I thought much better, I would not recommend it to a beginner or who is starting to ski together. The signaling on the slopes is almost non-existent, despite the low season and day infra weekly the slopes were quite crowded and the blue track 10 is actually a red one. The red runs 8 and 9 are quite long and very demanding, overall pleasant anyway. The track 14 that leads downstream is more of a black than a red one, kept badly, snow accumulated everywhere already late in the morning. The blue downhill slopes are very easy, not very long and it takes some time to get the ski lift

The ski resort is actually 2 separate resorts - Gitschberg with access to the cable cars in Meransen and Jochtal with the arrival in Valles. I mention this because there is a big quality difference between the two cableways connected by the resorts. Although Gitschberg looks more promising at first glance, o.i. also because there is also the highest point of the resort over 2500 m above sea level, but the resort has 2 problems: one is south-facing slopes, which in the end means snow melting during the day, its frozen at night and that you spend more time endless movements of cable cars (all cabins, usually with the need to take skis in, only 1 spare seat, 1 poma) and much less ski. Jochtal has peaks of "only" 2100 m, but beautiful wide slopes oriented to the north or east, where KE great snow, ice we have experienced (for sure days in Gitschberg pure ice), comfortable seats on which you do not need to switch off skis.

Good ski-centrum, though far from the best - there is a long transport between Gitschberg and Jochtal, and I highly recommend going to Gitschberg first, as it is on southern slopes and the snow is usually not in good shape in the afternoon.

Nice family ski area. Not too big and yet there is a suitable slope for everyone.
There are also enough practice opportunities for beginners.
The huts offer great food at reasonable prices.
There is also nothing to complain about when it comes to snow quality and slope preparation.
Most of the lifts are modern, only a four-seater chair could be replaced. Old technology is still used here.

I stayed in Rio di Pusteria in July and through the cable cars, all free with the card offered by the hotel, I reached this fantastic location over 2000m from which trails of all kinds start for both beginners and experts where you can admire fabulous views.

Medium-sized ski area, which connects the two small villages of Valles and Maranza.

Having to choose where to leave the car, I would recommend Valles, bigger and better prepared for the reception thanks to the presence of several hotels and a really high level bar / restaurant right next to the departure chairlift.

Slopes not numerous (a dozen excluding variants), but very well prepared (noticeable the black that goes down to Valle).

Easily accessible, plenty of parking space. If not some would tend to want to park their car next to the lift gondola .... Perhaps the administration could improve it here with appropriate measures .... Otherwise an almost perfect winter sports area, even for pedestrians ....

Place with a truly beautiful landscape ideal for walking on more or less demanding paths or just to relax and be in peace in unspoiled nature.
In the hut you can eat many specialties, local cheese platters, fresh and excellent quality cold cuts as well as hot first and second courses, all with excellent draft and bottled beers, all of which can be enjoyed inside or even outdoors where else you can enjoy a splendid panorama.
On the outside there is also an area dedicated to children with various games for both the little ones and the older ones and a fence with animals.

In addition they only speak German or Austrian of Italians they have nothing I would take away the special status region immediately. Apart from this unpleasant inconvenience in ITALY we have Beautiful Places

Top ski area, great ski slopes. Even with little snow, slopes are always perfectly prepared and no ice sheets. No long queues at the gondola or the chairlifts. And reasonable prices. I have been skiing in South Tyrol for 10 years and I look forward to it every year. Horny rustic huts with friendly staff, reasonable prices for food and drinks.
