Many disqualifying factors, and seemingly
incompetency to work with through processing. Sent required paperwork several times, but kept requesting the same paperwork and off the bat the intake seemed to not really want to help.

When I arrived at VVSD,I was stubborn, angry, broken, immature,in denial and lost. I lost part of my family ,because of my mental illness and my alcoholism.I charged with the help of the caring and loving staff. I found a new family at VVSD and a new life. Now, because of VVSD, I have dedicated my life in helping others in this journey of life..

I'm now a CBHT/CPSS and soon to be a CVRS and I have completed my first semester at Rio Salad Collage, where I taking Online Courses in Addiction Studies at My GPA was a 3.75, not too bad for not being in college for 32 Years.Fall 2019,I will become a LASAC in AZ.I have worked in Addiction/Mental Health since 2010 and at 3 Treatment Center where it cost $30,000 a month and they don't even compare to VVSD. VVSD is the BEST Treatment Center by far!!! Do you want to know why?The Staff at VVSD inspires, challenges ,cares and believes in the Residents. The Staff has real life experiences not like the staff at treatment centers where I worked, they learned everything from books.Sorry, I missed Stand Down, but I got my 7th Kidney Stone Thursday @0300Hrs. Happy 4th and Remember "There's Always Hope even in the Darkest Moments."
RIP Jim St John my Dear Friend. I was a Resident at VVSD 9 Sept 15 --27 Mar 17

VVSD helps many veterans, myself included, by giving them a support system to build off of. I've attended a few meetings and this is a great place to meet up with brothers and sisters who have served.

Great place to go to change your life for the better if that is truly what you want. A place willing to help you with a knowledgeable friendly staff, now open for non vets seeking help for addictions, but also has connections to help with PTSD, housing options, metal wellness.

This organization did not help me while I was pregnant.

I had been in contact with them for a month, they took a long time. It seams all they did was collect more data on me in order to collect funds for their organization.

The counselors were judgemental and cold. No diversity.

Extremely disappointed.

This organization completely scammed me.

This organization completely scammed me.

Last October, I agreed to host one of their candidates in my home. In my naivety, I trusted the transaction would be legit as I was hosting a veteran and most importantly, a candidate of an organization which receives money from the United States government. I was also lured because they assured me I would have the support of the organization and they even offered other incentives extra rent money, etc. I thought this was a legit organization I could trust. I could not be more wrong.

The tenant then turned his contempt on my housemate. He deliberately left disgusting messes and took food that wasn t his. When my housemate and I confronted him, he feigned ignorance. When we found undeniable proof he did such things, he just laughed. When my efforts to work out these problems with the tenant failed, I sought out support from the organization. The caseworker remained out of contact, so I tried other people in the organization. They told me I only could work with the caseworker. I still had not received rent after a month.

I became fearful and tried to get some assurance that I was in fact dealing with a legit organization despite all evidence to the contrary. When I tried to find some resource within the organization for support in this situation, I was met again with the same unhelpfulness and contemptuous tone. They hung up on me several times, they refused to give information and when I tried to explain the situation and my fear, they did not care. When my boss offered to help me she noticed I was under a lot of stress they did not contact her until after almost three months.

The tenant reduced his brazenly awful behavior. I think he realized the pain this was causing me. This along with the caseworker s apology gave me hope that I could get the rent money, part with the tenant, and move on from this awful chapter. But, the caseworker again became impossible to reach. Only after another week did he reveal in a short email that I would not in fact receive rent money because the tenant had conveniently been dismissed from the program.

Thus, I hope in sharing my experience I can prevent other households from being scammed like I was. A lot of people within the organization visited my house for showings, so beware.

Obviously, I cannot recommend this organization. I d sooner suggest you burn your house down before interacting with them.

l Just do not enjoy sharing a room with convicts and those who don't clean behind themselves. Not easy but I have no choice.
Staff can be lazy and rude at times when you complain or go to them for help with unruly roommates yet will evict you if you get into a fight or violate their rules. Try to get on your feet quickly because Kim and Andre are evil. Beware of monitor also. They also pick favorites and let them stay longer than the lease allows.

As an outsider I can't really give a good review except for the people at the front desk. They are very professional and I appreciate that and I feel comfortable there. Upon personal observation it looks as if all the patients that are in treatment are doing well as they have acclimated to the program structure. As someone who helps seek out a treatment program 4 certain individuals this program was a good fit for them. And from my observation the participants seem to be improving and doing very well during treatment. This program not only treats addiction behaviors they also provide housing assistance and financial assistance and many other things that a lot of programs wouldn't cover that can assist someone who is recovering to begin a normal healthy life again. And again most important for someone who is visiting and having the ability to feel comfortable and feel at ease is a big plus and and the front desk has accomplished that task very well and I thank them for their kindness and their professionalism and their candidness.

This is an amazing place to help our veterans get their feet back under them and get the help to move their life forward. Getting members off the streets and in line with their new life needs. The new adventure and skills that folks learn make them productive members.

The commenter below is right. VVSD is suppose to be 100% free from religious proselytizing, but VVSD mandates Jesus and Higher Power religions on the veterans. I've met a lot of homeless veterans still on the streets who have BEEN THERE, DONE THAT at VVSD's religious indoctrination center.

About Veterans Village of San Diego

Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) is a non-profit organization that has been serving veterans since 1981. The organization is dedicated to the mission of “Leave No One Behind” and has been providing services and support to our nation’s heroes for over forty years.

VVSD offers a wide range of programs and services to help veterans transition back into civilian life. These programs include housing assistance, employment training, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and more. The organization also provides legal assistance, financial counseling, and other support services to help veterans overcome the challenges they face after leaving the military.

One of VVSD’s most important programs is its housing assistance program. The organization operates several transitional housing facilities throughout San Diego County that provide safe and supportive environments for homeless veterans. These facilities offer a range of services including case management, job training, education assistance, and more.

In addition to its housing program, VVSD also offers employment training through its Veterans Employment-Related Assistance Program (VEAP). This program helps veterans develop job skills and find employment opportunities in their chosen fields. VEAP provides career counseling, resume writing workshops, interview preparation classes, job fairs, and other resources to help veterans succeed in the workforce.

Another important aspect of VVSD’s work is its mental health counseling program. Many veterans struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression or anxiety after returning from combat zones or experiencing traumatic events during their service time. VVSD provides individual therapy sessions as well as group therapy sessions where vets can share their experiences with others who have gone through similar situations.

Substance abuse treatment is another critical area where VVSD excels at helping vets overcome addiction issues related to alcohol or drugs use disorders such as opioid addiction or methamphetamine addiction which are common among many returning soldiers who have experienced trauma during deployment overseas.

Overall,Veterans Village of San Diego has become an essential resource for our nation's heroes seeking support after serving our country in times of war or peacekeeping missions abroad.VVDS's commitment towards "Leave No One Behind" mission ensures that every veteran receives the care they need regardless if they are homeless or struggling with PTSD,Veterans Village Of San Diego will always be there for them offering hope, care, and compassion when it matters most!
