First, that's not a good picture, it's the parking garage! But anyways, I have had a number of procedures done here including heart stents. I would recommend this hospital for all vets looking for quality care.

Care was excellent. The accounting or billing department has not filed claims for my father's admission of October of last year. Now my mother is getting bills from this VAMC with interest added on every month. I sincerely hope someone will read this and fix this oversight.

One of the best VA out there. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They are always updating the facility to provide to the veteran and their families. Couldn't ask for a better place.

Visiting a family member, the facility is very clean and IMHO nicer than other regional hospitals. Staff is very attentive and personable and took excellent care of my family member. With the negative spotlight nowadays on the VA Healthcare system, this is clearly one of their top facilities and being a veteran I am glad and honored that this fine facility is available locally for Pittsburgh Vets!

My wife visited neurology, and found the head neurologist not interested in prior findings and did not look at her medical records completely. Accordingly, she missed the stenosis points in her vertebral column, and proceeded to assume other causes with just a brief cursoral review of medical records. She prescribed inappropriate medication. She also came to inappropriate conclusions.

We will not be returning to this facility. Others may rate the place higher, but we find it quite large and quite impersonal. We will stick with Clarksburg West Virginia.

I have been going to the new facility for over two years. Not only is it a new facility but new positive attitudes. I am retired Army and have been to active duty health care facilities. Pittsburgh's VA Facility is one of the best. Their employees, many of them Vets themselves make the difference. There a few with bad attitudes but they are far and few between

Great facility. Doctors are like anywhere else, most are good/great yet some make you question how they made it through med school. Im not a big fan of having the place crowded with older vets just hanging out and taking up parking in the garage, maybe put a vfw club in the back or something so the main entrances are clear for those who go to the hospital for medical reasons not social reasons. Overall very pleased.

My experience here is strictly based on professionalism, as I am an outsourced independent contractor delivery personnel. The people I deal with on a day to day basis are delightful and handle their departments professionally. I haven't had much difficulty in doing my job or getting assistance with various issues that may arise while working at this facility. All in all my experience here has been quite well.

I don't like anything about this VA. It is the worst VA hospital I have been to. I came from another VA to this one. They either can't get my meds right or they claim the VA has never carried them or they haven't seen them prescribed in 20 years. When I have been receiving my medications from the VA for 6 years. Once they find out you take narcotic medication they get on the phone for most of your appointment accusing yout of being a drug addict. Not answering any of your other concerns or issues. They also act like they are reading from a script. Not caring about the veteran just their own asses. They say the are the best in the country but I have yet to see it!

I went to the Pittsburgh VA for a physical and to quit smoking with Chantix. Everything seemed fine (except for the first time they had trouble drawing blood). However, after a few weeks I still didn't have my prescription. My wife had her prescription thru a civilian doctor weeks ago. I made several calls, and thru a social worker found out the provider put the request in wrong. This went on for about four months. Finally, I got the prescription. I took the pill, quit smoking, and as I was almost finished with the 30 day supply, no refill. I called, and again the scrip was put in wrong. This time I talked to a nurse (I think) and they said they'd get it fixed. He was very rude and wanted me to set up a follow-up appointment. At this point, I wouldn't trust the VA to fix a scraped knee. Two weeks later, I'm out of Chantix and still no refill. Imagine if this was blood pressure meds or something serious--I'd be dead.

The one bright spot was Sarah, the OIF social worker. She is the only reason I gave them an extra star. She worked tirelessly to cut through the red tape, and is the only reason I got the prescription in the first place. They need more people like her.

Bottom line, the Pittsburgh VA seems to be run more like a dysfunctional military personnel center than a hospital. Perhaps if they were run like a hospital with less red tape they would regain the trust of veterans.

My husband was admitted after suffering terrible patient neglectful and abuse at Jefferson hospital. The staff quickly got my husband's pain reduced and immediately started looking for the problem. Thank you for treating my husband the way ALL veterans deserve to be treated. Thank you for catching the life threatening illness that the civilian hospital said was just a bruise. They treated both of us with respect and did not rest until they had gotten to the root problem. Wonderful people who are kind and dedicated to their professions.

Your hiring system sucks. Hired two months ago and I keep getting told every week I need to do more paperwork and it takes you a week or two to send it . This is how you lose people . Your departments need to get with it

First, The Volunteers- Very friendly, help-minded ...

