One of the most moving museums I've had the opportunity to explore. The information, architecture, and displays invite contemplation and deep reflection. I would recommend getting timed ticket entrances for smaller groups or individuals wanting to visit. I always take a large school group so we do the group visitation plan. I would also recommend taking High School age students and above. I have seen some middle school students go through and process some of what they see, but I would say that the content and complexity of the concepts require maturity and thought to process. With that being said, there is an exibit on the ground floor designed for younger viewers called Daniel's Story. While it's designed for younger audiences I still recommend all folks to view that.
We should have more places like this to remember ... and to remind ...
The most emotional experience I have ever had. Incredible.
Very graphic. Informative. I do not recommend bringing children under 16 to this museum. It was very crowded when I went. Walking around I saw a few women crying while looking at one of the exhibits. It was a very sad thing to see. It definitely is a great museum.
Very informative but some of the displays will leave your heart in your throat
This is an awesome yet moving experience. The facility is designed as a self guided tour that starts on 3rd floor.
The pictures and the audios can be quite disturbing however as a compassionate gesture at the end of and part of the exhibit is a hall for those who need time to reflect, digest or just come to terms with what they have just experienced.
Awesome experience! Worth the time!
Make sure you allow yourself lots of time. They close at 5:30 and start shutting down at 5:15
Moving no words other than we must not forget . Continue to expose tyrants both here and across the world. Hatred, violence and segregation must end. There should be no reason to create another memorial or wall to express sorrow at past deeds
You will see things and learn more here than any school history book will ever teach you about the Holocaust.
Absolutely harrowing and memorable. I have been to concentration camps in Germany and watched dozens of documentaries, but the exhibits shook me to the core. I actually saw a tourist crying.
Spare yourself >2.5hours and an open mind. Slowly make your way through the museum; it's a sad, experiential walk.
Must see for all. Hard to believe the atrocities of mankind. Draining! Prepare to be moved.
This is a must see Museum!
Very educational, humbling and emotional experience. Plan at least a few hours to get through this.
It's well worth the visit, and It's also free.
Sad but eye opening experience. Please respect the museum and do not take inappropriate pictures.
Amazing and haunting place to be. Fulfills its mission in making you reflect on the event. So much information that it takes hours to truly read and understand everything. Very effective.
Please allow at least two hours for a visit to the museum. The exhibition is very good. In addition to a lot of pictures in the form of photos and videos, there are good explanations, 1: 1 replicas / models and interactive activities. Admission is free.
An amazing place that everyone should experience. My family and I were humbled by the stories we heard and the things we saw
A chilling unreal reality faced in the times of hardship that is genocide. This museum takes you right back to the harsh reality that occurred during the holocaust times. I definitely recommend coming here. The story behind these innocent people are compelling. I came here to pay my respects and to educate myself further more. Though it was very sad I can say I learned a lot and received a very in-depth look on this portion of history. Staff were very helpful with question and the place was very clean. Go check it out!
An extremely powerful and moving museum. Would recommend for anyone.
A note: perhaps wait until you kids are in high school to take them here, both in order to preserve such an impactful experience for someday that they are old enough to handle it, and also so that they do not disrupt any of the other visitors.
need to know some histories to understand the settings in the museum. Very nice place. many students come to visit and learn.
This place is unbelievably haunting, yet so very poignant. My non-Jewish son (of 14) lit a candle and said a prayer for all those who perished. I feel like that says something about this museum's impact on people. Keep educating! #neveragain
Warning: there's some very graphic and sad content and imagery here. So much information here, I thought I knew a lot about the Holocaust already but I learned so much. Very well setup.
A most to visit.
A 4 floor museum. Starting from 4 th floor going down.
Very detailed.
1000 s of films!
But need to prepare enough time for this visit. U would say a full day.
I would definitely visit again.
Crazy feeling when you walk ik to this place. Nice clean place, people are nice.awesome that they are showing what happend during that horible time.
It didn't show me what I was looking for but it us pretty cool
This place is amazing. It is a wonderful memorial to those who died in the Holocaust. The setup works well for presenting the history and the whole museum was created with great deliberation.
