Merrion Centre heavies!!!!
Visited the Merrion Centre today at 12.00 very busy got a sandwich but no where to sit so me and my better half just went upstairs a sat on a step. Nobody about and steps were about 12ft wide so not blocking any access(only saw 3 other people). After 5 minutes of sitting there was approached by a security guard who said we had to move, asked him why and he said it's policy you can't sit on steps blocking access I made an obvious look around and didn't see any tumble weed coming past and said to him we were doing no harm just having our sandwich and coffee not blocking any one. He once again said we had to move, it's policy I then asked him where the policy was and where was the sign saying we couldn't sit on steps. I told him we wouldn't be moving and to get the police. He walked off to towards 3 other Merrion centre staff about 20 ft away and spoke to them. Another member of staff then approached us and introduced himself as the other man's supervisor he practically said the same to me and I said the same back asking to see the policy as no sign was in place. He also the walked off we were then approached by him and his manager who was the operations manager Darren Brooke. He basically said the same that we would have to move as we were blocking the stairs and it was policy he said we could sit downstairs but was unable to answer when i said we would have if there were any free seats. He also was not able to show me the policy and told us he did not have to show us it and that it was also Merrion Centre policy not to have signs everywhere and that we were making a big issue out of all this, We were making a big issue out of it!!! Basically the intimidation got to my partner and worrying it could escalate and she would miss her hospital appointment she got up. We stood up and continued eating but they didn't move off probably worried we may sit on the step again. After finishing my sandwich I went back up and got the managers name he was still adamant that we were the ones who had made a big issue out of things and that the Merrion Centre was private property and they could do what they want.
I intend to post this wherever I can as I feel that they and the Merrion Centre should be embarrassed by their behaviour towards their customers.
