UC Berkeley Review

Lets say, I don't like the negative image the media will focus on when "non-students" will invade campus by rioting, destroying (vandalizing)and looting this beautiful campus to make the media, which media loves to publicize and say are students. Students dont vandalize their own school as hard as it is to pay their tuition why would they destroy their own school? Because these losers aren't students! Also, not too excited about surrounding area as one will see "people's park" with the homeless and vagabonds loitering around (which some observers will blame the university for but it's the city's issue which I think the loud liberal students should agree with their quiet conservative co-students to clean it up a bit)... but this review is for the University of Berkeley campus itself. The vibe around campus was nothing more than polite, modest hard working students. Lots of foot traffic. I don't understand the negative reviews about students being "spoiled". It's the opposite from my obervation. I find kids at UCLA more spoiled when I was there. If one were to even compare the materialistic aspect of types of cars driven around different campus one can see who is more "privileged " or "spoiled" by the cars driven at other school campus, as Berkeley students ride bikes, take public transportation and walk everywhere which make it such a peaceful comfortable beautiful environment once on campus. Cal also has produced one of the highest contributing alumnus to be proud of.

This is a school where good ideas go to die. There is no free speech here. Only hate masked as "progressivism."

Any university that ENCOURAGES segregation needs to go back to the 1960s and see what Martin Luther King or Rosa Parks would say. I would assume they now want the back of the bus again too. This is ridiculous and should be met with a resounding NO! Many people fought long hard battles for integration and now you want to take 100 steps BACK????? No educational institution should allow this! This upcoming generation are going to be nothing more than sensitive cupcakes who need coloring books and a "safe space"....MAN UP!!!!!

Their meals suck, I had the nuggets and they ripped cuh. Their bathroom experience was average. UC Berkley is known for their far Left liberal views and their support of anything to stop other points of view. They collude with cops making it hard to host events and suppress the ability of others usually conservatives from speaking. This is a state funded college and they are getting programmed by professors that communism is necassary and that the Left is correct and anyone else must either agree or you must force them to not express their opinion by force. Antifa which is a facist anti facism movement and BLM which is now so violent it often may be mistaken for a terrorist organization like Al Queda considering many BLM members call upon others to shoot cops or start violence. UC Berkeley supports the Facist Antifa movement and they support Black Lives Matter which sometimes is peaceful. However anything with a slight conservative view is not allowed on UC Berkeley campus. I believe UC Berkeley should be defunded, they are not promoting the betterment of lives to students or citizens. They incite violence and hatred and force political views on the students. UC Berkeley doesn't deserve the funds if they aren't allowing students or guests to express themselves. UC Berkeley is an echo chamber of hate and Left wing ideals and they hate the freedom of speech and the majority of US ideals due to their left wing political radicalism

TO ALL OF THE CONSERVATIVES LEAVING NASTY REVIEWS: I am a conservative and I am doing fine as a student here. I just know how to keep my mouth shut and to respect and undertsand other views. You all need to stop complaining about the problems you all started for yourselves by moronically labeling yourselves as conservatives.

As for the school, I am taking summer classes here through EAOP as a high schooler. The level of an education which I am receiving (with the depth and understanding of what I am learning) is beyond exceptional.

I am hoping to be able to attend this college, i am the class of 2021 for high school and this is the school i want to go to for sure, although i know it will be a hard challenge and i will have my setbacks, i will try my hardest to get accepted into this school, the first time i saw this campus i fell in love, its a beautiful campus, even if i don't get accepted after my 2021 graduation, i will still love this school because of how amazing it is, i am an AVID student, we go on lots of college field trips, i hope this college is one of them, so i could have the honor of being on campus again, DO NOT pay attention to the ones who gave a bad rating, they probably just didn't get accepted or haven't even stepped on campus, i definitly would consider applying for this college you wouldn't regret it at all by any chance.

The campus somewhat lies on an incline. Take that into account when scheduling classes. One approach is to schedule classes from one end, and proceed to these other end as the day progresses.

I was really shaken when I saw how bad they oppressed the students at free speech week. It turns out this university has a history of oppressing students and encouraging criminal behavior - especially the fascist antifa. As a Canadian, my heart goes out to those of you who have been silenced by this soulless corporate entity.

Proud to be a UC Berkeley student. The campus is beautiful and diverse in nature, architecture and thought. Definitely explore the campus and the surroundings. Its in a city that stands out in character and takes part of the Bay Area culture.

I enjoyed all of the soap-box preachers, warning of the end of the world; I liked getting to know the bizarre personalities: The hate-man wore women s clothing and randomly yelled obscenities at people. The guy, with a greenhouse in a shopping cart, who spliced plants together to make hybrids. Does this University really need a review? It is all that it is cracked up to be and more. There is no place like Berkeley for individualism, intellectualism, and inspiration. CAL is a good place to get an education too! The City of Berkeley around the campus thrives with local excellence: bookstores, cafes, world class restaurants and simple inexpensive hole in the wall cafes, nightclubs, etc. The university is accessible by over 30 Public Transportation routes, parking can be a bit daunting and/or expensive. Fill you meter, or the maids will catch you and that can be $$$. Check out Telegraph Avenue off Bancroft for the scene of students, hippies, homeless and wannabes. Don't miss the UC Botanical Garden on Centennial, it's a world class collection of plants from all over the globe.

