Worst insurance company in the world. I wish I had...

Worst insurance company in the world. I wish I had read the reviews b4 I got involved with this company. They never fixed any problems I had, they sent a guy out, he took pictures, I got a response saying these were prior damages. I say send me the pictures your guy took. I was told they do not send their pictures out It's for their records only. What kind of mess is this. I will never deal with them again. I feel sorry for the other people who paid these crooks and got no help. These people are a rip off. These 5 stars on here came from them. They have their employees to pretend to be customers. These people are a rip off. Please do not use this company unless you have money and time to throw away.

Their customer service used to have problems with ...

Their customer service used to have problems with wait times and service, but I've been impressed with the past few times I've had to work with them with insurance restoration claims as a contractor. Benson Jean Baptiste worked with me today and was very patient, courteous, and helpful. They have always settled well in my experience, and it looks like their customer service is catching up.

Just received notice that our insurance was cancelled for failure of payment. Never received a bill, never received a warning, nothing! We'll find a more reliable company to do business with from this point on. Been a customer for a number of years. If this is the way they treat their clients, I'd hate to see the results of putting a claim in!

After being told the roof was in good order. I received a letter stating I must replace a few shingles . If not done before September 1st. I used a licenced roofer which was referred by the insurance company .He informed them the repairs were done on August 30th. And after evacuating for hurricane . I came home to a cancelled policy and a check dated August 30th . Mind you I just closed on the prorpety July 17th. Thank God the storm did little damage that I inteneded on fixing out of pocket. DO NOT CLOSE YOUR NEXT PROPERTY WITH THIS COMPANY. PAY THE EXTRA .

Rouxanne Ricketts answered my customer service call today. I explained that I have had trouble getting assigned an adjuster for a claim. I was able to provide the dates of submitted documents and calls for status updates. She graciously took all of my information again and had the claim assigned within minutes. She was a pleasure to work with. Excellent Customer Service! :)

This insurance company is a scam. We lost our home...

This insurance company is a scam. We lost our home and all our belongs in hurricane Florence. We had 343,000 insured on our home and 171,000 in personal property. This company is trying to get away with paying us 168,000 on the value of our home and 7500 in personal property. We have lost everything and have two young kids. We naively believed that insurance would take care of us and now we have nothing.

Excellent customer service warrants appreciation, there are no two ways about this. I have been provided with excellent service. I can t show appreciation to Mrs. Ann-Marie Brown in-person, I wish to do so in writing. A few days prior to having to place my claim with my provider, I had to lay to rest my oldest brother. Needless to say, coming home to a flooded condo after a service seven days later wasn t a welcomed emergency.
Needless to say I had no knowledge of which direction to go. Long story short, Ann-Marie finally provided me the appropriate direction. There were technically challenging issues that I was unaware of and she discreetly put me at ease. Her attitude towards my claim was on an entirely different level. Great job! I m pretty sure Mrs. Brown is a valued member of her team. She showed a genuine concern to help me resolve my claim issues, and I appreciate the fact that she takes customers seriously.

My house suffered damage due to a lightning strike a few weeks ago and I filed a claim handled by Tiffany McCall. From start to finish, Tiffany displayed exemplary customer service. Whenever I had questions, Tiffany happily answered them all. She made sure to thoroughly explain the process to me and made sure I understood how my policy worked. At no point did I feel like I was just a number but instead I was a person who was a priority. If all employees at UPCIC are like Tiffany, then I am happy to be a customer.

Less than stellar experience so far. Had an adjuster out 2 weeks ago to look at hail damage on my home. Was told he was submitting the report for review. Contacted Universal after not hearing anything and was told the adjuster hadn't submitted his report. Attempted to contact the adjuster to see what the hold up was and didn't hear back from him, either. At this rate I will be searching elsewhere for homeowners insurance as I find Universal's "customer service" to be absolutely abysmal. My premiums have been paid in full and in a timely manner, but it seems they do not feel they have to provide their customers with the same courtesy.

I deal with companies almost everyday whose customer care representatives just go to work for a "PayCheck". Today I spoke with an amazing, knowledgeable and professional that made my day. She knew the right answers to give me and if I had a question that she wasn't sure of, before she disseminated inaccurate information she placed me on a brief hold to double check the source. From the time she answered the call until we ended the call if t was a pleasure. I hope Universal appreciate her. I forgot her name but not a wonderful experience.

