Good place for kids! Although, staffs need to be more attentive to people who doesn't know where to start and give you a quick intro. Sounds silly, but it's really helpful for those people who travel from diff places just to see the history of the New York Transit. Overall, good place to hangout and very educational for kids. Also, going to different train cars feels like you're time travelling, lol.

I was here last September. A great and interesting excursion destination, which is not as crowded as all other sights in New York. In addition, the entry is cheap, you can take great photos and you can take a few special New York souvenirs with you in the souvenir shop. An absolute insider tip and not only suitable for railway fans!

Fantastic museum for only $10. The first section could definitely use air conditioning in the summer but the entire exhibit gives a good history and recount of hardships and events that the New York Transit system has been through (power outages, hurricanes, 911, etc.). There's lots of information about the timeline of everything as well as the use of different technologies and designs that have been used. The tour guide (which I happen to come across) seemed to be extremely knowledgeable about the history of the different generations of the subways. The subway exhibit is in a live station and you get to go in a whole bunch of the different subway cars going back to the 20th century. Muchly recommended.

This museum is great for all ages. Children to adults alike. I've worked on transit projects which probably added to the appeal, but it was extremely informative and unique. Friendly staff as well. Highly recommend

A very rich and informative museum on the construction of the New York subway. Many explanatory panels and photos that trace the work of those who dug the tunnels. The tour ends with the discovery of wagons from different eras!
Do not miss !!

Man do I love a good museum about public transportation. This is a small place but I only got through half in 2 hours. Definitely need to check this out if you're a New Yorker. As a daily subway commuter it's awesome to see the history of the underground tunnel system we love to hate.

Terrific museum, especially if you want to visit a museum in NYC with children. I always forget to recommend this museum to people who want to visit the highlights of NYC. It is full of interesting information, examples of old full size trolley cars, buses and subways. Kids can climb in these historic modes of transport. They also have plenty of programs offered throughout the day. Reasonably priced, $10 for adults, and $5 under 17. Great gift shop for unique souvenirs and gifts of NYC.

This museum has all the history of the subway. The information is very in depth on how it was built and the dangers involved in the construction of tunnels and laying down rails. There's alot of nostalgic fun viewing all the train cars from the past. It's a must for a subway system enthusiasts.

One of my favorite museums in the city. The museum covers no only the construction of the underground lines but also the development in the various transit technologies from trains and buses to turnstiles. The various tokens (and things used to fake tokens) are interesting. The museum being build in an old station means that there are old train cars on the lower levels which are neat in their own right but made even better by the vintage subway ads and notices.

Very interesting museum. Loads of information and artefacts about the evolution of public transport in NYC. A good way to learn more about the city's history. Also the place is a former subway station, so boarding old trains means experiencing the city in the 1920s and later. Very welcoming staff.

A cute and interesting museum about the history of the New York subway as well as about public transportation as a whole in the city. Favorable prices. Recommended in my opinion with children aged 5 and up. Adults interested in this interesting topic will also enjoy. Kids will enjoy cute illustrations on the old ticket stands, an old bus that can be "driven" and more. 1st floor is dedicated to a beautiful visit to the train carriages from all periods. Interesting and "traveling back in time" in a sense. The visit lasts about an hour and a half. In my opinion, there is a lack of future reference to the issues of railway development in the 21st century. Does not detract from the museum experience that turns every ride at the bottom into something else ....

Ever wonder how the subway came to be and the networking behind that scenes that makes it happen? Great spot to visit for a small admission fee. Its in an old subway which surprised me as I had visited on a whim. The tour was very fun and seeing some of these old cars really made me appreciate how far the subway has come since back in the 20th century. Will you stop you from hating your commute? Heck no, you'll just grin slightly less

Fantastic place and a hidden treasure. Great exhibit of the history and labor history of the building of the subway system and the historical context. Fun for kids off all ages with hands on material throughout. The real star is the lower level with genuine historical train models and rehabs. Highly recommended!

Pretty good museum. There is an accessible entrance, but from what I was told, they prefer you to book it.

However, not all of the museum is accessible.

Also, for those with young kids... The track level exhibition sits on live subway lines. Keep an eye on them.

Pretty good shop though

Having lived in New York for a few years now, I have gotten to love/hate the subway in the same breath. It was refreshing to go back in time and watch the carriages evolve with the years since 1915. The entry fee is $10 and it's definitely worth it. It would take you ideally about 1.5 - 2 hours to completely go through the museum.

The museum details the painstaking journey the labourers and architects went through to create the backbone in the city. You get to learn that there were more subway lines than that exist now. Most of these lines were dismantled in 1955 due to reduced demand and ambitious real estate drives. Also intriguing are the ads that used to run during those times, these ads have been immortalized in the old subway carriages. One can also see the subway carriages dating back to 1915. Its interesting to see how the jute seats evolved to metallic ones.

A very thorough map of the subway system. Loved the museum.