I used to work for UC Berkeley. It was an awesome experience. Boy, these white supremacists leaving bad reviews sure are going to influence smart people to not go there! Do yourselves a favor and worry about yourself.

This university has lost their ability to teach from the very foundation of higher education! Human rights do not exist, neither does the freedom of speech unless it fits the faculty and their addenda!

I graduated 2012 in math and physics and I highly recommend UC Berkeley to anyone who's interested in math or science AND likes a good region. The Bay Area is a special place -- great food, outdoor activities, and general vibe.

It used to be the university of free speech but now is a place of dementia. Protests happen daily carried by a bunch of retarded that hv no respect for who is there to study and actually learn.

My white boyfriend and I were not permitted to cross the bridge together during the blockade. When I chose to walk with him down in the creek, instead of through my people, I was called the equivalent of a race traitor and an oreo, a coconut, and even the name of the woman who helped Cortez overthrow the Aztecs.

Is this the new face of tolerance? If it is, I want none of it. If that makes me a race traitor, so be it.

Absolutely terrible display of "acceptable" racism today. Not only was I barred from parts of campus because I was WHITE but I was also disturbed while studying in our student union building. That's honestly the last straw for me. The Administration refuses to do anything about these disruptions and only caters to non white, non straight, and non binary/ cis gendered people's. While also stepping all over my rights and my education that I'M PAYING FOR. After this semester UC Berkeley has seen the last of me, I'm planning my transfer to The University of Louisville as soon as I can possibly leave. I will not attend this University ever again.

Cal is an extremely unique school in that it has the best academics in the west, is perfectly situated in a one of the largest cultural meccas in the United States, and pushes its students into a brighter future. Never before going to Berkeley had I been part of a community of forward-thinkers. These people aren't trying to get the degree, they're trying to change the world. First class professors, most helpful GSIs, top-preforming undergrads--it's great for any curious student (and yes it is really hard)! The only negative aspect is the slow wifi and administrative red tape, but the students are nothing if not capable, so it's not a problem. If you're visiting, take a campus tour. Cal is California's first university and has a rich history and cool architecture. Afterwards, head to downtown Berk (only a few blocks from campus) to get stellar pizza, hit the bars, or catch the BART into SF. There's never a quiet moment!

It's a sad sight to see Berkley, with the endorsement of staff, support the violent and meaningless protests that have prevented students from focusing on their studies as well as blocking routes to class. Quite the shame.

In popular media, many have attacked Berkeley due to recent riots and protests. These individuals may be shocked to know that student-led protests happen peacefully almost every week for honorable causes as diverse as climate action and justice for the wrongfully incarcerated. Violence has only occurred in a few isolated cases when individuals not affiliated with the university take advantage of the situation to break the law. Ask any current student: the vast majority will condemn this violence, reflecting a campus-wide commitment to free speech and peaceful demonstration.

Looking beyond, I continue to see Berkeley as a beacon of light thanks to the immense amount of research, astounding graduating classes, and impactful campus initiatives that are shaping the world every day. Don't be fooled - UC Berkeley is a gem of academia, and it has truly earned its place as the #1 public university in the world.

University of California at Berkeley is a nice place to visit by the tourists from abroad. Also nice to stay here and learn.

i had the time of my life in Berkeley! go bears!!!!!

I was here from August 2011 till May 2015 for my Applied Mathematics undergrad degree. This is a great university for all STEM related majors. You meet all sorts of people here, and the political scene is pretty active(one major protest every year that makes national news+people talking about issues and taking action in everyday life). Social life tends to revolve around frats if you are under 21, or if it is Cal Day or rush week. Otherwise, you are near SF and Oakland which have better choice of scenes than Berkeley.

People are very tolerant and accepting of your views if you agree with them. The republican club advertises themselves as "the counterculture" and that is a fairly accurate self description. Berkeley is a beautiful city with great views in the trails. I will never forget the time I spent here, and met many lifelong friends.

Disgusted with your university's oppression of free speech. You should be doing more to allow an open forum of discussion on your campus, and you should be publicly shaming those individuals, many who attend your school, who oppress free speech. You should take a hard stance that any student who oppresses free speech of another should be expelled. Your teachers should be instructed to talk in class about the importance of free speech, even when that speech is opposite of their own.

My wife and I went out with Bill for a day if Bay fishing. We could not have found a better guide! Bill is knowledgeable, professional, and patient. We have already planned our next trip out with Bill. Book him and enjoy.
