It's TERRIBLE. IT'S ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I carry nothing but HATE for this "school". I had to leave after my first year. I paid $172 for a parking pass, and hardly EVER got to park in front of my own dorm. All those freaking "cheer parents" with their little kids would take up THE STUDENT'S spaces in front of OUR dorms, instead of using the designated parking infront of the gym they were using for their cheer practice. Speaking of dorms, they wont allow you to have simple string lights or coffee makers plugged up in you room (in Clark Hall) because the building still has aluminum wiring. But they'll let you have a big flat screen TV, microwave, and mini fridge. It made no sense to me. And you have to share one bathroom between 2 rooms. Depending on the number of people in each room, that could be 4 to 6 people to one shower.
I had a couple of professors just give up on me, even though I tried. With all the things I was going through in life outside of class, I still tried, and attempted to explain my situation but they never listened. Looking at you "art professor"!
On top of that, when you try to get to class, just avoid the fountains COMPLETELY. There is ALWAYS some OVERLY RELIGIOUS NUT yelling at the students, telling them that they're "going to hell" and "you're all sinners" and all that BS. They WANT to draw a crowd. They WANTED to turn the students against eachother. And they did.
Also, the "community" is SO DIVIDED. If you're not a part of their "club" they'll just shun you completely. Some will even get huffy when you ask about joining. On top of that, I wasted 2 hours just trying to finish my registration, BUT THE STAFF IS SO FREAKING CLUELESS. They gave me the run around in one buulding. "Go to this floor", "oh sorry, they were wrong its the other floor", "oh? They told you to come here? Thats weird. Go back to the floor you were just on. They should help you." Back and forth, back and forth. Even during orientation, they gave out false information to make themselves look better. "We always have this and that going on at this building". But when I started attending, the people that worked they were incredibly confused when I asked about events. For instance, I was told at orientation that they always had therapy dog at the school. You just have to make an appointment to see them. I get to the building they were talking about, and the employees were dumbfounded when I asked about the therapy dog stuff.
And dont even bother paying for a 7 day meal plan. The cafeterias are only open for 6. Only ONE (Kerr) is open EARLY MORNING on a sunday, and the food is disgusting and usually undercooked anyway.
The only reason some of these people are giving 5 star ratings is because they didnt attend. They just visited. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT GOES ON BEHIND THE SCENES. YOU. DONT. KNOW.

I strongly suggest to transfer students, make sure you are not taking redundant classes Advisors only want MONEY. They are not interested in your future. Transcripts from transfer schools are never located, even if they are hand delivered. PLEASE make sure your money is well worth spent.

I went to this university and I miss it so much! I didn't live on campus, but in an apartment down the street (Eagle Creek), so I don't know of any "dorm issues". My friend lived in one and she never had any problems though. For parking, when I did commute, I would have to get there early so I could find a space before my classes started, but I honestly feel like that will be an issue at any university! But regarding the classes, advisers, professors I had, the scenery, Denton in general...I loved it all!

There were quite a few things about UNT the upset me but there were also a lot of things that we were happy about. The price was atrocious and rose every year my husband and I attended. I ended up transfering to TWU but he graduated from the Engineering program at UNT in 2013. Another huge downfall for us was that they make it VERY hard to be a non traditional student. There are not enough class times and even told us that they expect their students to focus on school, not work.... well we had a family so we needed to do both and were forced to take minimum wage jobs because those were the only ones that would work around our school. When he went to another school for his masters he was able to work in his field full time and go to school full time and maintain a 4.0.... so I think UNT can seriously do better there. We do have many fond memories of our time at UNT, though.

One of the good universities close to the DFW metro.
Offers degrees in various fields of study.
Campus is very student centric and friendly.
Has a relaxed environment without much hustle bustle where one can relax and focus on their studies.
Also university has good campus placement and recruiting resources.
One place of improvement is the department for international students. It is a bit disorganized and some of the information provided by the staff [usually part time employed students ] is confusing and misleading.

I'm not sure how undergraduate programs fair at UNT, due to the fact that I got my undergraduate degrees at a different university. However, I will speak up for the graduate programs offered by UNT. I'm currently in my 2nd year Masters of Public Administration program here, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to pursue a graduate degree from this university! Not only is UNT's MPA program #1 in the State; it is ranked nationally as #8 in city and urban development. That says alot. Yes, the administration may be flawed and uncooperative at times, but please take into account the various other exceptional programs that UNT offers. The overrall administration may not be great, but I can say that the MPA program is top notch and offers it's students alot of networking opportunities. School is what you make it, and despite what some of the other comments may say... UNT is far from some of the worst public universities out there.

Overall not a bad experience, but that hill could ve used a sidewalk. Honestly probably the worst in game experience ever. Girl they ring that bell for everything!!! That cannon needs to CHILL as well! Let s also talk about how the student section was looking a little be off I must say. The people in North Texas are not what I would describe as 10 s . That stadium was about the size of the stadium I played most of my high school football games in. Sis! These country people hated us for no reason lol. It was a time and a half and I likely won t be back....

