After a recent stay accidentally leaving a couple of items of clothing in a wardrobe...4 phone calls asking to check lost property and never hear anything back... very disappointing that customer service doesn't continue once you leave the building :(

Nice place and lovely afternoon tea. Service was dismal. The girl serving had absolutely no personality, never greeted or smiled at any of us or asked us if everything was okay
okay or if we needed anything else.
We won't be going there again. Shame because the place and grounds are beautiful.

Stayed here four times now and can't believe how wonderful it is! If you want pure decadence with plush rooms, wonderful decor and an AMAZING spa just next door then you're in for a treat! We stumbled upon this wonderful place just before Christmas and keep thinking of excuses to go back! :)

When I stayed here, there were lots of cobwebs around the light fittings. The door on the wardrobe was hanging off! The restaurant food is very tasty. Breakfast was a bit of a letdown. Several items not available and served by two very young girls. The leisure facilities are excellent and immaculately clean.

This is one of the very few 'luxury' hotels in Anglesey, so how you react to it will be determined by whether you are 'Mr Picky' or 'Mr Easy Going'. If you are Mr Picky, you will say that the sort of money you are going to pay for this hotel would get you a good 4 star hotel in almost any major city of the UK, so you would expect this hotel to match up to the standards those hotels set. Well, for a start, you won't get aircon, or even a little fridge in your room, but you will at least get a security safe (although ours didn't work). You will get the daily maid service, but if it's anything like ours was, that just means pulling the duvet up over the sheets - our bed was never actually made. A jug of milk we requested on the first day, was still in our bedroom on the fourth day - but its contents had turned to cheese. A box of tissues on the bedside table had just one tissue in it, which we immediately used, only to have to wait 2 further days for the box to be re-filled. You'll get waiter service at breakfast from the excellent Hugo on a good day, but on a bad day you will have to put up with a waitress who lets all the plates pile up on your table, then (I kid you not) collects them at the same time as she is texting on her iPhone. The chef will cook you a breakfast kipper to perfection, but will somehow fail to cook a poached egg properly. Or, you'll get toast that doesn't look like it's actually been anywhere near a toaster one day, followed by perfect toast the next day. On a good day, the (free) Wi-Fi will work, but on a bad day it will refuse to connect and you'll have to be given a new password. And so it will go on. But if you take the 'Mr Easy Going' attitude, you will say that all these things are not the end of the world and actually add to the character of what is already a 'characterful' hotel, with creaking floors and squeaky doors to match. The fact that the lighting in the en-suite is automatic and therefore stays on for 10 minutes after you leave the bathroom (illuminating the whole bedroom for 10 minutes, if you need to use the loo in the night) won't bother you and you'll say it's all 'a bit of a laugh'. Mr Easy Going will comment on the lovely grounds and the excellent Tina on the front desk and will say that the location is so central, it's brilliant. So are you going to be Mr Picky, or Mr Easy Going? For me, Mr Easy Going won the day - but it was a pretty close thing!

Expensive, very mixed meals (and food hygiene only 3/5), service poor and reception staff unhelpful at check in - the spa is lovely but was told on arrival I should have pre booked treatments as they need advanced warning despite being a resident of the hotel and not being told this when we booked. I wouldn't return.

Needs a little redecoration but a very pleasant place. Restaurants good. We did have an issue with housekeeping not doing their job as well as you would expect for this level of hotel. I have dropped 1 star because of it.

On a positive note the food was good. We ate in the restaurant one night and were more than happy. Same with breakfast.
The real let down was how tired the room was. Paper peeled off the walls, mould was in the bathroom. The shower leaked. The beautiful antique wardrobe needed some attention on the hinges.
Room service was poor.
Twice our complimentary water had not been refilled.
There were no bathrobes so I had to ask for those. The toilet cistern top was dirty. The shower gel was almost empty through our whole stay.

Loved the room, very special. Main issues were, no blind on the ensuite. That meant using the bathroom very awkward with adjoining windows overlooking. There was a smell in the bathroom from the drains. I did complain about these issues straight away but no remedy was found.

The last one, was the mattress is too shallow for the bed. This resulted in being uncomfortable when getting in and out of bed. Your legs would have to rest on the frame instead of mattress. This was room 1.

I would stay there again but hope these issues were sorted.

Wonderful old building, great room service food, very nice service with the exception of the reception ladies (borderline polite). Huge rooms with four poster bed, , modern bathroom, nice amenities. Probably not suitable for wheelchair chairs, no elevator and too much gravel in the front yard

I went to a class in the spa tonight but it was sadly cancelled. My friend and I asked if we could go to the bar for a coffee and were Told yes. When we got to the main reception we were met with a Very frosty gentleman who told us there was no coffee and couldn't go in the bar as we were not residents. Not quite what we expected.

