Called to ask for information about collecting a representative sample for asbestos testing a new house I just purchased (first home, yay!). The inspector I was transferred to refused to get me any information because I was in the process of moving in and hadn't been living there (a potentially hazardous environment) for some arbitrary period he wouldn't define. I explained that I have it listed as my permanent, primary residence from a legal perspective, but he didn't think that was good enough and felt I should have a lawyer verify. So he refused to tell me about taking a sample because "it would be enabling you".

Frustrating experience for someone who's trying to do the right thing, and be environmentally conscious and safe.

While the "forecast" may end up missing the mark due to shifting winds, new wildland fires, etc., the forecast is usually accurate anyway. Also, the real time rating of air quality is exact and very helpful. During this fire season I've used it each morning to determine whether to bike or drive to work.

Good organization but a upper South Hill area monitoring station is needed. All this Summer smoke that is now our norm can vary considerably around different parts of the city. Air quality indexes could be improved with a south station thrown into the mix.
