Having participated in a couple clinical trials at the UWSOM at the UWMC, I can attest for the professionalism and expediency of the employees there. From the clinicians to the study coordinators and reception, everyone is diligent and respectful. As a public entity, the institution finds a great balance between serving the public and improving our health while consistently delivering high quality academic advancements from many of the clinical trials that happen at the UW.

Been trying to get sterilization surgery since I was 16, homeless in Portland. OHSU, Providence, Kaiser, and private clinics said no. UW said yes on my first visit without me begging or making me feel like I was on trial. I got to my appointment in Female Wellness and asked for a tubal and the lady said "okay." I thought she was prompting me to provide more info, but she was granting me the procedure. I never felt shamed about enjoying sex or my dislike for children at all, and in fact was encouraged to maintain healthy habits. The doctor asked me questions and got my medical records and got my insurance to cover that visit, the pre-op, the procedure, and the post-op.
Thank you, Dr. Unger. Thank you thank you thank you so very much.

Since so many people have been reading this review...

Since so many people have been reading this review I feel like I owe an update.

We've continued to visit the Alvord Brain Tumor Center and our visits have been consistent with what we experienced before. Our doctors continue to be great, but there is a huge communication issue.

There are minor issues like waiting for a very long time to get through the call system, or your messages not getting returned.

The big issue that we struggle with is that prescriptions often don't make it to the Pharmacy (we've experienced a roughly 40% failure rate). To make matters worse, the prescriptions they mess up are anti-seizure medications which need to be taken twice daily and missing a dose or two causes seizures, a trip to the ER and months of recovery time.

Our doctor already hand delivers prescriptions to the desk since so many have been lost and they still continue to make mistakes.

My overall experience with the hospital has been fine but the Alvord Brain Tumor Center is awful. The front desk changed the appointments of several patients the day before we were scheduled and didn't call out to let people know the times had changed. This caused chaos for a whole day of appointments. The waiting room was packed with people waiting hours due to scheduling mistakes and employees at the front desk were giggling and snickering talking about their personal lives. To top it all off we heard one of the employees working the front desk say, "I hate this place" and "I just want to get out of here." I feel like an office like where people are dealing with difficult issues should be staffed by people who want to be there and can behave like professionals.

If you work with the hospital feel free to contact me.

Know that if you go to the Univ. of Washington and see a physician there - they are contractors. You will likely receive at least a $250 bill from the physician and then a separate $250 bill from the facility itself. Racket!

Took my son to be checked out when he was sick. We spent less than10 minutes with the Physicians Assistant and we were charged $362.50. We don't have insurance and they do not provide any indication of the costs up front. We were charged a $200 deposit and billed the $162.50 balance a week later. I don't believe this is a fair way to do business or a just fee for a 10 minute visit.

David from the front security office was amazing! My mother was being discharged and the roads were shut down for construction. He went out of his way to make sure we were able to make it back to our hotel safely. Definitely one of the nicest people we have met in WA. Thank you David!

I called Judith C. Hagedorn M.D., M.H.S. for medical treatment. However, I have a reservation for another doctor. So I canceled the doctor's reservation. And I called again to make an appointment with the doctor I wanted. But the receptionist put my phone back on hold. And they don't answer the phone for a long time.

Their billing is always wrong and they won't take responsibility to fix it but blame on patient. I have receptionist threatened me and than same thing happened again later on. It seems like no one knows what to do their job here. Won't recommend to go here!

If I could give them zero stars I would. My first ever visit to UW Medicine Urgent Care was just horrible. The doctor gave me information that I could have easily obtained on Google. It was a complete waste of time. They also misspelled my name even though I gave them a government issue ID. I will never go to another UW Medicine facility again. I will never recommend anyone to go to them.
