Found Tulfarris Hotel because we would be in Killa...

Found Tulfarris Hotel because we would be in Killarney during the day, and flying out of Dublin the following day, and needed a place to stay closer to Dublin, for an easy trip into the airport. Reviews were good, and pictures were nice.

I do not recommend it.

The only reason I gave it a second star is because it's currently (Early June 2019) under construction, and it might improve when that is complete.

I don't golf, so my impressions are only of the hotel. The room has nice features, like a mini fridge and towel warmer. Up on the first floor there was a nice porch, but it had no furniture on it to enjoy it. More concerning, the door didn't lock, but since it was the first thing we noticed, it didn't seem worth reporting, as we were only staying one night.

The service in the bar on the main floor - the only place still seating for food when we arrived - was slow and overall poor. Maybe it would have been better if we sat at the bar instead of a table.

I slept well, but usually do. Sounds from the hall or outdoors easily came in the room, but thankfully they were rare overnight. The "king" bed was two smaller beds covered in King sheets, and we could feel the divide between them.

The next morning we woke up to find bugs crawling on the curtain and from under the bed. The drain in the shower drained very slowly, so we showered with water on for only a minute or two as to not flood the bathroom.

At checkout, the staff that had been friendly and accommodating seemed to be overwhelmed by complaints. While waiting I overheard another guest saying her toilet wouldn't flush, and another guest had some other problem the night before. No offer was made to make up for the inconvenience, and I also was only given a half-hearted apology when I brought up the issues at checkout.

Another minor issue, WiFi in our room at the end of the hall was spotty at best.

Neither when booking, nor when checking in, were we informed that there was construction happening. While it wasn't noisy, it did impact our stay. It's too bad this was the last place we stayed on vacation, it tainted an otherwise great trip.

The food was good. The service was very slow and the Resturant was left without a staff member in attendance for long periods of time.

We had to ask for the drinks menu when the waiting staff came to take our food order.

We know the young server was a trainee which was fine but there was no mentor in sight to oversee or train the staff member who was left alone to look after the resturant for most of our dinner.

I felt sorry for the trainee who was obviously trying her best.

Good if you like golf. We went for the lakes and they weren't visible from the grounds. Reception gave us the key to a room that was still occupied...thankfully no one was getting changed at the time.... their only
compensation was two glasses of bubbly which we should have received anyway for booking directly....

From check in to check out fantastic. Brilliant staff a special mention for Melissa and Sharon who were both extremely helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much for them. Food again was amazing it's not my first time staying/eating here and again did not disappoint. I would highly recommend Tullfarris for the food and hospitality. Hope to see you all very soon. There are two sides to this review. On the positive side, the venue is beautiful. The golf course is superbly maintained, lots of water features and sand, beautiful fairways and views, immaculate greens. it was a pleasure to play on such a course. If you are going for the golf, you will be very happy. The hotel is a different matter. The rooms in the main building are very comfortable - well furnished and equipped - make sure you are staying in the main building. The bar and restaurant are badly organised and managed. The breakfast was atrocious - the staff in the breakfast room are unmanaged and untrained. They are focused on clearing tables but totally ignore guests, run out of plates, bowls, bread, food, etc. Very frustrating and sad to see. Similar story in the bar. They were focused on clearing tables, filling and emptying dish-washers, restocking the bar, preparing for the morning. The customers were in the way. The decor in the restaurant, and to a lesser extent in the bar, is sad. While there is a beautiful view of the golf course during the day, there is a complete lack of atmosphere or style. There isn't a single picture or piece of colour in the restaurant. Its more like a patish hall than a restaurant. So sad to see this beautiful venue so badly managed. A visit from the Brennan brothers is urgently needed.

We decided to go for a night to test the situation after covid. From the moment we arrived to our departure next day everything was spot on despite the restrictions. The issues were explained calmly and clearly and didn't interfere with our stay. Food for dinner and breakfast was plentiful and excellent. No issue with room. Only problem we had was weather inclement and didn't allow us avail of The wonderful scenery.

Gorgeous. Staff amazing. Friendly and professional. Attended a Hunt Ball in the Manor House and stayed overnight. Food was excellent. About 140 people attended the ball and service at tables was respectful and super efficient. Breakfast was delicious and complimentary Sunday paper a treat. Views over golf course on a bright ,crisp morning topped of the experience perfectly.

