Recently resigned Therapist at Hastings Academy. There is a Severe staff shortage of YOUTH CARE WORKERS (YCW)( security for the juvenile attendee's). Somuch so that they are made to work 16hr shifts at a starting rate of $10 to $11hr. They are so short staffed that Therapist and Case Managers we're required to work two days a week for 2hrs as security (YCW). They need to increase the pay for YCW staff. Needless to say there's a very high turnover rate for YCW staff.
Many of their programs are not being renewed or are being closed by the state. In this field, treating your staff right with respect, support and compensation is a precondition for meeting the needs of juveniles.
This place lake academy is not the place to work for low on staff you get no lunch break .staff would stay and come to work if the pay was high. but for 10.00 dollars for what work we do it s not worth it at all especially work with mental health kids lake is the lowest paying facility and need to be the highest to deal with what we deal with. But if the pay is up like 12.00 u have to work 16 hour shift and have mandate days because of the turn over for staff . I will stay but currently looking for something else If they raise the pay I wouldn t mind
I am a parent of a child who has been incarcerated in Tampa for the past 10 months. He is a teen diagnosed with ASD and co-existing mental health disorders, who was making terrible choices and needed to be redirected. The treatment he has received under the care of Dr. B, Mr. C, Mr. B, Ms. K, Pastor and Ms. N (and others who I don't know their names but are very important) has given him the tools be a productive part of society and to manage his mental illness in different and positive ways.
He was able to get his GED, which he credits completely to Ms. Y!
The treatment teams and staff have very difficult jobs and certainly are undercompensated, but the devotion and care they provide the boys in their custody is important and appreciated!!
You may not be able to change the world but for the boys you help, their world is surely changed!
Extremely poor recruitment staff. This place is a revolving door.