Great school. No more issues than any other school. Every school has its deficiencies but UNT works towards success and have come a long way. My experiences are life long positive experiences. My professors genuinely care and provide an atmosphere where students can develop their individual view points and perspectives.

I attended this school and I was happy to graduate...

I attended this school and I was happy to graduate with a Bachelors Degree. This school offers a wide variety of academic programs. Before attending UNT, I made the decision to complete the majority of my basic level courses at a 2-Year Community College. There is nothing wrong with attending a Community College first and I would highly recommend anyone reading this to attend one to complete their basics. Almost all Community Colleges are open-access, which means almost anyone who applies to attend one of them is accepted. Community College courses are also much cheaper than University level courses. Community College courses are also much easier than University level courses and these courses will almost always transfer to whichever 4-year University you plan to transfer your basics to. Another thing I enjoyed while attending Community College was how the class size was much smaller in size than University level courses. There were a few University level courses I had taken at UNT that had class sizes with over 100 students. These class sizes made me feel out of reach from my professor. Every class I took in Community College had class sizes of under 25 students. Personally, less students in a classroom makes the connection between me and the instructor much stronger and fosters a more interactive/ hands-on learning environment. UNT was big on giving their students free admission to home sports games. As long as I presented my student ID, I had the luxury of enjoying free home softball games, free home football games, free home basketball games, and sometimes discounted food at local restaurants around the UNT campus. UNT is a great school.

Nice University as far as Universities go. Plenty to like, plenty not to like. They do have a complete lack of concern for students who choose/need to commute. Pay for parking, then ticket you for parking because they do not provide near enough parking spaces. They hold events and temporarily/permanently provide those spots for special events. If a student with a permit parks there they are ticketed. If you can't stay on campus 24/7 for whatever reason as a student I would not recommend this university.

Even with a degree, I can't find the words to describe how much I abhor UNT...from parking all the way through the upper level administration. I've had many [not-at-fault] legal difficulties with this university, and I'll also tell you that UNT's number one interest is not the education of the students. If you don't believe me, all you have to do is donate thousands of dollars to find out for yourself.

...worst experience of my life.

I graduated from UNT in 2005 with a BS. I spent 5 years there and I had a lot of fun. I have an outstanding parking ticket from spring of 2005 for $53 and at the begining of every semester I receive a bill in the mail for my $53 ticket + $25 late fee for every semester since then, all listed out, and now 11 years later its become pretty entertaining to see it in the mailbox every semester.

DO NOT go here if you are serious about your educa...

DO NOT go here if you are serious about your education! I just finished my first year here and it was the WORST choice I will probably make in my ENTIRE LIFE! I ended up with VERY FEW GOOD TEACHERS. In my second semester, I had two teachers that were absent for about a month's worth of classes, and no, they don't give you anything in return such as a refund if your teachers decide to do this. You just end up wasting time and money to fail those classes. One of my teachers just openly admitted to being fired from another college so expect those kinds of teachers when coming here.

I was told I was accepted into the computer science program after I had applied for the school and got my acceptance letter. HOWEVER, when I got to orientation, they told me that I was NOT accepted into the program and was instead in need of some other classes. This information would have been very useful to me when they sent me the letter saying I was "accepted into the program" so that I could have taken the math class I still needed while I was in high school. So at this point, I'm in their pre-engineering program. If you end up in this program, just quit as soon as possible. UNT doesn't care a single bit about their pre-engineering program at all. In fact, they care about it so little, that it isn't even called pre-engineering, they just throw you into HPS which is not engineering related in the SLIGHTEST! During First Flight Week, I ended up in the wrong place because the meeting for pre-engineering students DIDN'T HAVE A START TIME! I did ask them about this later and they did admit that they did indeed forget to put the start time for it in our booklets.

Oh yeah, and have fun trying study and get from class to class while EVERY stereotypical group tries to shove their controversial opinion in your face.

Also, remember that here, your car is NOT SAFE! Somebody wrote on all of the driver side windows of my car. I didn't know it happened until the weekend since I didn't use my car during the week as they make freshmen park about 15-25 minutes away from their dorms.

I've had countless more awful experiences here but I hope I have said enough to prevent you from going to this school at this point. Now I'm stuck in major debt and I have to work it all off before I can actually go to a REAL college! Take my advise and AVOID THIS SCHOOL AT ALL COSTS! Go somewhere else and get your money's worth from a real college.

Words cannot describe how awful my experience has been here. Outrageous cost of student living, prking (which is also awful by the way). Do not come here if you plan on commuting. This school was apparently an amazing school for future educators but I would say, if you re wanting to be a teacher (especially the elementary level) DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL. The program is absolutely useless. There were a few classes that made since for my degree, but overall this degree should not take ANYONE more than 4 years! I was not behind, and was on track to graduate on time. But they added a 5th year of just student teaching (which should have been done during year 4).

