Awesome. Well worth the guided tour. Too bad it is not possible to visit the conference halls.

There is a lot to see and experience here. Tours are not difficult to get even without a reservation.

Do not waste your time on the public tour. It's awful. Instead, contact your congressman or senators and ask for a private evening tour. Most will say no, but you could get lucky. At night, it's quiet and congressmen can take you into rooms that others don't know about.

The symbol that comes to mind when you say America :) Very nice place for photos !!!

An enjoyable, free, tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. Worth doing.

The United States Capitol, often called the Capitol Building, is the home of the United States Congress and the seat of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government. It is located on Capitol Hill at the eastern end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Though no longer at the geographic center of the Federal District, the Capitol forms the origin point for the District's street-numbering system and the District's four quadrants.
The original building was completed in 1800 and was subsequently expanded, particularly with the addition of the massive dome, and expanded chambers for the bicameral legislature, the House of Representatives in the south wing and the Senate in the north wing. Like the principal buildings of the executive and judicial branches, the Capitol is built in a distinctive neoclassical style and has a white exterior. Both its east and west elevations are formally referred to as fronts, though only the east front was intended for the reception of visitors and dignitaries.

I came at night and it was very enjoyable. Not a lot of people but was still able to see the building. Walked around and felt safe in the area. Recommend for cool photos

Magnificent building, a MUST when visiting Washington

So much history in a single place. Very impressive. A bit disappointment due to dome restoration, we won't have been able to see all the paintings. Very nice guide!

If Washington has anything, it is the majesty of its buildings. Even the most skeptical is urged to hum the US anthem when it is in front of this building.

The United States Capitol Hill is a magnificent building that symbolizes freedom and democracy. It symbolizes the best authorities in the United States. There are many people to visit and it is necessary to queue up early. There is a lot of outside parking spaces that require permission. It's really hard to park around, but there are many indoor parking lots nearby. Come on, the botanical garden next to cherry blossoms this season is also worth walking. Fantastic tourist attraction recommended for all!

The Capitol tour was very disappointing. Basically stand in two different rooms and tell the tour guide where you are from and he/she tells about the statues representing your state. That s it.

Outstanding place of government! Loved walking through this building learning our United States history! Have been here three different times and have always enjoyed it! Visiting the Senate chamber is awesome! Great place to share the Gospel!

Beautiful building, I don't know why you would miss this if you were ever in D.C., but just in case you are in a hurry, this is one of the must sees. Many shops and places to eat as well nearby.

We signed up for the tour when we visited, and it was a good way to learn a little bit more about the Capitol building and what goes on in it. Our tour guide was really good. The tour is not very long or comprehensive, but it's still worth it.

Parking can be a huge hassle. However, remember, this is DC. Public transport is just great. The subway works great. Everything is very walkable - Even if you have little kids with you. Or, better Uber around. Plenty of restaurants in the vicinity and literally dozens of food trucks for cheaper options. Major food districts are never far from here.

Now, the good stuff: It doesn't work simply to go up to the Capitol building and take a pic. It's the whole area. The grounds, the little monuments all around, the eclectic blend of surrounding buildings. Look, it's all history. You can't just snap a shot of history. You have to 'walk through it' and 'experience' it. So do that. WALK. Walk around the building. Look at the little things - The water fountains and the lamps. This place is an experience.

Security is incompetent here, depending on the entrance, you get a different degree of security.

Way too many people. Not enough parking. Cool history. Long, long lines everywhere. Do it once just so you can say you have been. The guides were helpful, knowledgeable and doing what they could but there were just too many people.

I'm not sure why they allow so many clueless criminals to work here.

Cool place, very rich in American history although I wish the guides working there inside the capitol were a little more open to questions and a little more friendly.

Beautiful experience to see the building and surrounding grounds. We didn t do a tour, but you can simply walk around it and enjoy.

Contact your House Representative for free tour information and you can get to other places not in the standard tour from the visitor center.

I've done the U.S. Capitol Tour(s) 40-50 times. With the Capitol Dome, Rotunda, Senate Brumidi Corridors and East Senate Facade restoration completed (as of Sept. 2017), the U.S. Capitol is nearly at its best (Senate West facade is still scaffolded). A lot of visitors do the main U.S. Capitol Tour, which visits the Rotunda, Supreme Court Chamber and a few other sights, but, only a handful of visitors do the other special tours. Currently Oct 2017), there are two additional tours; The Halls of the Senate Tour (1 p.m. M-F) is a stunning array of corridors on the Senate side designed/painted primarily by Constantino Brumidi, an Italian Immigrant who also painted the 'Apotheosis of Washington' on the ceiling of the Capitol Rotunda (see my pics). A new tour, 'Freedom Fighters' is a very interesting and informative tour about various historic individuals and their fight for the freedoms in America. The highlight is the Old Senate Chamber, another one of my favorite interiors. Great tour guide on this one.

Weird hours but worth it. Don't go during the cherry blossoms!

Tour only in English. It is free and lasts about an hour.
Keep in mind that you can not enter food or drink (or bottled water, fruit, ...). There are also no lockers to leave the bags, you have to throw away everything you have at the entrance.

The capitol building, one of the best symbols of our nation, is truly astounding. The architecture is amazing, the art is amazing, the tour guides and the history is amazing, it really makes you proud of our country.

Wow! Amazing architecture! I absolutely enjoyed my visit! Even though there is a partial government shutdown I saw no signs of trash or negligence here. It wasn't crowded so it made for some really good pictures to be taken. I was blown away by the size and detail of this building!

Did a tour which took just over an hour and well worth the investment of time. Our tour guy Kevin was super knowledgeable about the US capital and Congress, found it very informative!

Go inside and check it out! The rotunda is so cool on the inside.

Do yourself a favor and do some footwork before coming here. Contact your representative in Congress for a staff tour. I feel like it was much more informative and intimate than those large group tours, plus IT'S FREE.

An added bonus: if your Rep is in a leadership role, you get to see some nifty stuff like their extra offices. Steve Scalise is the Majority Whip, so we got to see the Lincoln Room (complete with an escape tunnel!).

One thing though: if you're on a private tour, make sure you get pictures of the Rotunda and Statuary Hall BEFORE you go back downstairs to the House/Senate galleries. We missed out on taking photos of one of our state's statues and didn't want to go through the trouble of getting on a tour group to do it.

After that, go spend the day watching the House and/or Senate in action. If you're lucky, they'll all be there voting on a measure. Got to watch John McCain speak, and was 30-odd feet away from Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, so it was a really great experience.

Really cool. Make time to do the tour. Simply amazing.

Beautiful place of Washington. Many people. I advise you to come early in the morning. In early March, tourists are already starting to arrive. Large rooms, a lot of places that are worth a look.

Very memorable experience! There's many things to do from the visitor center to the the actual tour of the building. The history is too rich!

The United States CapitoI is an impressive building by its size and its beauty. It is more beautiful and bigger than the White House and there are plenty of interesting things to do and to see around it as the United States Botanic Garden.

Amazing building with a massive amount of history. Make sure you go when Congress is in session to get the most out of your tour. I cam when it wasn't and it just was not the same.

Also, the dome seems to be under repair forever, which makes the rotunda not nearly as interesting to see. When it's done, I'm sure it'll be amazing.
