Tree of Life Counseling Review

Myself and a family member love this team. They work together like a family and welcome you into their world. They want nothing but the BEST for their clients. I've seen a lot of therapists, but none that see me as a person with issues that I need help with..... they've seen me as clients who need to be diagmosed..... And of course they (TLC team) are diagnosing me, but I don't feel like a patient!!

I have been seeing my therapist Tamesha (Who is a FANTASTIC woman) for 8 months and less than 2 hours before my appointment I got an email saying it was canceled and all future appointments with Tamesha were canceled and that I should see a new therapist. No explanation of any kind.

Also they filed my insurance claim wrong and charged me nearly $500 without my consent.

Update: After posting on Facebook I finally got a response

Update 2: I have proof that Tamesha was aware that I was not going to take down all the posts. She also informed me that the admin was given instructions to inform me 5 days prior to my appointment with the reasoning. I recieved the email less than two hours prior to my appointment and when I called they lied and said they didn't know why.

Know what is going on in your own office and fix that instead of blaming your clients.

All of the folks over at Tree of Life that I have interacted with have been wonderful. I see Will, and our work together has been very helpful. It has a very welcoming atmosphere.

For the first time, my daughter asked for help with her anxiety. We had seen Shana once before and my daughter asked if she could see her again. (She has been reluctant to have therapy so this was a big deal). My daughter left crying after a 20 minute session with Shana, because she said, I thought Shana would at least talk to me. We are completely heartbroken.
Shana gave her a half piece of paper with apps or websites or something. I paid $80 out of pocket for 20 minutes! I emailed TLC, which is a waste of time, because all you ll hear are excuses. For example, I m sure the owner (whoever that is) will respond to my review and totally invalidate what happened to us.
I m a social worker. Just don t go to this place.

As the season of reflection and gratitude for gifts comes around, I find myself amazed that Tree of Life has been a part of our lives for more than 3 years now. I am happy where I am in my career, in my relationship, and in my life. I am so thankful for the support my husband and I have received from our therapist, Will Krause. He has consistently offered insights that are both relevant and unbiased between my husband and I. He has offered real life strategies for dealing with work stress, health issues, and family drama. It is guaranteed that my husband and I would not be where we are now if it were not for Will s strong and yet gentle guidance. We are thankful for you!

I have been seeing Lydia Long for over a year. As someone who has had multiple therapists over the years I can say with confidence that she is the most caring and helpful person I have ever seen. She has brought me through multiple seasons of my life and has given me the tools to continue to advocate for my mental health. I honestly look forward to our sessions. She took my strengths and used them to help me confront my weaknesses. I would recommend her over and over again.

A+ This is a amazing, professional, and a diverse organization which is much needed in Greensboro. I am fighting Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma. Of course, I have anxiety issues. TLC and has been a lifeline for me in dealing with the day to day anxiety issues related to being sick, having two brain surgeries and being told you had 120 days to live. You would not be normal if you did not have anxiety with that diagnosis. This is a very talented team of professionals! Thank God for these fine folks and their true passion to help people. They have taught me to live - and to stop thinking about dying!

TLC saved me in many ways. They offer a variety of counseling services and resources that really help you reach your goals. They are very LGBTQ+ friendly. I highly recommend them.

As someone who's been to Tree of Life Counseling, I'm certain that the 1 star review must have been an error. The atmosphere is tranquil, inviting, and counseling services at Tree of Life are the best out there. Highly Recommend!

I absolutely love this place. From the first time I spoke with someone to schedule my first appointment to now, I feel very welcomed and comfortable. I love the Dr. they paired me with based on my needs and couldn t be more pleased with the process and the services provided.

"Cancelled my cancellation".... right. How much stuff do you come up with to try and make it seem like the patient's fault? You all stated you had never gotten any emails or calls from me, then once I post proof of my emails that were an attempt - you say this. Why didn't you tell me that in the first place? Why is there no one directly to contact about this? You just sign your emails "the billing department" and don't give any other number to contact.