Be sure to give yourself enough time to see this memorial well. The videos at the end are beautiful and take about an hour by itself.
Such a moving experience. Chronologically organized to express well and lesser known events that led up to the Holocaust. Was also inclusive of other victims, the Roma and LGBTQ people.
This museum is a must see while visiting DC. It is incredibly sad, but important to see and learn about the history of the Holocaust.
Beautiful, emotionally charged museum. Graphic content is blocked from view of small children. Plan lots of time to see it all.
Very moving experience. Well organized and tastefully portrays a horrible time in history which the world should never forget. A must see if you are in DC.
Very mind opening. Very very sad. At the end of the tour you read Davids story and it almost made me cry when you actually get to walk through it.
Everyone should visit it's an amazing memorial so we'll designed. I will never forget Daniel.
Please visit you get the tickets at the center information desk for free. However, you do need to ask for it because it gives you the time to go in due to the amount of visitors there. My 13 year old daughter and I only waited 15 minutes but there are amazing things like Daniel' story to do while you wait.
If you can please go, we will "never forget"
I have been a few times. It is a few floors and it covers the entire Holocaust History in Europe. So there is a lot to see and read. This is a special, sacred place. I highly recommend a visit.
Very emotional. It gives a more indent view of the holocaust.
Deeply impactful museum; informative and memorable.
Moving experience. Clean. Welcoming staff. Line up at 9 am for same day tickets or reserve online in advance for $1 each ticket.
I think all people should visit here because we shouldn't forget the brutality and tragedy.
This is a very touching a real experience. We mustn't forget the tragedies that have become a part of human history. Check this place out book the tour tickets in advance. Worth it!
Best Museum in DC!. A lot of information. Very Emotional.
Worth a trip. Do everyone a favor and don't bring the kids. Such grave content that kids don't understand and don't know how to act. The exhibit is eye opening and should be seen by all.
They show the dark history of world War 2 very well. The tour guide in the elevators does an amazing job in setting the scene
The museum was very well done and it was heartbreaking to see how the people were treated. I learned even more from the film where the survivors tell their personal stories. There were too many people in the museum as traffic didn t flow well. Tours also limited the flow.
Hauntingly relevant. A sobering reminder of the value of life and the hope to not give up.
Such a sobering reminder of where we must never again allow ourselves to return as a society.
An emotionally wrenching museum that everyone should visit so that no one forgets that hate and bigotry led to the deaths of millions of innocent people. A warning of what nationalism can lead to.
This is an amazing memorial. It made me and my friends cry it was so intense. We had just learned about this by reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel so we had background knowledge. If you don't, do not go. You will be so confused. Also don't bring little children here they could be easy scared. It is a lovely tribute to the lives that were lost and takes through a time line of what really happened.
This is an excellent museum full of holocaust history. It's very impactful. It sends a strong message, however is good for youth and adults.
A place of memories. Respect it and observe it thoroughly.
Very insightful of the hole events leading up to, during and before.
Very humbling and moving experience. We got tickets for the permanent exhibit, but it was almost too much information to process while trying to keep moving in the line. The Daniel's Story exhibit (part of the free admission) was the best part, especially since our kids ages 12 and 8 were with us. It takes you through the life of a Jewish child from pre invasion through his life. Very interesting and also emotional.
It is very depressing and serious. The amount of information they give and the kind of information is unbelievable. If you are a person who doesn't like gore i wouldn't suggest it.
Very good documentation, neat clean and excellent service
Very disappointed in this. I've been to many museums and this did not do justice to the Holocaust. Although it was free, the exhibits were small and it literally took us 10 minutes to get through it (and it's a LARGE building). There are more bathrooms than exhibits. And the staff were not pleasant. Note: we did not get tix to the special exhibit.
Very impressive and informative. At the entrance you receive a booklet with a picture of a Holocaust survivor, and there will be written a bit about its history.
I recommend a guide to better understand the museum
An experience that will indulge you in history. Take your time, take all aspects of this place in.
Very disturbing and informative the kids were blown away
Very sad and sobering.
I felt bad about looking at it but it's very informative and hard to see but it's history.
