I've purchased multiple pairs of Balegas here, some Saucony trail shoes, a Nike hat, and a bevy of nutrition.
Nathan was very helpful in selecting the right shoe for me to wear, my right foot had given me such pain that my foot doctor recommended Tortoise & Hare Sports. Nathan showed me a couple of shoes and I finally pick Brooks running shoes which has been awsome with little to no pain in my foot. I would recommend Tortoise & Hare Sport to anyone and everyone I see and Nathan especially because of his knowledge of the product.

Love the experience every time I'm here. Has to be my favorite running store. The staff is always super nice, very knowledgeable about the products they stock (and even many they don't), and very thorough. They take the time to get to know you so they can make sure to get you what you what/need.

I recently started running agin after a very long break and I was apprehensive about going here for the first time, afraid that I would be entering a "judgement zone", however from the minute I walked in they made me feel comfortable, listened to me and asked me a lot of questions to make sure I was getting exactly what I needed. Everyone was 100% knowledgable, caring and dedicated to helping me. They gave me a ton of information. They have gotten a customer for life after just one visit and I will recommend them to anyone that will listen.
A great little place specializing in running shoes. The outgoing staff will make sure that you have the perfect fit for every type of running event. You have the option of the tread mill or a short run to test out those new treads. Definitely appreciate how much they support high school sports.
I recently shopped @ the store because I had purchased a groupon. I was in need of a new water belt so I dragged my sister & all of our kids to the store. First of all the staff was soo helpful without being pushy. I ended up buying a new pair of shoes along with the water belt. Plus, my sister ended up buying a new pair of shoes too. The staff offered advice for my plantar faciitis which I could tell was honest personal advice. I truely appreciated it. My sister & I are going to attend one of the running clinics & will definitely be back to the store. Soo happy to have a running store on the west side of town:)
Also, we had 4 kids with us ranging from 11-3yrs old & the staff was kindly playing with them, not annoyed at all. This allowed us to actually shop for the shoes without rushing out. Wonderful shopping experience!

Was pricy but worth it. They showed me some exercises to help with the foot issues I've been having and set me up with an excellent shoe and insole. I drove home and went on a nice long run afterwords with no foot pain.
I attended the "Good Form Running Clinic" on 7.11.12 and I definitely learned more than I expected. The class was interactive with demonstrations and valuable instruction. Nathan is very knowledgeable and demonstrated the techniques very well. I plan to attend the class again.
Great Shop! As a person that's on my feet 12 + hours a day I need good shoes. I can't say I've ever been explained what I'm looking for, my sales rep knew it! Sometimes great service can be confused with being sales heavy. But these guys are simply all about the service. Thank you for helping me find some great shoes and having the knowledge to immediately identify what I needed. AND somehow the price was great too! Even though it would almost be justified to pay more for their expertise. I will definitely be back!
It doesn't matter who helps me with my shoe fit, they are always the nicest, spend as much time as it takes to fit 'em up, and I leave with shoes that work for me until I wear them out, and I come back in again!

Elena was awesome! She was patient and informative while I tried on 8 different shoes. She gave us helpful tips along the way. Even when it was past closing time and I had already selected the shoes I wanted to purchase, she offered to show me some "smashing" moves to help with the pain/tension in my feet and calves. She said she wasn't worried about the time and was genuinely excited to help. My husband and I felt like we were laughing and learning from an old friend...not a sales person.
We left the store not only more educated, but with a rock'n pair of crossfit kicks :)

