about hadrian s villa

Hadrian s Villa, or Villa Adriana, is perhaps the best-preserved Roman villa complex in the world. Built in the early 2nd century, the villa was the central hub of power in the Roman world for the latter years of Emperor Hadrian s reign.

Hadrian s Villa covers almost 250 acres and consists of over 30 buildings and a number of other points of interest. It includes a large colonnaded swimming pool, libraries, the Palestra and the famous Maritime Theatre. Most intriguing of all are the remains of the Emperor s small island retreat including his personal toilet which served as Hadrian s private escape from the stress of Imperial life.

Not the easiest site to access, and not among the most famous of Rome s attractions, Hadrian s Villa is nevertheless a startling tribute to the power of the Roman Empire and the magnificence that could be brought to bear by its leaders.

Be warned, to fully explore Hadrian s Villa will take you at least three hours and can be quite physically strenuous in the summer heat, so make sure you take plenty to drink.

Magnificent journey into the distant past. For those who love archeology it is definitely a place to visit. In contemplating the remains of Hadrian's ancient villa, she was filled with a feeling of curiosity and admiration. I thank those who have compiled the rules to be able to enter with their dog.

Beautiful historic site, fairly well cared for (considering it's not private). To get lost in the remains imagining that you are Emperor Hadrian , the visit takes at least 3 hours to be able to see everything with an audio guide.

the place is great. Not so easy to get information how to get there by the public transport though. We took train from Roma to Tivoli (approx. 2.6EUR one way), however the villa is approx. 5-6km away fromt the train station, and you need to take bus (nr4). Bus tickets can be bought in the magazines kiosks around the town (there is one right by the train station's exit), costs 1EUR one way.

without this information it is a bit difficult to get there without a car, as you can not really walk along the road. Buses depart 1-2 times an hr (I failed to understand the schedule, but it seems like it goes every 40-50 min).

A very large archaeological area. He does not go crazy but worth a visit. A lot of building remains. Attention. There are no toilet seats in the public toilet in the villa. For 10 euros it's worth it. Access from the center by bus number 4. They drive often 15-20min.

One of the most beautiful terraces on Rome I've ever seen! Then if you have the chance to go at sunset, I promise you will take your breath away from the splendor! The villa and the surrounding park are absolutely splendid and kept with enviable care: you can see that the management of this place is based on love and dedication. One note for improvement: the descriptive signs are very technical from an architectural point of view and little from a historical point of view. Therefore, I advise non-experts to have a guide who will introduce them to the history of this wonderful place. I highly recommend.