While the staff were absolutely lovely, there were a few issues, the room was huge, four poster bed, but so cold! The bathroom full of bugs, it was quite dirty. The food we had there was beautiful, but the breakfast was awful, the bill we received in the morning was quite a shock, I'm not sure how they can justify charging so much. And don't order room service! Unless you want a stale sandwich!

Found the hotel on the internet so booked online. From the time we arrived the whole experience was first class. Front staff were very welcoming and the same treatment followed throughout our two night stay. Breakfast was also first class, top service with nothing being too much trouble. Scrambled eggs and salmon first morning which was beautiful. Next morning some friendly guests we met recommended the full English which we gave a try, superb.

Extensive off road safe parking.
Excellent food.
Lovely bedrooms.
Very friendly staff.
Magnificent grounds.
Outstanding value.

If I had to find one negative comment, it would the lack of a lift. But saying that they do have ground floor bedrooms for people who would struggle with stairs. If you are thinking of staying in the area I would highly recommend this hotel.

Thank you for looking after us so well.

Beautiful setting , but had to wait hours for an expensive cuppa and after taking 2 sips I was asked to leave as table was needed to prepare for a wedding . No facilities to obtain cash and restrictions for use of Credit card . Had to buy large bottle of water (don't sell small) with instructions to be returned before 5.30 pm. Staff were pleasant and helpful .

March 2016: I booked the hotel because it has pool. It turns out the pool cannot be used by anyone under six. We were traveling with a two year old. I had checked the webpage with the pool information before booking and it only says:

Restrictions: Children and teenagers from 6 to 16 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times and can only use the Swimming Pool between the hours of 9 & 11 am and 3 and 5 pm.

All of the draft lagers in the bar were of poor quality and totally flat on the Friday evening of our stay. After trying three separate pints eventually has to settle for bottled beer instead.

We complained to a manager in about this in the evening and found that we were not taken serious as guests.

We would not come back to this place.. Overpriced and lack of service considering this is a four star hotel.

The food was absolutely disappointing. It looked delicious but the taste was atrocious. Definitely will not come here again as i despise eating garbage. Would not recommend this even to a homeless person who is starving. Would give 0 stars but not able to.

The food at breakfast and Dinner was made with Love by people care.that was fantastic. The staff are friendly and attentive. The Spa is a feature that you should be taken as it's a way to start or end your day before winding down with the great food in the Grill Restaurant

Our third or fourth visit in the last two years. Just chilled out, relaxing in the library and bar, using the great swimming pool and spa centre. Excellent service as usual from the friendly staff. We will be back.

I give this review because of one person who works here called Shaun who is always very polite, welcoming and goes above and beyond what he needs to. The only reason my family and me will visit here for coffee's, gins and food.

We had a nice big room but Curtains didnt close, Tv didnt work & didn't have more than 5 channels . If your looking for a good night sleep wouldn't pick this room . Could hear every single foot steps from upstairs .Doors opening & closing . Food was horrible my soup in the clock tower was very bland no taste . Evening meal was ok nothing special exept my cheese board. When you book a nice hotel you expect it to be good . Evening meal was not nice .Will not be going back or recommend this hotel

Lovely hotel and grounds - don't expect 'city style' modern cuisine, immaculate presentation or savoy-style service - this is a most charming independent country house hotel with original features, woodland grounds and friendly local staff located in a beautiful rural area, and that was enough for me. It could do with a bit more training for the younger staff, brightening up the rooms, losing the pink table linens and menu focus, but would visit again when in the area.

This place is nice enough if you're looking for a spa that's in a quiet location but it let us down because it didn't have the jacuzzi working in the pool area other than that its splendid and tranquil rooms are very nice and it has splendour as well

Went to a Christmas party and the food was mediocre at best, the music was awful and the drinks shockingly expensive.
To top it all off the receptionist at the end of the evening was the rudest person I have ever met.
Shouting at all the guest as they were leaving demanding they were quite.
I wouldn't mind if I had actually been drunk and making noise. Telling me to "Shut my F###ing mouth" is completely unacceptable even if I was drunk. There is a polite way of asking people to be quiet and that is not the way.
I will never come back here!

Very enjoyable stay. Excellent restaurant and friendly staff. The gardens are beautifully maintained and we enjoyed the spa.

The only thing we thought could be improved was the menu in the brasserie which was a bit limited.

Very enjoyable stay. Good food and wine. Weather was abysmal, we enjoyed the fish courses, although I suspect the steak and lamb was also excellent - from the comments of the other diners. The weather was dreadful, but that wasn't the hotel's fault. Would definitely stay there again.