First, The Volunteers- Very friendly, help-minded individuals. The Nurses - Never a problem with the nurses, thorough, helpful, and caring. The Doctors - As you would suspect, there are some problems. I ve been through 7 PC s. 3 were moved to other Depts (I was happy with those 3). This is a frequent occurrence with VA. The good ones get moved. Now the other 4. I requested changes on these four for various reasons. One was just going through the motions, he really didn t care, not a Dr that one could talk to. Two seemed very helpful and caring about the Vets, but were very hard to understand. 1 left VA for greener pastures. 1 would not pay attention to what I was saying, sent me to a specialist for my blood. He told me what I needed to do and said I should have blood work every 3 months. My PC did not do that. I was kept on every 6 months for blood work. She said she couldn t find anything that stated every 3 months. Here s a thought, talk to the other Dr. They seem to be more interested in typing information into the computer than listening to patients. Now will be seeing my 8 th PC. This one will be a PA or whatever VA calls them.
Behavior Health: Good, bad, and the ugly. First off, the 2 best Psychologists I ve had were fresh out of college. One was an intern, the other had been an intern, then was certified. She was the last one I had. She really cared about Veterans with psychological problems. She brought me back from a cold, dark, world. She saved me. Now, however, I will be moving on to a different Psychologist because she has moved on to a private practice. The others I ve had were definitely unacceptable. Burn outs, that no longer cared. I think that s what happens when they keep hearing patient after patient talk about their problems. They burn out. That being said, Psychologists outside of VA are good, bad, and terrible also. When I tried to change for my first Psychologist, the snotty clerk in Behavior Health said, you can t do that. What? A patient has every right to request a change of Doctors. Went through the Patient Advocate and took care of that.
Which brings me to the Patient Advocate. There are 2 people in the office. I was working with one of them when I was having the PC problems, she was helping me decide what PC I would like to try. She said call me back in 3 days and I will have the ones that have openings and I could choose which I wanted. I gave it 4 days, called back and she was out of the office that day. When I told the other one what I was calling about, changing PC s, she says We don t do that . Huh? I happened to hav3 another appointment at Oakland campus the following day. When the door is closed, there is a patient in there discussing their problem. Don t knock or open the door. When I got to the PA office, the door was not closed, I poked my head in to say something, and the same one that told me they didn t help with changing PC s, said, can t you see I m on the phone! What s wrong with you? What s wrong with me? You are the worthless that left the door open. Both of these experiences were reported. Guess who is still a PA? PA s should be Veteran held positions. Who better understands Veteran s concerns than a Veteran? This goes for most of clinics and primary care clinics. Stop hiring locals that are only there for the money and benefits, they don t care what they do. Certainly don t care about doing their jobs. At times there are 3 receptionists sitting there, none talking to patients, because it s one Veteran at a time at the counter for privacy laws. Three of them sitting there. One doing her nails, one texting on her cell phone, one is on the phone. A couple times there have been 3 or 4 just yakking away. None of them even pay attention to you standing there like you were a statue. Yes, this VA has some deep rooted problems. Some are easily fixable with awareness. Being aware of the jobs people are doing. Hold people accountable, be dedicated to the Veterans they are trusted to treat. Hire Veterans for non-medical positions.

I spent 7 days in the facility for the implant of a dorsal spine stimulator in Feb 2015. I went back in July 2015 for surgery on my right hand, and will return at the end of Jan 2016, for surgery on my other hand. The staff and doctors are excellent, par none. I live 215 miles away in WV, so I take a shuttle. They made sure that I made it okay to the shuttle and when my surgery in July went later than usual, they made sure I made it completely home. Everyone at the facility does their best under overcrowded circumstances, to care for us. This is a first rate facility.

I have accompanied my father to all of his appointments over the last few months and every single time, we are told conflicting information. We consistently get sent to the wrong floor only to be told I don t know why they sent you here or I don t know why they transferred your call to this department. A prior emergency room visit due to a heart problem took 10 hours to be offered a room in the emergency room! He is having back surgery this morning and did not receive any information about the time of surgery the day before, as we were told he would. I had to call at 9 pm after still not hearing anything about what time to arrive. The operator told us to arrive at 6 for a 7 am surgery. The surgery is not until 930 and we did not need to arrive until 730. We live 2 hours away. It is unreal how unorganized this government agency is. I am grateful for the healthcare the VA offers my father, but something needs to be done about the lack of communication to patients. This is not good service to our vets. VERY disappointing.

Getting anything taken care of and getting pittsburgh and erie va hospitals to communicate is nearly impossible but once in their your ok. I called today may 15th 2019 at 12:31pm with an issue and was told scheduling would call back and nothing. I call a few hours later and the nurse barely speaks english and theirs no record of my call. DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THEYLL EVER CALL BACK. bug the heck out of them till somethings scheduled.

my name is dave good i am not a vet but took a vet there for an apt. we should be ashamed of the conditions our vets have to put up with first it took me 1.25 hrs to park once inside garage. too many cars not enough spaces . next once inside its like walmart on black friday too many vets not enough staff or even space for them all to sit. then there is the bathroom it stunk there was human waste on toilet seats. there are no touch free flush mechanisms on toilets or urinals but the cafeteria had auto opening garbage cans stalls were too small for wheelchair bound vets they had to leave chairs stall doorway but they have pretty decorations around its time to get priorities straight and take of those that have fought and died for our freedom

Worst VA came down from Erie for MRI told me to be here 1 hour early to take meds then when I get here say they are short nurses and I won't receive my meds before the procedure. So I wait HOURS with no word from anyone in a tiny room with no windows and a bunch of people. This VA is horrible compared to Erie.

When I first started using this VA it was fantastic. However, I needed to switch providers because of my schedule, but it seems the Women s health care providers only work until 3. They do not even have an opening past 1pm for 2 months. When I initially asked for a switch they had me in quickly for a 3pm appointment... but apparently she was a males only provider so I again had to find someone else. To me I believe they cater more to male vets. Why can t female vets have later appointment times?
