Natural beauty cared for in a special way, tradition mingled with contemporary folk in a unique and meaningful way, pleasant and friendly local folk who understand why people are drawn to this sacred place

Cool place. Not very big as far as area to drive... kinda one way in, one way out. It costs $20 to get in, but I feel that it's worth it to see the horses and the beach. Its beautiful there... absolutely beautiful. Bring your camera, you're gonna want to take pictures. If you go to Chincoteague Island, you gotta check out the wildlife refuge.

This place is one of the most majestic, beautiful and calming places in the United States!!! Simply amazing, my new favorite place. We saw eagles, sika deer, merlins, wild horses and a multitude of other different wildlife!

One lane was open to pay. People kept getting confused and going to the other lane, clearly looking for direction, but instead were met with a sign about having a pass and no one was enforcing anything so they just drove in.

We waited in line to pay $20, even though military could have gotten a free annual pass. There was no sign and the attendant didn't ask us.

When we got to the lighthouse it was closed. 4:30PM, memorial day weekend (Saturday).

The beach was windy, crowded and everyone's new beach equipment plastic wrappings were blowing all over the place into the bird nesting areas.

Either holidays weekends are overwhelming or they are not very organized at the park.

This trip was extremely underwhelming.

Chincoteague resembles Jurassic Park more than the Eastern shore. We biked to a secluded beach, saw more wildlife than I've seen in the last 5 years combined and climbed a 150 year-old light house. You couldn't ask for a better place to take a family if you love the outdoors

beautiful

What a thrill hiking here in the Chincoteague National Wildlife Reserve! Seeing the horses running free with such a thrill for us! They have really terrific hiking trails. They are very well marked and you can access so much of the park. They have a terrific Wildlife Center down at the end with a lot of information about the island! That also have beach access there. We walked a trail that went to the lighthouse. Trails that went to the wild pony overlook and we were lucky enough to see them! We also enjoyed seeing many bald eagles flying around in that area. The trail is handicapped accessible. One other trail that we took was around the Marsh Trail where we were able to see a lot of birds including Canada Geese, a variety of Ducks as well as other birds. The trail is accessible as well as the platform for the handicapped. We stayed in The Refuge Inn right outside the gates of the park. They have ponies right there that you can go up close and see. It was a wonderful place with nice people that ran it. We definitely will return next time that we go to Chincoteague Island!

Beautiful and peaceful place to visit with family. Wonderful nature trails. Spotlight on the Assateague Lighthouse! And what can I say about the Chincoteague Island Beach!!! Loved it!!!

Beautiful reserve. We stayed in a hotel very close to the entrance and rode our bikes to the beach. It wasn't very crowded due to hurricane Florence barrelling in, but for us the weather held out and we had a great time!

It's beautiful here! The mosquitos were a nightmare though on my trip due to heavy rains prior. Make sure to bring lots of bug spray (the strong stuff!) and take some bite sticks or other itch relief. They bit us right through our clothes.

Serene, we'll maintained and appointed facilities and attractions. The staff, rangers and guides are first class. Birds and wild ponies are displayed in a natural surrounding. Island life and pace are refreshing. Fresh seafood and island favorites await the visitor. Fabulous oyster tacos can be found at the Pico Taqueria. Bill's satisfies with a wonderful surf and turf and equally memorable prime rib. Our waitress stole the show with her pleasant and attentive service. Island Creamery delivers scrumptuous homemade ice cream. NASA Wallops Flight facility boast occasional launches to the ISS if you are fortunate to experience one. The Waterside Inn offers a cozy, comfortable wonderfully maintained diplomat room that provides panoramic water views. Sea birds echo in the breeze as they assert their territory below your private balcony. An assortment of fragrant roses surround this quiet meticulously maintained Inn.

If you love nature, walking trails and Wildlife of the East Coast this is a place for you. We just loved it. Nature is the best namaste. With all the snowy egrets and a plethora of other Shorebirds, squirrels and frogs it was just great.

Ama,ing, beautiful spot! We did some beach time and a lot cycling and really enjoyed how great it was here. Be prepared for LOTS of mosquitoes though. We fought this by keeping ourselves moving on the trails as even heavy use of bug spray didn't seem to slow them down in some parts of the trail.

Natural beach. No vendors or boardwalks. They have lifeguards in certain areas. The beach has narrowed during high tide due to an overwash this spring. They are working on getting it back in shape. Be sure to stop at the Tom's Cove nature center if you have children.
