Usher Hall Review

Fantastic concert hall, in a historical building. Acoustic is very nice and performances are always of the best quality. Highly recommend.

Parking is a bit of an issue. Easy to see stage though.

Reasonable access for wheelchair users, though people with sensory disabilities are not as well catered for. They have a wide range of events and prices are reasonable.

Great staff. Main auditorium is beautiful. Great night all round.

I witnessed Joan Baez's farewell tour in March 2018 in this fantastic concert hall. It was a beautiful concert evening. Thanks also to the extremely friendly staff of Usher Hall .

Good seats good provisions seats a l8ttle narrow and I'm not big and security a bit heavy handed in the way they talk to you at the door otherwise good!

Elbow concert, upper circle rhs , could only see half the stage and the sound was muffled. Very expensive for drinks

I have watched a couple of concerts at the hall, I have also performed in two of the JGHS Christmas concerts. It is an exciting experience and is a wonderful venue, I would definitely recommend watching any sort of performance here.

Seating in upper sections is cramped, but a good concert venue.

Went to the Usher Hall for the very first time. Fantastic venue not just reserved for opera and plays. I was here for to see one of my favourite rock bands, Alter Bridge play here, and what a show they put on at this gorgeous venue

Great venue, feels close to the stage at the grand circle, great views chairs are low inn front so no obstructions, sound was amazing.

Great venue. Sing and play there for school concerts (really fun). And I ve also gone to see The Next Step (on CBBC) live here, it was great!!

Lots of room in front of seat, also seat comfortable. Staff nice.

Nice mid-size theatre venue. Good sound (was seeing Elbow). Slightly strange when stalls seats are removed for gigs as floor is still sloping but aids viewing for shorter people!

This is one of my favourite theatres in town.

Pros:
- Easy to get to from the city centre by foot and public transport. If driving, charged parking spaces are plenty to find nearby
- It is surrounded by loads of places to dine and so choosing a pre-theatre meal is not so easy with so many choices
- Its size is just right for a semi modern theatre and all seats offer a clear view of the stage (at the bottom). The theatre seats are reasonably sized, or for me, on the large side which is a contrast to older theatres and means you don't leave with a sore back side or legs.
- A wide range of performances are featured throughout the year including comedy, contemporary dance, and my favourite, plays (home grown and new talent).

- The bar makes for a lovely meeting room during office hours or business lunch.

Cons:
- Bar and cafe appear sparse in decor. Could be more cosy and lively in colour (use of space for exhibitions is a good start though this could be extended to the foyer upstairs which I've always thought is v bear and unwelcoming apart from the bright red light at the booking / reception desk)
- Access to lower level may not be easy for all especially with mobility requirements. And it can get very noisy and busy in the bar making it difficult to enjoy a drink and chat.
- Drinks and Food are available from the bar downstairs and nibbles and soft drinks from the cafe upstairs. Food choices are limited. Generally, best to try other dedicated eateries outside.

Overall,you really go to Usher Hall for the performances, as they are well worth it.

Wonderful building. Full of atmosphere. Good view of the stage even with a tall person sitting in front of me.

Have only been seated in stalls , great view of stage , comfortable seats and very pleasant , helpful staff , always happy to attend events at this venue .

Excellent concert. Shame that the Print at Home option didn't work for the tickets. Ended up having to collect the tickets from the box office. Seats were comfy and offered a good view of the stage.

New Year's Day concert with SCO. Excellent venue and quality performance.

Great venue. The standing area gets higher as you move away from the stage which means you can usually get a good view.

Come here for the Chinese New Year concert 2017, and it a great venue and staff were very helpful.

A classic and iconic Edinburgh public building -tbe perfect venue for a classical concert.

Fantastic from start to finish. Love actually is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine but to see the film and have the soundtrack played by a live orchestra was amazing. Would recommend going to see.

Excellent theatre ... comfy seats too with ample leg room! Bar prices steep but that's the norm at theatres, isn't it?

Stunning architecture of this building almost detracts from the performance. Great facilities and very helpful staff. Great place for a gig or show.

Excellent concert venue but the bars got very confused about whether an offer for rum applied to them or not!

Went to Bellshazar's Feast and were blown away by the huge Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Tickets were reasonable and the hall was historic. Highly recommend for a night out.
