At the UMKC Child and Family Services Clinic, we understand that every child is unique. That's why we offer a wide range of services designed to meet the individual needs of each child. Our team includes licensed psychologists, social workers, counselors, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other professionals who work together to provide comprehensive care.
Our services include diagnostic assessments for children with developmental delays or learning disabilities; individual therapy for children struggling with anxiety or depression; family therapy to help families improve communication and resolve conflicts; group therapy for children who would benefit from peer support; speech-language therapy to help children improve their communication skills; occupational therapy to help children develop fine motor skills needed for daily living activities such as dressing themselves or writing; physical therapy to help children improve their gross motor skills needed for running or jumping.
We also offer specialized programs such as our Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) program which provides evidence-based interventions tailored specifically towards individuals on the autism spectrum. Our ASD program includes parent training sessions where parents can learn strategies that they can use at home with their child.
At the UMKC Child and Family Services Clinic we believe that early intervention is key when it comes to helping children reach their full potential. That's why we offer services starting from infancy through adolescence. We work closely with parents/guardians throughout treatment planning process so that they are informed about what will be happening during treatment sessions as well as how they can support their child outside of sessions.
Our clinic also offers training opportunities for graduate students in psychology/counseling fields who are interested in gaining hands-on experience working with clients under supervision by licensed professionals.
In addition to our clinical services offered at our main location on campus at Cherry Hall (5110 Rockhill Road), we also have satellite locations throughout Kansas City including one located within Truman Medical Center-Lakewood (7900 Lee's Summit Road). This allows us greater flexibility when scheduling appointments so that clients don't have travel far distances if it isn't necessary.
Overall, The UMKC Child & Family Services Clinic provides high-quality care tailored specifically towards each client’s needs while utilizing evidence-based practices backed by research within psychology/counseling fields. We strive not only provide excellent service but also educate future clinicians through hands-on experience working alongside licensed professionals within our clinic setting making us one-of-a-kind resource available right here in Kansas City!
