I've been to the museum a few times, I always liked it, cause of the nicely illustrated history of the city. I even was a sustaining member mainly to get the chance to see the abandoned underground station below the City Hall to visit. Another benefit of this membership is that you can board the USS Intrepid on the Hudson River for free together with a non-member.

Do not attend this place on a Sunday!!

Do not attend this place on a Sunday!!
It is over run with children. There must have been over 100 2-5 year olds there screaming, pounding on the displays, running in front of you with no courtesy etc.

The museum was mediocre at best. Perhaps if you have children with you THEY might enjoy it. Otherwise it was sparse in content and high in headache.

This gem is magically hidden in Brooklyn, only 2 blocks from the "real subway" lines 2, 4 and 5. We stayed in the museum for hours, we read all the interesting stories and we played with all the interactive/educative tools and machinery.... and we are over 21... so i can not imagine how wonderful this museum can be for a kid! it merges history and fashion, because you can visit the old 20's and 60's trains and they always have great temporary expos, like the music and subway. Simply fantastic.

The museum is interesting to both children and adults. Children like to see old subway cars, feel like a bus driver. Everything can be touched, twisted, etc., etc. a lot of engine operation schemes, gas stations, everything flashes, turns. Very clearly and readily shown mechanisms during operation.

We recently held a birthday party here. It was amazing. Sam was our tour guide and support for the party (with two others). She had great energy and enthusiasm throughout the party. Loved the experience and would totally recommend to other families.

If you're a transit nerd like me, or just love a bit of history the transit museum is a great place to spend 1-2 hours. The trains on the tracks are the obvious highlight but the exhibits upstairs are interesting too.

This museum is a wonderful place to see many equipment from the subway that isn't seen anymore. They have showings of how the first subway was built, all of the old trains that are on the tracks that your able to enter without any problems, the many turnstiles that are near the end of the exhibits, and the museum store. It is a wonderful place to go spend an entire day if you have, and I highly recommend it.

This is a great museum to find in Downtown Brooklyn, New York to discover the history of the New York City Subway. It is also great because of the fact it is in a vintage 1936 subway station.

If you like history, this is a great assembly of information about the subway system.

Love trains, love metro, and ended up in New York - step into the history of our subway.
Despicable exhibits, real metro cars for the entire existence, except for the current linear ones.
And most importantly, it is these wagons that participate in retro-runs.

An absolute must for anyone interested in subways and their history. The museum is relatively small, but still describes in great detail the history of the New York metro including original cars from various times.

I took a virtual tour and really liked it. If I could get a little more guidance rather than strolling on my own I would have got more from this experience. But maybe I didn't get because it was my first Google museum.

This is definitely NYC's most unique museum. It is hosted in an actual NYC subway station and features actual NYC subway trains that go back to the early 20th century. One of NYC's best keep secrets.

Great and fun museum for all ages, with easy access from the metro. If you have any interest in trains in general and the subway, you should go. It has historic facts from the time the subway was being built and some fun activities for the children. Plus, the ticket is not expensive at all, making it affordable since it's not included in the attractions bundles.

I took my Special Ed. Class here on a field trip. The tour guide Katherine was really accommodating for my special needs students. They have subway trains from 1905-2010. They also have buses to sit in.

You don't need to be a railfan or a youngster to enjoy this museum. This museum exists at the intersection of design, science, hard labor, art, history, and civil engineering. They have a broad swath of several generations of subway railcar in the lower level, as well as a few work vehicles and locomotives. Photos very much allowed. Mind the admission fee, which is $10 for adults.

An interesting museum built in an old subway station in Brooklyn where you'll learn about the history of the NYC transit system and how the tunnels were made. Be sure to go downstairs to the old subway platform where you can experience train cars throughout the ages. This is a great spot for kids with lots of interactive activities - plus, what kid doesn't love trains?!

I really enjoyed this museum. I mean trains are fascinating so getting some background information on them, their existence and evolution was awesome!. Small gallery but packed with good information. Kids and adults will love this place. Keep in mind if you go in the summer months there will be summer camps visiting as well. I will go again in order to read with more focus. Only added 3 pictures so you can go and see the place for yourselves!!

The children's display of train drivers' seats and vehicles by age lined up on the platform are very popular. I enjoyed my one and a half year old son. However, since the actual subway station used in the past is used as a museum, and the entrance is a narrow staircase, those using strollers should be careful. There was a diaper change sheet in the toilet, and there was a space where you could eat the food and drink you brought in (exhibition space is prohibited).