Homeowners please seek out USAA for veterans, State Farm is AMAZING and pays swiftly and efficiently. RUN from this place ladies and gentlemen.

I am a home owner and had to file my first claim due to a water line in my show that broke and flooded 1/2 my home in about 3-4" of hot water (thanks to a tankless water heater it was all hot) I called Master restoration and they came out right away and they had the water cleaned up and removed my (1 year old LVP) flooring in the 4 rooms and placed the equipment and monitored it every day it was in my home I filed the claim on 9/14 the adjuster contacted me that same week and came out on 9/22 and turned in his report by 9/25 and i waited to hear from some one from Universal Property Ins. and I called my agent the week of 10/5 and he gave me the name & # of my claims adjuster to date I have left him over 12 messages and his voice mail refers me to call the CSR to get status however they just tell you to leave a message for the Claims adjuster I have had it escalated to his supervisor Hilda however when I call her # it is an out of service cell # so I was given her managers # Jennifer Marty but her VM is full and you can't leave a message I was told 2 different times that they had escalated it and would receive a call back by end of day but never did either on then 13th or the 14th but was told today an escalation means that they would call me back within 7- business days and I replied that that isn't an escalation at all just to receive a call back so it has been over a month since I filed a claim and I have never spoken to anyone except CSR that just give me phone #s taht aren't answered or monitored by anyone. This is not a way to treat your customers. my claim # FL20-0135440 I just want to get my home repaired and back to the way it was before this took place no more no less. I just need someone to contact me.

I wish i could give this people a negative -1000. KATHRYN MITCHELL is unproffesional as it could get rude by the emails. My claim was denied because of her but dont worry I will sue your company. I just had a baby girl born last week and I have dirt all over the house after submitting all the correct paperwork she felt like denying the claim. Last year you increase my policy by $500 without doing any claims but when I need you now you guys denied it right. Worst company heartless people.

If I could give them no stars I would. Horrid company and horrible people to speak to. I bound my new insurance policy with them at the end of June. I sent in not only my wind mitigation inspection, but also a 4pt inspection by a certified professional. They told me someone from the company would come out to inspect my home for themselves, but they did not need access to the home. Ok... On 8/15/18 I received a cancellation letter. No reason attached, so I called. They canceled my insurance because I had visible roof repairs. Which were evident in my inspections report and which the inspector certified there were no leaks and no structural damage; my roof still has over 10yrs of life left. They didn't care, to them the integrity of the roof was compromised. At no point whatsoever did their inspector actually get on my roof or conduct a proper inspection of my roof. I reported them to the state. The state did nothing because Universal told them that they "inspected" the roof. I found a new insurance company and told them what happened. They sent out an inspector and the inspector not only saw the roof, came into the house to look at the ceilings, and used technology to rule out water damage and water filtration anywhere in my home. I have a bound policy now for half of the premium Universal charged me. Stay away from this company at all costs and I hope they go belly up if they write policies in the Carolinas.

I am very pleased with Stephen Montgomery, my Customer Service representative at Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Co. Stephen was very helpful in describing Universal's method of processing a claim and was very understanding of the difficulty I was going through in regard to the water accident that occurred to my home. This is the first time I have encountered water issues due to plastic fixtures to water lines that can explode and cause so much damage. It was particularly surprising in that I had just replaced all carpet and marble flooring in the last 6 months that were ruined by the water.

We had some severe storm that caused roof damage and leaking in the living room over the exterior door first call we made they said call a roofing contractor to survey the damage so we did they sent the info of the damage to the company reviewed it and sent me a check for $219.00 dollars? Seriously to replace 2 shingles. On a 2 layers of shingles well over 15 yrs old I m done with their business is a joke the paper I received was to fix the ceiling in the living room what s that gonna fix if the roof is still leaking I m looking at new homeowners policy companies Totally unprofessional

I have 2 separate claims that have not been review...

I have 2 separate claims that have not been reviewed in over 2 months. These both happened before the hurricanes so that can't be their excuse. The assigned adjusters don't return calls or emails and the claims representatives can't tell me anything new. These claims have been "expedited" multiple times each and both still sit "in queue" to be assigned. I don't know what else to do but they're holding a lot of money back. Stay away if you value you time/property.

