Got a phone call around 8:30 this evening from the staff at Ucan telling me that my son walked out of the facility this morning at 9:15 am. So now my son has been out in them streets of Chicago in the worst neighborhood no telling where he is at! Not to mention the fact that no one called me until almost 12 hours later informing me that he had left! This is very unprofessional and unacceptable! I pray to God that he is ok!

Friends had a son there for a while, and he ended up being transferred elsewhere, thank god. This kid has issues, but it's not his parents' fault. He was adopted from foster care, came with issues. UCAN was not monitoring him well. They knew he was a flight risk (mental health issues). The facility was actually caught letting him run. If they let him go, they still collect $$ for him, so they seemed not to care. The kid ran, stole a car, and police brought him back. How do I know they let him run? For the kid to access the elevator, staff has to unlock it, same with exiting the facility. When the kid was transferred, his parents called to ask them gather his stuff, if they could, and they would drive 4 hours from their home to pick it up. The facility, at first, made excuses. So, my friend, had to call the person in charge of all UCAN facilities. He contacted the facility himself and "magically" they had all of his stuff. So, today, my friend and her husband drive all the way up to the place, and the only thing they produced was a DVD player. They LIED about everything. This kids had a lot of stuff. LaShonda there was allegedly on vacation there. She is the one who lied to this family repeatedly. When I heard about this, I was shocked. I hope this woman is held accountable.
It seems like no one does their job there! This place is a free for all and lets anything go down. Staff will put hands on the kids! Better yet, they will let them run off with no accountability taken on their part. Just a free for all with no one really taking ownership here.
This place is amazing! Theybare really working in the community as a partnership. They aim to support those who have suffered trauma and reduce violence.

DCFS organization such as Ucan is not one that's truly for the youth. Some of the workers are trulythere to change lives and help youth to exceed the stereotypes of being foster children. I grew up in the system since I was eight years old. I just emancipated out at the age of 21. I ran away a lot when I was younger. I've been in 16, possibly more homes. I struggled with allowing someone to love me. As foster kids we're labeled. I became a mother at the age 18, I changed my life completely for my son. I've cooperated with services that were necessary for me. I transferred to Ucan September 2014 and this has been the worst agency I've ever been with. I've had been with four other agencies and Ucan is still the worst. In the past 2 1/2 years of being with this agency I've had five different case workers, people are literally running away from this agency. I've bee the kind of client to disrespect people. I've stepped outside of my character toward caseworkers a total of three times and each time had something to do with my child. My first placement living with them at the TLP on Cermak they had rats, I got a cat and Ucan upper management team came out to tell me I had to get ride of my cat(I left with the cat). My second TLP with the a staff member was utterly disrespectful and put a youth's child life in danger; Ucan upper management moved the client and I to a different TLP and kept the staff member as a worker. I then moved into my ILO(own apartment) I emancipated on my birthday, I've asked them about my emancipation money and I've been brushed off and now my case worker supervisor and upper management are lingering to give that to me. They're withholding checks they owe me and honestly I am pretty upset. Ucan is a terrible agency and I'm saying this from the experience I've had with them. I appreciate the few people who do their jobs because they genuinely care.
When the services of wasn't at UCan, I have been a client of there's scence 1993 until now they not only thought me how to save and to divide my into getting a multi family home, now my children and friends go to economic progress THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR MORE THAN MY WORDS CAN SAY.
THIS PLACE IS A JOKE UNCARING CHILDISH WORKERS NEVER ANSWERS THE PHONE. THEY JUST LET THE KIDS WALK OUT. THEY TALK ABOUT THE KIDS FIGHT THE KIDS DONT FEED THEM PROPERLY AND I KNOW PERSONALY THAT ONE OF THE STAFF FOUGHT A KID A MALE STAFF FAUGHT A PREGNANT FEMALE AND HE STILL WORKS THEIR