It seems as if you'll do anything to hold on to the money you steal from your patients. Keep falsifying your statements to try and make a former patient look like the bad guy!

To everyone else, seriously, these people are frauds. Go elsewhere.

Absolutely love this place. They're so helpful and passionate about helping everyone they see. They're inclusive and thoughtful about representation! Very very friendly for LGBT+ folx.

I have been going here for 10- 12 months and I can so happily say Being there with Will has saved my life, I now see at least a light at the end of this loss and a lifetime of tragedy. He has given me hope - info to look up and read and understand why I have not been able to cope, I am a so much better person and for the first time in 50 years can say with him and his not giving up on me I have felt happy and finding a Peace within me. I am learning to like the women I am. Thank you to the Tree of Life for all the support and no judgements never! If I could tell anyone that has suffered pain and loss and loss of self call go to this place, you will find the way to move in a New Direction as Will has helped me see. I have another way of living and I am learning to live it.

I had been coming to TLC for about a year. I loved Lydia, my therapist. She has helped me through some very difficult times.

Unfortunately, the administrative office is another story. I understand there are guidelines of having to cancel through the patient portal. I had tried to cancel my last appointment and had waited for it to be "approved". My appointment was for Tuesday, June 9th. I had tried to cancel it on the Sunday night before via portal. I tried to call and call on that Monday morning as well. They also never specified if I were to meet Lydia in person or at the office, since my last appointment had been virtual.

After many attempts in contacting them, they still charged me the $100. I even went to their office to try to talk to someone. They said if I wanted to wait I could, or if I wanted to come back at 4:30 PM before they closed, someone would be there. I went back and no one was there besides a therapist who was not mine - so the office girl, Liz, had lied. She also said I would be receiving a call from the office administrator - which I didn't - I just received passive aggressive emails.

Whoever the "billing department is" (they never would sign a name) tried to accuse me of lying when I have multiple receipts of attempting to contact the office by phone and email, AND attempting to contact my therapist via email.

For a place that is supposed to be a safe space - accusing one of your patients of lying is VERY messed up.

My appointment before my "missed" one - I had even attempted to contact them to make sure they had the right billing information because I wanted to make sure they got paid!

But they still steal your money! And then accuse you of lying!

I've notice on the bad reviews, they attempt to make the person leaving the review look bad. So here are my receipts to prove them wrong.

Don't give this place your business. They don't actually care about you. At least the "billing department" doesn't.

I've filed a complaint to the NCMB and have been in contact with a lawyer since they like to steal from college students and then shift the blame. Shame on you people.

I really like TLC and but I am sad that I came for Counseling last week and they said my insurance e changed and I have to pay $80 out of pocket but I wasn t even informed before.. I can not afford this as I m a college student and before my co-pay was $5..so I basically wasted my time going there..it was quite embarrassing for me. Thank you but I won t be coming back again...

Amazing staff! They are very helpful, kind and knowledgeable. The choice of providers and the ability to do in office or telehealth is a huge plus! I highly recommend!!

To say that Tamesha Rhyne is an amazing Therapist is an understatement. She is professional, well-informed, honest, and passionate about what she does. It is evident she takes her craft seriously and makes you feel seen in each session. As a clinician myself, I had high expectations coming in and she exceeded them. I look forward to our sessions each time. I can't sing her praises enough. She has been instrumental in the shift that has occurred in my life and I, as well as the people in my life that have to deal with me :) , are most grateful for her. I HIGHLY recommend Tamesha Rhyne a.k.a. Doctor Rhyne!

TLC is such a wonderful resource to our community. Will is an amazing therapist, and the entire staff is friendly, empathetic, and knowledgable. I highly recommend Tree of Life.