Im upgrading universal up to a 2 star review considering they did pay for the rebuild so far for the most part.... of course they still want you to pay for your food and be reimbursed... but that's if you can survive all that time eating out feeding a large family isn't cheap each meal.... breakfast lunch and dinner which we all eat... so thank you for the money to stay in a hotel somewhat but most of that was spent on that and eating out so we'r ate unable to stay in the hotel the full time we'r lost use, we are back in our house while they are doing the work... not so bad I mean we didn't really have a kitchen at the hotel either we still have to eat out daily till it's done... so another 2 or 3 weeks maybe we'll see... so I'm not complaining just hoping the money they sent us under ALE won't have to be used to pay contractors because we overextended with the ALE, tapping into our mortgage payments each month is a little concerning....I still feel the transition should have been more smooth... so I have upgraded them from 1 to 3 stars

As I have entered back into my unfinished home to stay because this awful insurance company wants to argue about what they will and will not pay for with a contractor I didn't think 15000 was too bad to rebuild a kitchen and replace our flooring... guess they want us with the ugliest cheapest kitchen imaginable when in actuality it was not that to begin with... now the marketing coordinator said "I'm going to put a smile on your face by the end of the day" that ward nearly 2 weeks ago and I'm still not smiling.. I really want to take the one star I gave them away. They actually expect me to pay my mortgage and bills fed my kids etc while paying for a hotel. And then they reimburse me... who can afford that... they must think I'm in the wealthy tax bracket that got tax cuts from the Republicans... well I'm not... this has been one of the most heinous experiences of my life with this insurance company and its lofty expectations of what their customers should do on the event of loss of use in your home... now I am here with my wife and 1 year old son & 13 year old daughter in an unfinished home because we cannot afford to stay in the hotel any longer. It's already been 30 plus days in the hotel. The bill was enormous... way more than my mortgage and bills combined. That's not even including the extra gas burned to go out to eat and the food from various establishments. The people that run this insurance company are inconsiderate and they have a hard time approving things that should be easily approved... when this process is over I'm surely leaving this insurance company for greener pastures on the other side at USAA. This process would have been done. contractors would have been in here and done already. I mean damn... God built the world in a day.... I can't get a kitchen rebuild in 30 plus days.... preposterous! -1Star. Also David Levin I'm still waiting on him to put this guaranteed smile on my face

So far they will have to redeem themselves in my eyes and my wife's.... due to the fact of all these promises of a check being sent out... never knew it to take nearly 2 weeks to mail a small envelope from Florida to Virginia... also why does the company expect when you have loss of use of your home to pay out of pocket abs be reimbursed.... who do they know that has money to pay mortgage and for hotel room nightly and eat out nightly... USAA has a much more smoother transition during these times... if only we knew about this company before signing on the dotted line or before making a claim... so far they have been the worst... my claims Adjuster Tom Washington is Great... he gets 5 stars from me thus far. But the ladies that we have spoken to in the office seem to not really know what's going on or how to pay the contractors. Bills sent for claim issues.. no one paid yet... votes they want us to pay that out of pocket to and be reimbursed.... when they redeem themselves ill update this rating...

I was a customer for over 10 years, they miss posting a payment and then cancelled my policy with little explanation. Ended up getting a check back for the additional payments I made. Customer service just wanted to push me back to another agency.

It makes me give one star, I wouldn't even give them that. They do not disclose their MGA fees prior to binding the policy. Only needed coverage for 18 days, the fee cost more than the coverage did! Had I been made aware of this prior to binding, I would have looked for another more reputable carrier. Their claim process after hurricane Irma was also less than desired. Find someone else. They would rather take bad reviews than refund a fee, terrible business practices.

Worst insurance company. Took my money, insured me for 3 months then tried to cancel the policy during Irma. They sent me an apology due to federal regulations they were violating, then sent me another cancelation as soon as it was lifted. So they were paid almost $1,000 for nothing, they provided absolutely no coverage. This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with.

They have time to answer all their negative reviews but not help customers. They should be stripped of writing any new policies and forced to sell there existing ones to more reputable companies.

