Cal is an extremely unique school in that it has the best academics in the west, is perfectly situated in a one of the largest cultural meccas in the United States, and pushes its students into a brighter future. Never before going to Berkeley had I been part of a community of forward-thinkers. These people aren't trying to get the degree, they're trying to change the world. First class professors, most helpful GSIs, top-preforming undergrads--it's great for any curious student (and yes it is really hard)! The only negative aspect is the slow wifi and administrative red tape, but the students are nothing if not capable, so it's not a problem. If you're visiting, take a campus tour. Cal is California's first university and has a rich history and cool architecture. Afterwards, head to downtown Berk (only a few blocks from campus) to get stellar pizza, hit the bars, or catch the BART into SF. There's never a quiet moment!