Professors bring politics into every lecture and I ve been called out multiple times for my race, religion, and political views. Unless you agree with their side, this school is NOT for you.

Great place to attend college. Atmosphere is welcoming, diverse demographic, amazing professor's, beautiful campus, lots of activities/ organizations to be a part of. I really enjoyed that it had a rural area feel with the big city down the highway. I recommend you live on campus to avoid traffic. Only having one way in out of the area (highway 35) made it hard at time because of traffic

Worst experience since the 1st time I step foot on...

Worst experience since the 1st time I step foot on the campus for a tour. I was pretty much lied to by the recruiter that came to my high school, and lied to again before I paid my 1st tuition bill. I'm from a town thats on the border of Texas and was told that I would not have to pay out of state fees. My home at the was a block away from the Texas state line. So for months I'm asking questions about financial aid and cost and still I'm told out of state fees would be waved. After one month of living on campus my bill comes and it hqs the out of state fees on it. I go to billing and ask what is going on and told them what I was told . they looked at me like I was crazy. The woman that was "explaining" my bill said that I must have misheard the staff and that there is no way anyone will tell a future student that their out of state fees would be waived. I have had so many issues with this university but my last straw was when I was 30hrs shy of graduating the financial aid department held my Pell Grant because I was behind on paying the previous semesters bill $500. I did not have a job at the time and if they had just let me use the finiancal aid it would had covered everything. I could had finished my last year of college. At that time I could not call my parents to help me out so I was very dependent on financial aid. When I finialy got a job I tried to do a payment plan they said I couldn't do that because it was only for paying the full tutiton and not previously semester bills. $500 may not sound like a lot to some of you but at that time I could not afford to give someone $500 at once. I barely made enough to have a roof over my head and there were days I did not eat. Because I couldn't pay the money in time they cancelled my financial aid and left me with a $12,000 bill. Till this day I can't better my life by getting an education because I can't get my transcript. UNT was my most epic fail and because they were so greedy and petty over $500 I did not graduate with my bachalors degree and I have been paying down a debt for over 6yrs . I can't get a better paying job until I get the education that I need but I'm stuck in limbo with UNT.

Unless you're planning on living on campus, avoid UNT. UNT doesn't help commuters in the least. Parking is a joke. Don't pay for it--seriously. You're better off just parking in a neighborhood (I recommend Ave G or Highland St), and just walking to campus.

Moreover, the campus staff--including the professors--cater only to excessively liberal points of views. I'm a liberal, but I want to open up the conversation to more neutrality and different persepctives. If you're a conservative or moderate going to school here--good luck.

Classes are really hit or miss. Of course, there are some really incredible professors, but they're really not the majority. I have had professors directly insult me and other students--and for really moronic things like holding down a job or having a stutter or studying something that's not "lucrative". I don't expect a perfect campus, but damn.

UNT has its pros and cons. As usual parking is a big issue here. However I've found professors and staff to be caring and passionate about what they do. Students seem to very accepting as the campus is very liberal. Lots to do all the time. Dorms are okay at best. Food is good but needs more variety.

I'm surprised, so many one star reviews here. I agree it's no Harvard, but I wouldn't go as far as calling the University Of North Texas, an oversized community college, Come on?! I can only speak in my experience attending UNT's College Of Business and the instructors I engaged with. All considered tuition here is more affordable than most, pair that with highly qualified instructors I saw in classrooms, Id say you GET the most bang for your buck and then some. I was lucky enough to enroll just as the University completed construction of a new COB building. A hugely upgraded facility from what I expected, lucky timing I suppose.

Most importantly I truthfully enjoyed attending class, regardless of how hard we partied on Fry St. the previous night. NEVER imagined myself saying those words before attending this University.

Short version,
No one likes to pay for school, but tuition is relatively a "bargain" because the Dollar: IQ received ratio is excellent! My major was business; our building was brand new, and the professors I thought were brilliant. Bringing in CEO's of billion dollar business as our private guest speakers, sharing invaluable real-world insight found in no textbooks. Collectively the Universities CoB Professors and guest speakers elegantly bridge the gap many graduates might otherwize find difficult to cross, the transition from College to Career.

Just my opinion... I enjoyed the University Of North Texas

As a former football player, let me say that the sports (at least football) suck here. And don't even get me started on the parking. You can get charged randomly and you pay lots for parking. But aside from those things, the professors are very nice and helpful in my experience, the campus and its surroundings are cool and just overall a good school. I recommend highly to anyone looking for a public college in Texas. Just avoid the parking.

Amazing place to go to school if you want a lot to do/options in undergrad. Amazing music, applied anthropology, education, English and pretty good history department. Terrible Public Administration department- the teachers are mostly grad students so you never know what you are going to get and I had a bad experience so I would not recommend. (These are just the ones I am familiar with). Campus is walkable and lots of campus and off campus food options.
