It's rare that I say anything publicly about a bus...
It's rare that I say anything publicly about a business, particularly anything negative in a social media forum. In this case, I'm making an exception, because of such a repeatedly negative, indifferent customer service experience.
As posted on Yelp about Austin's Upper Crust Bakery:
My wife and i like the food, but I cannot stand the indifference of the management. I'm not a picky person at restaurants, but I expect businesses to listen to their customers and try to take reasonable steps to address their concerns. That has not been my experience, nor my wife's, with the management and staff of Upper Crust. They have been indifferent to a simple request. Consequently, they have turned me into something I can't say I've ever been about another business: a former customer who will go out of his way to tell everyone he knows why they should not do business here. Austin has plenty of good restaurants and bakeries. Do business with ones who listen to their customers, not Upper Crust.
Background. 18 Months ago I took my son in and bought him a chocolate chip cookie. Immediate allergic reaction. He is thankfully not one who goes into shock or has his airway close, but it's not a pleasant experience so we read labels and look at signs. There wasn't one and I didn't ask, which was my mistake. However, I didn't walk away. I went inside and asked whether the chocolate chip cookies have nuts. Yes, Walnuts. I asked why, when so many people like my son have nut allergies that are dangerous, don't you simply note that on your sign, because my son is having a reaction and that isn't a good way to encourage repeat business. Response: indifference.
My wife has continued to go there periodically and she has followed-up with the manager on this issue multiple times including again yesterday. After each request, no action, no commitment. Nothing. Apparently it's an overwhelming burden to put a nut label on a sign for baked goods or to just say that everything there might have nuts in it because of cross contamination in the kitchen, so buyer beware.
Again, Austin is fortunate to have many good restaurants and bakeries. Some may involve driving a extra mile or two away from 45th street. I'd ask that you patronize the ones that bother to take reasonable steps to address their customer's concerns rather than Upper Crust.