I have went to TLC both individually and as a couple. This is hands down the best place to receive help and guidance! I do believe that some people just don't mesh with other's so the negative reviews regarding individual counselors is crazy to me. If one person doesn't meet your needs, they have tons of others to choose from! Tayler and David are great! My only "complaint" is that they (the admin office staff) are nearly impossible to reach. I never get to speak to someone when I call because they do not answer their phones. I have chosen to email instead, which is slightly an inconvenience when you want/need an answer right then, because it still takes a couple days to get a response. However, you also have to remember that just because your counselor is seeing you at 6 or 7 PM, the office itself is not open. Overall, I love this place and have had great experiences!

I always hated therapy growing up. I never trusted anyone or felt comfortable talking until I met dawn here. Shes awesome, she listens to me and works with me as well as giving me great advice. Sometimes it helps to just let it all out and have a 3rd unbiased party listen and give input and that's exactly what she let's me do as well as recommended great people to see and further help with the things she cannot. She makes me feel comfortable and welcome.

My therapist saved my life, that's the long and short of it! After working with several other places I found TLC and they really helped me. The compassion and service are outstanding, and I highly recommend TLC to anyone seeking serious professional help!

Impossible to get in contact with. I m a returning patient and I haven t been able to reach anyone at the clinic by phone or email. Too many times they have charged me with a no-show fee when it was in fact my therapist who no-showed. That therapist then left the clinic without even telling me. TLC uses niche marketing and an LGBT-themed atmosphere to appeal to young people they can take advantage of. I can t recommend it to anyone. Please recommend a good mental health clinic in Greensboro if you know of one.

This place has been a Godsend for my son. This is the first place he absolutely feels comfortable and at peace. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff is amazing! As far as the financial components, everything is told to you upfront about missed appts and charges so I don t understand the complaints. Anytime I have contacted admin with questions via email I have always gotten prompt responses.

One star mainly because of being gaslit into taking my review down two years ago . Also because they violated HIPAA while I was attending counseling here. I m not upset just concerned as to why my personal experience with these people is that they can t take constructive criticism...

UPDATE: Read their response as proof of their gaslighting. I know what happened. I am not stupid nor does it need to be stated that I m putting my medical information out there... I heard the same speech when they called me directly after I wrote my last review 2 years ago.

I have finally realized that I need someone, UN-biased (the ESSENTIAL word here), to allow myself to speak freely and openly as possible about whatever struggles, thoughts, etc. might be bothering me A dear friend recommended Tree of Life Therapy and I couldn't be happier with the assigned therapist I've been placed with OR the quality of the building, especially inside: the waiting room offers coffee, water and a variety of hot tea while one waits in the tranquil atmosphere which helps ease any anxiety. Also welcome are those who fall into the LGBTQIA "label" (such as myself) with open arms; ToL is also registered as a "safe place".

The first visit is simply the patient and assigned therapist getting to know a bit about the other, but mainly to ensure that the informal relationship that may eventually develop between the two, a) will leave the patient feeling they got what they came for while also b) leaving the therapist in a positive place as well. If either one feels unhappy or closed down while in the other's company, the secretaries will happily assign someone new until a good fit is found. I overwhelmingly adore my therapist because I can be 100% open and there is never any afterthought of judgment. I ALWAYS leave with smile and a weight lifted and it always feels like I've simply been talking with a friend who knows exactly when I just need to vent or if I may need input. NOT saying this place is for everyone, but it sure beats lying on a couch with an uppity therapist behind you, never uttering a word with one leaving probably worse than before the appt. I love Tree of Life!!!

They were a fit for me and changed my idea of going to "therapy". I'm glad I reached out and haven't looked back since!

Tree of Life Counseling gives the best services there are around for the Trans community. They offer a wide variety in speciality in other mental health issues. Being in the community myself, has made it easier to refer others to her for a vast variety of services. These services are community oriented in being a close knit family of professionals that want to help. Myself, as president of the organization above would recommend this practice to anybody. You are always welcomed when you are there and the atmosphere is very peaceful and wholesome. I hope that everybody can experience the great rewards I have experienced and help that I have gotten while being seen here.

Great practice. Helpful staff and counselors. COVID-19 has made us all stressed. They have helped so much. The place to go to help navigate your mental health needs. I recommended!!