Unethical towards Insureds. Fails to accurately and fairly process claims. Shows no empathy for Insureds who have suffered a loss. Fails to maintain open communications with Insureds. Fails to give explanation and uses unethical persons to evaluate and adjust your claim. Then they write meaningless replies to numbers of insureds who are consistently reporting about the same deficiencies, over, and over, and over, again.

Ok, I have no problem with the coverage, or local rep, but the web site to renew is absolutely terrible. I wanted to renew my annual coverage in one payment, it only charged my account the quarterly payment, I got on line again to pay balance, it only charged the next quarterly amount. This is ridiculous. Now I have to try twice more to pay the annual amount. Next year I will be using another insurance company, no matter what the cost.

UPDATE. After this post, I heard personally from a person named Dave (sorry I did not get the last name) who tried to fully understand what went wrong. While, it was too late to resolve my issue, he was very interested in ensuring this would not happen to others. The fact he called, listened, and followed up says a lot about the companies interest in hearing from customers. Kudos.

This insurance company has zero communication. Their agents are very lazy and will not rereturn calls or give any info on anything. A tree fell on my garage over 2 months ago and it still hasn't been fixed and I can never reach my so called agent. Now to add insult to injury there is 3 inches of snow on it. Worst people to do business with. I will be dropping this company for their lack of attention to doing their job. I pay for my insurance so that when I need it is there. If you have this company then you'll also need a layer.

Terrible Claim service. This company has given us the runaround since the claim. Generally here is cycle of what has happened:
1 When we call to check status
2 They request a piece of additional information
3 The additional information is provided and they say our claim will be expedited and that they have every thing they need to process the claim
4 Nothing happens
5 We call to check status
6 Either:
-a Our claim adjuster quits
-b They lose the file
-c we were reassigned
7 They say they will expedite
8 Go back to step 1

I just wanted to say thinks to Ted Goodwin for getting things going with our claim. Due to the unfortunate storm that hit our area we had to make a claim to our insurance. The process had been very slow due to the amount of folks making claims I'm sure, but ours just felt stuck. I spoke with 10 different people before I got to Ted, and thats when things honestly turned around. Ted was professional, above board, and represented Universal Property and Casualty as best as anyone could. They are dropping the check in the mail and our lives will be getting back to normal very soon. Ted, thanks so much for all your help-and Universal, thanks for hiring people such as this. Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company
leaves 90-year-old Elderly Homeowner with an unresolved claim,
with mold contamination, damaged carpet trip hazards, unfinished
repairs, and mounting damage repair bills still unpaid. Why? Could partly be because Universal hires sub-contracted insurance adjusters who ARE NOT LICENSED to adjust claims!!! Adding insult to injury, the unlicensed adjuster unethically tries to suggests the 90-year-old elderly homeowner should accept less than 30 cents on the dollar of his damages, all in violation of Florida adjuster licensure statutory rules and regulations.

Why should a homeowner pay 100% of the premium to Universal, if Universal does not want to make sure they hire properly licensed and experienced staff to adjust claims, and does not want to pay the full amount of damages when a homeowner is unfortunate of having a claim?

DOCUMENTED FACT - UPCIC (Universal), through it's sister company Alder Adjusting, DOES EMPLOY contracted UNLICENCED ADJUSTERS who are illegally handling Universals claims. We have additionally been informed by UPCIC that there is no claims manager assigned to the claim.

I have had the same policy since 2008 and i have never put a claim in ever until Hurricane Irma came around and caused damage to my roof. It's now almost 2 years later and the claim is going to litigation!!!! i had to hire an adjuster to help me, unbelievable.... very disappointed in this company. If i could give no stars i would.

They only get a star because you can not post a no star!! I suffered a water loss on 5/30/2016 . It is now 10/6/2016 and I am unable to fix my home AND THEY ARE NOT PAYING MY ADDITIONAL LIVING EXPENSES. It has been so devastating...and The Division of Financial Services has been as horrible to deal with as the insurance company. I have written to Governor Scott's office....will let you know how that goes.

He was knowledgeable and wrote me a check for the repairs right on the spot! What a service. I never had a claim in the past and really had no expectations. Well let me tell you, Mr. Stec set the standard really high.

After hurricane Michael, my house had a few things...