Beautiful place & gardens ,hotel itself was clean and the rooms very comfortable and spacious. Only problem there was no Irish Mist on sale in the wedding venue, asked could they bring it down from the main hotel but never happened. The only tipple I enjoy, my husband had to walk all the way back to the main hotel to get it for me. So the only one that deserves 5 stars is him.

The meticulously presented entrance and golfing greens in The Tulfarris Hotel, greet you on arrival.
The foyer of the hotel has beautiful velvet chairs and sofa's. The Hotel has been renovated or refurbished over the last number of years.
The staff are warm, courteous, friendly and efficient throughout this Hotel. Our bedroom felt brand new and spotless, sporting a luxurious velvet headboard, large flat screen TV on the wall and an opulent bathroom.
We were on a Pigsback deal that included a main course in the bar on the first evening of our two night stay. The tables were sufficiently social distanced for our comfort and the fish we had was divine.
We ate in the very beautiful upstairs restaurant with a panoramic view of the golf course on the second evening and for breakfast both mornings. . The food was amazing. It's the most delicious meal I have eaten in a very long time and my sister also enjoyed a superb meal. Our compliments to the female chef. Superb.
As we are just out of lockdown, the bedroom had a sanitised sticker on the door, fresh towels were left outside our room for us on the second day and no one enters your room until you leave.
The only things we missed were some small body or hand creams and a biscuit or two for our cuppa, but in these Covid 19 times this is our new normal. There are sealed paper cups, and tea /coffee available.
A fabulous stay that I would highly recommend and there are wonderful walking and golfing possibilities in the Hotel and area.
Thank you all in Tulfarris, our stay left a wonderful taste in our mouths. We will return.
Congrats on the standard you have achieved.
Best wishes
Tricia Sheehan 22nd July 2020

Second visit to tulfarris for for golf and one night stopover, course was in very good condition considering the amount of rain recently, the views around the course of the surrounding countryside and lakes are great. Had a 3 course meal in the restaurant as part of our deal in the evening and it was excellent our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable, the room for the night was very spacious and clean a few wee fixtures in the bathroom could have been seen too but that's being ultra fussy, breakfast in the morning was your usual self-service type buffet and the serving staff where very pleasant (bringing tea, coffee and poached eggs/ fried eggs not in the buffet section) overall it was a nice wee break would highly recommend to any golf addicts or otherwise, will be back again!

I have stayed in a number of 4 star hotels in Ireland and Tulfarris is my personnel favourite, even though there is no pool, there is a beautiful walk around the hotel grounds, and we went to Blessington Lakes on the way home. We got Married here in 2017 and have been back twice since for our anniversaries. The hotel has just been revamped, the rooms are modern and spotless. The hotel was compliant with COVID guidelines and we felt safe. The food was delish, staff friendly.

Fabulous hotel in a great location overlooking the blessengton lakes. We were there recently for a wedding and it had just reopened after renovations and the place just looked great. The rooms were large and comfortable and reception staff were so helpful and welcoming.
The wedding itself was over in the conference centre which was so prettily decorated for the event. With fairy lights and lanterns all lit in the courtyard at nightime , it really made for a magical wedding. I'd highly recommend for a weekend away or event.

We had a meeting here last week and the meeting room was freezing. The heating was put on full so we could not hear the speakers over the fan noise. Lunch was nice but some tables were left with their main plate for a long time before veg and potatoes were served. Staff were pleasant and the scones upon arrival were nice and warm unlike the room!

Beautifully located resort but could do with some modernisation. Bedrooms are spacious and classy but bathroom could definitely have been cleaner. Really enjoyed the Lime Tree Restaurant for food. Overall an enjoyable and good value stay but not quite 4* standard.

The hotel itself was beautiful, we had lunch, dinner and breakfast here and honestly I could not fault the food or the service. Lunch in the bar was great but dinner in the Lime Tree restaurant was nothing but excellent.
We did have a bit of an issue with hot water in the shower i.e there was none. The staff were amazing when this was reported.
We will be returning though as the the staff and food are just excellent.

Stayed for 6 nights with family (3 kids). Booked a deluxe family room but was given a twin room instead on arrival which was resolved upon enquiring. Much more spacious room given however, toilet seat was crooked and did not flush very well. Breakfast service was good at times only, Have you booked for breakfast? Instead of, good morning and room number, then check for booking. Had booked breakfast for the duration of our stay btw. Room service available on request only because of Covid-19 regulations. Golf enquiry; Do you play golf? Would prefer if you could get me interested. Have played Golf and understand the sport very well. Generally staff tried to be friendly but something just did not make us feel very welcome.