I have worked with several of the therapists here and can give nothing other than glowing reviews. It is the most welcoming, relaxing office space I have ever been in - wants to make you spend more time there. And I love having access to therapists with such a wide range of expertise and approaches all in one place.

Tamesha is amazing! She is super relatable and very knowledgeable. An outstanding couples counselor. She is definitely helping me and my fiance understand each other better and to be able to work through our issues. We appreciate her!

Reply to reply 3/15/19: I've been in consistent contact with manager by email. This is another way of invalidating concerns and giving patients the brush-off when unethical billing practices are revealed. Will be contacting NC Medical Board over this as TLC's grievance procedure has no outside oversight.

Welcoming atmosphere. Wonderful counselors. Ethically questionable billing practices. Your credit card is photocopied and kept in your file on your first visit (privacy/security issue). If you use Employee Assistance Program Benefits on insurance, you will never be informed when they expire or all sessions granted by benefits are used in full. Your credit card will be automatically charged weeks, sometimes months later without your prior knowledge or being sent an actual bill. Practice manager claims this is your responsibility to keep track...It should be their responsibility to give a heads-up when they charge your card (prior authorization, signature). Will not return to the practice because of this.

I began my process with TLC at the end of July. I completed my registration, my insurance was put on file as well as a debit card. After they approved my method of payment I went 3 WEEKS with no form of communication from this practice. No email. No phone call. I had to call them. I spoke with Alex who resent the email for me to be able to access the patient portal to set an appointment. I followed the link to another dead end. My information was not valid, I couldn t not set up a new password or login, and yet again I could set an appointment. I called and spoke with Alex yet again the solution was to reset my password. However, at this point I would much rather prefer and recommend another practice. As a mental health professional, I cannot fathom recommending a practice with such subpar business practices.

The help I received through this place was phenomenal to say the least. David was an exceptionally helpful and wise person that guided me & gave me information that has helped change my life for the overall better. Could not recommened this place enough after all that he did for me. Thank you to him personally as well as the overall establishment. I ll be forever grateful

Awesome experience .... therapist were great. I see two here and they have helped me and push me . I would recommend this place to anybody.

I m very thankful for Jade, what she has shown and helped me with. I ve been dealing with counselors, psychiatrists, therapists, and mental health issues most of my life. There has been absolutely nobody else that has helped me to progress positively. There is no comparison. Hands down most compassionate, caring and genuine person in the mental health field. Thank you so very much. I ve never felt so inspired, to keep going, to spiral out.

Simply put, they will steal your money! All might be fine until you find that you have to cancel your appointment. Then nothing but crickets! No reply from your therapist, no reply from the office, either by phone or email!

Best just to stay away. Stay far, far away!

Update - They have responded that I am not nor have I ever been a patient of this practice. That is correct! However, I am a relative of a patient (or better said a former patient) who still has not heard a word from them regarding a dispute over a cancelled appointment for which they were charged even though sufficient notice was given.

This place is a Godsend, and especially David. My son has been to multiple counselors over the years, some of them that I took him to, and then as he got older there were ones he chose himself, but none of them helped. Then a friend recommended David to him, and said that David had changed her life, so he agreed to give counseling one more try. I'm so glad he did!! He is like a new person (a happy person!) after 8 months of counseling with David, and I just can't praise this place, and David, enough!! If you're at your wits end muster up the courage to give it one more try and call this place and ask to see David. I think you'll be glad you did!

The wonderful staff at TLC has beeneen an extremely crucial part of my life for the past four or five years. From the second you walk through the doors, you realize that you are no longer outside in this cruel and hateful world. The environment is incredibly inviting, and the reception staff..... I cannot even start on them...

I'm not going to get too far into my reasonings for needing TLC in my life, as I know that everybody's story varies. But long and two short, I started receiving counseling at TLC about two years after traumatic brain injury.

I'm going to stop now before I ramble on for hours, but all I can say is that Shana, Dawn, Chris, every single solitary person at this establishment is absolutely incredible at their profession.