After hurricane Michael, my house had a few things that needed repairs, Universal Prop & Cas Ins was on top of things from the very beginning. I was able to get the majority of the money before I was even billed by the companies that I had to call for repairs. I was given an estimate for the siding on one wall of the house, which can't be matched to the rest. The ins company told me to get an estimate to replace the siding on the entire house so it would all match. They will consider the new request when it is done.
Nicholas Wilke has been my adjuster for this process. He has been pleasant and helpful through the entire event. :)

I have a current claim and cannot seem to get anywhere. Things keep going in circles and I am left with a gutted bathroom (down to the studs and completely not functional) for over a month. I never receive updates. I constantly have to call in to get the status and every time I call there is a different story and someone else handling the claim. I have tried to contact my adjusters supervisor who's voice mailbox is full.....not surprised.

Cant wait to leave universal. Tree fell on house along with limbs during hurricane irma, submitted claim and 3rd party adjuster came out and said only a few shingles missing little damage. Sure enough over a month went by without any word on claim. Finally i had to email and call and got a response after complaining to customer support. They responded with estimate that was $15 less than deductible...how convenient. Didnt stop water from coming into garage. The roof was damaged beyond repair and nothing well every neighbor had 0 destriction (no trees fell on their house) and all had some shingle loss and insurance companies replaced roofs. Terrible service and terrible 3rd party adjusters. Roof now damaged again with last week of storms through central florida to the point i had to get up on roof and just do whatever i could to stop leaks and skylight leaks. Thanks for nothing universal

Within a couple of weeks Universal Property & Claims made sure the money was there for the contractor to pull to buy what he needed to put a new roof on my house before the leak could damage the inside of my house. Two days later I had a new roof. Thank you Universal Insurance for moving so quickly to make sure we had the new roof we needed right away. I have mailed in my premium for next year. This was the first time I had a problem and it was nice to see my Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company was there for me." Thank You Again For All Your Help."

Very unethical business. We switched homeowners insurance to a different company when we began renting our home as a short term vacation rental. However, Universal Risk Assessors continued to collect their premium. When we discovered this was happening, we asked them to refund the 7 months of premiums they owed us, but after first requesting more documents and then ignoring our requests for two months they finally said they refused to refund our money. They are crooks and very unprofessional. Stay away!

I found a shingle from my roof after a June storm. Soonest I could get a roof inspector out here was july. However there was also a very bad wind storm in april and the inspector felt that most of the damage to my roof was done at that time. In march i had my gutters cleaned and there was no damage at that time. I get a letter that i filed my claim too late. The claim was filed in july. Seriously! Called adjuster to explain and left voice mails to please call me. I cant get a live person on the phone. The adjuster emails me and says inspector said damage was done in april. And I filed too late. So what!! In other words you snooze you lose??? Im 66 years old. Am I supposed.to go on my roof everytime we have a storm to see.if it is damaged?? This company will take your money but not pay out a claim.

I've found them to be fair in the claims assessments and cordial when speaking to them over the phone. They helped me address an issue I had with my credits and they were very patient at explaining, understanding and resolving my scenario.

Worst insurance company I ever had coverage with!!!! A friend suffered a loss on my property and I filed my first ever homeowners liability claim in 40 years of home ownership! My friend was more than reasonable and asked for only the $9,000 + in medical. Which is way below my supposed coverage limits!

Universal only offered $3,500! Now I being sued because of them!

Do yourself a favor and find anyone else for insurance !

This company has been the absolute worst insurance...

This company has been the absolute worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. We had several trees damage a rental property in Fl during the last hurricane. We submitted our claim and the adjuster (in NC) said that they are not doing in person inspections due to COVID. He asked that we submit photos and dertail damages. We had the property manager go out twice to take photos. We submitted everything asked and did not hear back. I called the adjuster and he said to call Universal. After spending an hour on hold the customer service rep was rude and said the claim was denied because the damage estimate was less than the deductible. The adjuster estimated the damage at $1100 however he left off the roof,fence, s and other items. The customer service rep refused to send me a copy of the estimate, help with expediting another adjuster looking at the property (45 days to have another adjuster look at property). She suggested that I go ahead and pay out of pocket and then submit bills in a new claim and then if they don t cover the damage I can go to mediation.(they ve done this before). I m getting estimates in the $7500 range just to clean up the damage. Read the reviews, they are doing the same thing to several customers. To be clear, I have a propert that was damaged in an event covered by my policy. I filled a claim, the insurance company refused to send an adjuster to the property, pay for damages estimated by independent contractors, want me to pay out of pocket first and then be reimbursed if they decide to pay. I m not sure what it is they are up to but it doesn t sit well with me.

