Excellent museum. Needs a nearby restaurant and more benches to rest for us older folks. It's a huge amount of walking and really needs at least 2 days to see it all. Staying open later in summer would be a good idea.

The largest free museum in the world. What more can you ask for. Full of dream building machines for an up close look and sense of power they invoke. They've added the 4th hangar since I was last there and it is great. Kids can see inside relics of history. If you are in the area and your kids love planes, mechanical thing, history, or if you aren't sure they do, I'd recommend stopping. It's free and well worth it.

Really cool place with lots to see. I wish I had more time to read all the information provided. I am partial to the Cold War era displays, and this place didn t disappoint in that area!
It can be quite a long walk if you end up at the far side of the parking areas, and the layout in general involves a lot of walking, so be prepared for that. It s a fairly linear setup, so once you walk to the end, you have to walk all the way back through to get to the exit.
I would suggest that they add some more options for food/drink, but I m sure they don t want trash scattered everywhere.
Worth the drive if you aren t very close by!

This is always a great experience. There are people everywhere that are thrilled to help guide you and inform you. They truly look forward to answering your questions. They have mobility carts of many different sizes that are available for use free for those who need them. Saved us from hauling my mother's in. They also have wheelchairs in strategic locations to give people access to areas that the mobility carts can not access. It is impossible to see everything in a single visit so if you're driving very far you might want to plan to come a couple days. There are many hotels and restaurants reasonably priced nearby and since the museum is free it's a bargain to a weekend trip.

Simply the best aviation history museum. 4 massive hangars with aircraft grouped by early aviation, WW1, WW2, cold war, missiles, space and presidential aircraft. A must see even for mild aviation enthusiasts!

We are too lucky to have so much history so close to us, for free. I love coming and spending a few hours admiring and reading everything. It's well kept and very professional setting. I have more fun here than places I pay yearly to visit

They even have a new section where you can walk through several old planes including several ex presidents up to JFK'S and Nixon's old Air Force One. Great experience for young and old just don't forget your walking shoes. Its a big place.

Awesome place.. Had a day full of planes.. Presidential gallery has been added as a new 4th hangar.. At 3 P. M. there is a guided tour in 4th hangar.. Don't miss it.. You get to know a lot about various experimental planes and Presidential planes..
My vehicle won't start after the museum hours and while I was waiting for the roadside assistance and I being the last in the parking lot, facility museum manager had come with a great help to get my vehicle started.. Thank you so much!!!

Amazing place and the museum itself is completely free. So many famous aircraft and is set up so neat! It's very dark inside to keep everything in top shape so keep that in mind if you have trouble seeing in dim light. The new hanger is stunning! It has the old Air Force One inside and some amazing spaceships! Plan to spend the day there if it's something you have any interest in. Is a great place to take young kids on a rainy day to get out of the house and is free so hust stopping in is no big deal. Love this place.

What can I say? The place is a jewel.

What can I say? The place is a jewel.
Ideally, you need a couple of days for the place. Ideally for me, I'd be locked in there overnight for about a week with the place to myself. Ain't gonna happen, so I'll content myself with the trip I've taken at least once every year of my adult life.
Gape in awe at the big planes or smile over the little exhibits tucked into the corners, you get a good appreciation for the role of flight in world politics and everyday life -- and the lives of the men and women who make the planes go.
I make it a point to visit the museum at least once a year; there's always something different. Some of the exhibits I remember from my childhood and are getting a little dusty and a few of the little dioramas could stand some repair (I wish someone would re-hang the little model plane in the window diorama devoted to the high-altitude flight experiment at McCook Field), but the last few years have seen considerable attention paid to "humanizing" the exhibits -- and the history comes alive in the details.
The "crashed" training plane in the early-flight hangar, with the instructor mannequin chewing out the student mannequin and the exasperated ground crew mannequins getting ready to fix the plane *again* -- that's a perennial favorite of mine.
The Berlin Wall and Berlin Airlift exhibits (complete with cartoons by USAF Sgt. Jake Schuffert, from the Dayton area) are moving, as is the concentration camp liberation exhibit.
The Kettering model plane collection is also a fond memory about which I discover something new every year (the collection ends in the late 1960s but you still boggle at the incredible variety of aircraft represented in those jewel-like models --- but please, someone, the Pan Am 747 model needs some TLC).
Oh yeah, plenty of big planes and rockets there, and I eagerly await the Museum's Space Shuttle exhibit built around the Crew Compartment Trainer; it ought to be incredible. That the Museum was denied a retired shuttle, specifically the Atlantis, is a crime. The planned fourth hangar ought to be great, too; finally, no rickety bus ride through the security areas to see the Presidential and experimental planes.
The AF Museum is a grand place on a grand scale, and there's much to learn simply gawping at the big planes, but for all its size, the Museum rewards those who take the time to look in the corners. If you have the time to do that, do it.

