Good museum but not what I was expecting from the other museums around. It was mainly videos and audio. I was hoping there was going to be more artifacts. The most moving part was probably the shoes that were on display.

I feel weird giving this place five stars... They do a very good job presenting the information, but it's a very sad experience. The day I went the people that were there were very disrespectful--loud, on their phones, bumping into and stepping on toes... I would recommend going during the day throughout the week...

This museum is very well done. It is very emotionally moving. Even a ride in the elevator had impact. Daniel's Story is an excellent presentation that is easy for children to interact and understand the series of events. It leaves a lasting impression. I highly recommend.

The USHMM is a very well curated museum. While it gets depressing, it does end on a hopeful (less depressing) note. The museum is set up in a very easy to get through and see everything way, and will be appropriate for younger people provided they can maintain a respectful volume.

The content of the museum is great. This review is for the staff. They were rude, and even insulting to visitors. Of all of the museums and exhibits we have visited, this was definitely the worst experience. We were made to feel unwelcome.

This museum was definitely a hard one to go through but it was also completely worth it. It does a great job of explaining the events and tragidies that occured during the holocaust. Be prepared as it is moving but I highly reccomend this museum

The museum is a must see for all Americans! You will gain an understanding of what happens when you ignore hatred and hostility towards a group of people because it doesn't apply to you ! You can clearly see how what happened then in its early stages is similar to some of the things that are happening now here and all over the world to others who are not deemed to be human beings of worth!

Before visiting here, I thought the Holocaust would have nothing to with my country and myself because I just thought it is the Holocaust happened in Germany which is far away from me in distance-wise. However, the museum told me this is global and whole world is involved with this Holocaust. I was so sad and depressed because Holocaust is still going on somewhere in the world such as Syria. Why??? I was so impressed by this question. Humans beings are all equal regardless of ethinity, color, appearance, gender, and extras.... We are all EQUAL. Why did people hate Jews and how could they kill 600 million Jews......... How could they do that? The thing makes me more sad is that there are still discriminations in terms of Race, Gender, Social status, and so on..... in the world. Why do we hate each other? Why can t we love each other regardless of them? Is it a nature of Human being to have hatred? Those kinds of questions keep ringing... I think this is the power of the museum. When you come to DC, NEVER miss this museum.

Should you go? Definitely yes. There are several artifacts and models showcasing the horrors of the holocaust. However, I think that the museum could do so much more to exemplify the events during the holocaust. For example, when I came out of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, I left with all sorts of feelings against war and nuclear weapons. I was truly horrified. I've had a similar effect with the slavery part of at the African American history museum. I didn't feel like that in the Holocaust museum, the area of the concentration camps only dealt with beatings, gassing and creation which is awful in itself but I felt there was so much left unsaid. There was only small mention of experiments on twin kids, or other forms of torture, and I also felt there were little testimonials, at least to what I expected. This museum should be impactful, but I've had better exemplifications of the holocaust through "The Pianist", "Schindler's List", "The boy in the striped pijamas", and countless documentaries, "Auschwitz: The Nazis and the final solution" being one of the best.

Amazing collection of knowledge and more. This is a must visit if ever in DC. You can easily spend a whole day here if you want to see everything. They have new exhibits and speakers all the time.

A museum where from the title and clearly visible what is spoken but under the eye of the Americans who have been there ...... I recommend the visit in the morning because in closing time the visit is interrupted and they send you away.

Taught me something for sure. But the building is the most confusing thing ever. Seriously i couldnt follow the tour in order. Also a lot of artifacts are missing. There are drinking fountains, but the food is way overpriced.

Anyone who visits DC needs to make sure to put this museum on their itinerary. If you plan on getting the timed passes for the permanent exhibition, I d recommend giving yourself at least 2 hours to go through the whole exhibit. It s a self guided tour that takes your through the timeline of the holocaust from beginning to end. It spans several rooms across different floors. It looks small initially until you get passed the first bridge. It was such a moving experience, highly recommend. There are other exhibits in the museum that don t require the times passes that I ll have to check out next time!

Words cannot describe this experience. Please visit and see for yourself. I recommend forcing yourself to look at the more disturbing content. It's painful and we should never forget these atrocities.

Very good museum with a lot of documentation and photographs. I liked that they make you take an elevator to begin the tour and that certain very graphical videos were inside a box, so that if you go with young children and you don't want them to see them, they are easy to avoid. Good cafeteria on the outside of the museum, the only downside is that you have to go through security again before entering the cafeteria and again when you want to re-enter the museum. We spent about 1.5 hours

The intention is for you to feel as though you were living in those horrible times.
This was accomplished, very eerie and sad. Elevator doors set the scenes realistically. Will not return. However, its worth the trip.

The information and presentation was very well done. Unfortunately the challenge of sharing with as many of us as possible meant it was so crowded that the noise level in the entrance area was deafening. On the upper floors the number of patrons made access to the displays difficult.
Clearly those who are managing the museum are trying to balance available space with interest from the public.
This museum is worth the effort but requires patience.

I can only describe this museum as haunting. At one point you will walk though a room filled with the shoes of the victims... the stench of leather and the sheer number of shoes in this room is remarkably impactful.

It's a must go place in DC if you are a history lover, specially if you are interested in WWII. It would take at least half a day, or more if you decide to give a serious attention. Lot of photographs and rare video and audio clips. The interior is very cold, might need a light jacket.

Great museum with very thought provoking displays. However, it is hard to see it all and read all the signs in two hours (the permanent collection). Things are packed close together, so, you barely move. Very overwhelming because you want to read everything but with all the people and time constraints you just keep moving.

Side note: be considerate of those around you and don't get right on the glass. Leave room for others to view it as well.

The Holocaust Museum has changed so much since I visited it as a kid. It seems like it's been toned down a bit, which is unfortunate, since the impact is really the point.
The information that can be viewed at each of the exhibits is interesting and really provides the reader with a broad understanding of what was going on in Europe that led to the Holocaust, and also addresses the concentration camps with grace.

A temporary exhibit, Daniel's Story, makes the Holocaust accessible to kids and adults alike.

10.0+ Go if you are in the District. Interactive for kids. If you don't cry at some point you aren't human. But you should leave with an enormous amount of pride in America and what we stand for