I called the morning after Hurricane Michael (Thursday 10/11/18) and although I am positive that there were thousands just like me, to my surprise, my adjuster (Zack) was at my house 2 days later on Saturday morning. He was thorough and very kind. We had two trees on our home, water damage, and damage to other parts of our property. Early the next week, I was contacted by my desk examiner, Brandon Thompson, and assured that they were working on my case. So far, I have received money to get started and they have issued supplements based on my receipts in a very timely manner. I can not say enough nice things about Brandon and Universal. This was a very scary time for me (my first ever home insurance claim), but Brandon made me feel at ease and assured me that Universal would take care of me and thus far they have!

Avoid this insurance company at all cost. It has been more than 30 day's since Hurricane Sally hit us. And they have been extremely difficult to work with. Our home is unsafe to live in and uninhabitable, we are getting zero ALE funds for other living arrangements. We're already getting sick and hope we don't end up hospitalized from this.

I received a check for the amount I paid for the renewal of my policy. It is a month since the policy was paid for and I assumed it was active. This company gave no explanation for the check. I guess I'm supposed to asume it is canceled and I've had no insurance for the past month. GREAT COMPANY!!!

When my Air Conditioner broke down in the hot Alabama summer I was terrified of when I'd be able to get AC back. Fortunately for us we had an awesome Claims Examiner and we also had a mechanical breakdown endorsement on our home owners policy. Shout out to Caitlin Fitzgerald. She was highly professional, courteous, and expedited my claim in a timely manner. I'm highly satisfied with the customer service I have received on what has been unfortunately 2 claims within a couple months of one another. I've never had a claims adjuster ever call me back so quickly, and I myself am a Commercial Lines Underwriter for Workers Compensation. Again, give Caitlin Fitzgerald a raise Universal she's well worth keeping. :-)

Really poor service. I have tried to reach the adjuster for over 2 months Camille Wilson. She does not return phone calls or emails. The mold in our condo got worse because she wouldn't return the calls to Entrusted the company they recommend. The bill doubled and we have had to pay out of pocket. Now we are ready to put things back together... and still no one returns our call. The people who pick up the phone say " it is under review". I do not recommend Universal Casualty Insurance. My next step is the Better Business Burea and Media.

They requred me to repair roof and get hurricane straps as well as special nails. Told me work had to be completed by March 9, 2018. All completed and inspector emailed the results. My policy was cancelled with no explanation,, just a check in the mail. No one ever answered the phone. Left message no call back. Don't understand why they would do this. They were highly recommended. Hurt and angry. Spent almost $10000 to get treated this way. Hurt, angry and disappointed.

Ann-Marie Brown Universal Property Claims Examiner with Alder Adjusting Corp. did an outstanding job working the details and evaluation on my claims. First settlement submitted was 30% of my needed cost to repair my condo unit back to normal condition after having water damage from another unit next to mine. Working with Ann-Marie she provide the appropriate guidelines and information to me in order to obtain proposals from contractors demonstrating what the actual cost would be vs what the initial cost estimate by the first adjuster had submitted.
Thanks to Ann-Marie I was able to receive the real cost to make my repairs. Universal Property should be proud to have an employee as conscientious as Ann-Marie Brown.

Having a flood in our home was no fun and living through the dust was stressful. Thank goodness for the quick response from Universal Property for our Losses. We were able to get started on the repairs immediately. The best part of out experience was dealing with Anne-Marie Brown (our adjuster), she was absolutely amazing. We had open communication the entire time and she was so easy to get in touch with when we had questions. Anne-Marie explained every detail to us when it came to our claim and the process. I thought I would post a quick note to say thank you to the team at Universal.
Upon purchasing my new home I contacted Universal several times with sometimes simple and sometimes not so simple technical questions. On each occasion I was treated with great care and consideration with their answers placing me in the best possible position regarding my insurance.