An excellent museum in the heart of the birth place of aviation! Would love to see a P-38 and a Wright B Flyer replica here. The volunteers are very helpful and friendly. Open every day except Christmas with 10-5 hours. Have been here several times and will return time and time again!

This should be the top attraction on anyone s list of things to do and see when in southwest Ohio. Take a journey from the first attempts at manned flight through today s most sophisticated manned and unmanned aircraft and space technologies. There s even an AF attempt at making a Flying Saucer on display.

The staff are mostly volunteers and thus very willing to help as they are doing this because they have a passion for the museum and USAF history.

This is a great place for children to see our past and discover the future. Several aircraft are open for internal viewing and there are some open simulator cockpits anyone can get into and pretend they are flying a fighter.

Make sure to have time to see both the memorial gardens and 8th AF displays outside.

If you are a military, history, or aviation buff, this place is a must see!! You need at least four or five hours to fully appreciate the exhibits. In the hangars are aircraft such as The Memphis Belle, a B52 bomber, a B1 bomber, a B2 bomber, fighter jets. These are full size aircraft not models. An amazing place.

We Dayton natives take this place for granted. My 6 year old son had more fun than he anticipated, we spent several hours and didn't come close to seeing everything. He wants to know when we can go again! Not only was it amazing to see some history, learn a thing or two, but it's also FREE!

Seems I come here every year and there is something different every time. Several iconic aircraft or replicas of iconic aircraft from history. Can easily spend over an hour in each hangar (there's 4 plus a missile silo plus some outdoor statics). Wright Model A, B-29 Bockscar, B-17 Memphis Belle, SR-79, F-22, even some Migs and Messerschmitts. If you wanted to see a specific military aircraft, chances are, it's here. Will be back again soon.

Really fun place to go. I would suggest it for any type of outing. You get to walk around and see all of the different planes. There's also seating pretty much everywhere if you need to take a break. They also provide electronic scooters and wheelchairs for those who need it.

Excellent museum with so many exhibits you would need literally a week+ to see them all. Price is free bit there is a security checkpoint. They will make you take your pocket knife back to your car if they find it. The two cafes are convenient but nothing to really write home about.

Free admission for everyone. The museum consists of four airplane hangars, so it takes awhile to go through. There are interactive areas for kids to keep them entertained as well. Lots of old restored war planes, planes you can walk through and lots of information. I am always amazed at the amount of real, used planes there are at this museum. They have the presidential planes that some of the past presidents used as their private jets, and you can walk through all of them.

Everything was so cool. Had a lot of fun. They had the Memphis Belle, which is amazing, but they had to adjust their WWII section and hid the P-51 behind other planes so it was too hard to see

I asked where was an F-14 and they kindly reminded me that was a Navy bird. But, this place is simply amazing. My only complaint is the lighting does not lend itself to photography in the hanger with the bomber, but the ambiance in that hanger is great. I really enjoyed my visit.