Original: I wanted to like this store. The sales associates are very nice. They give you individualized attention and make you feel like you re buying a shoe custom fit for you. However, my experience made me realize they are a one trick pony.
After getting my walking analyzed, the associate brought out multiple shoes and I kept telling her that the crazy thickness of the sole was making my ankles feel unstable. She told me I just needed to get used to it because my current running shoes didn t have enough cushion. I bought a pair, went for a run and in less than a half mile I fell and sprained my ankle.
I immediately took the shoes back that day. I explained what happened and they just stared at me like a deer in the headlights. I asked if I could just exchange them for a pair with less cushion but the two shoes she brought me had the same amount of insane Hoka amount of cushion. I left without shoes, an ankle I can t run on for at least a week and the following takeaways.
The model of this store is to stock very high priced shoes. No matter the brand, they all have very thick soles. Unfortunately, the associates are not trained to listed to your individual needs. Even with the analysis , they recommend the same type of shoe for everyone (multiple friends and family all get the same shoe suggestions)
First time in today and incredibly impressed by the knowledge and time they took to assess my feet and get me exactly what I needed! I left with the perfect shoe that I never would have looked at online on my own! Thank you Greg! I really appreciate it!

I visited Tortoise & Hare planning to just pick up a pair of insoles in the brand recommended by the orthopedist. I was just amazed at the amount of time and effort Nathan put into helping me find the right pair of insoles even though I was a ditz and failed to bring my sneakers. He was very knowledgeable about the mechanics of walking/runing and had a surprising variety of shoes available. He seemed genuinely concerned that I leave happy.
I also appreciated the fact that everyone was very nice to me even though I'm obviously not the typical "athlete" that probably comes through their doors. I was a seriously fat couch potato and only started doing any sort of exercise about a year ago. I'm definitely not a lean, mean, running machine -- I'm still trying to work up to being able to do a 5k -- but I need decent footwear like anyone else. I've been in places where the staff was obviously confused on why a fat chick would want or need athletic gear. At first I had a moment of panic that I might not be welcomed there, but I could not have been more wrong. The staff there listened to my concerns and challenges and offered some suggestions to reduce injuries and even invited me to one of their clinics. I have no doubt that the staff at Tortoise & Hare will treat me like a valued customer when I go back for more insoles or shoes or whatever.
I would definitely recommend Tortoise & Hare for anyone looking for quality running shoes and expert advice.

Was in this store today, June 13th 2015 and was helped by Rebecca. She was very thorough with fitting me with the best shoes and sports bra. She also helped fit my 4 year old with shoes that will help make him " fast like flash". She also showed me some trigger point release exercises to help with the pain that I have in my feet.

I'm trying to get into Marine Corps OCS, which requires a high level of running. I've never been a runner...ever. So I went here and the guy was awesome. Didn't care about selling the most expensive shoe, he just wanted me to have the best shoe that I needed. Then they showed me how I was running wrong and the proper technique to run. It changed everything about my running and I cut my three mile time down over 6 minutes in just four months. I owe these guys so much. Highly recommend everyone to go here.
I recently stopped in to Tortoise and Hare in search of a running headband. I was pleasantly surprised by Nathan's helpfulness, energy and willingness to provide amazing service!! I was in search of a headband and he offered me advice on my hurting knee, information about local runs and the clinics offered by the store. I will be back to see him when I need a new pair of shoes or any other item for running! What a great store!!!

Great service. I was greeted right away when I walked in and they scanned my foot and analyzed how I walk and then I stood on a pressure sensor to see where on my foot I bear the most weight. They fitted me with the most comfortable shoe I have worn in my entire life. I definitely will be returning here to buy my shoes and recommend it to anyone who stands alot at work and need a great fitting shoe!!

Fourth Review: I have so much respect for tortoise and hare. After wearing my newly exchanged shoes for a day, I realized they didn't feel as good as they did in the store. I finally knew exactly what to ask them for. However, after being there three times, I felt miserable about asking them for help again. I didn't want to be "that" customer. I actually lost sleep over deciding whether to go back or not. I decided to go back. When I first walked in, I felt terrible about taking more of their time. I was so uncomfortable just walking in. They picked up on it right away and the first thing I heard was "We'll take care of you, don't worry.". And they did. Even if I moved out of Arizona, I would fly back, just to get new shoes from them. They tried so hard to make me feel like it was okay that I kept coming back. As a thank you, I'm sending them a couple pizzas today. Their service needs to be recognized as the best I've ever seen.
Third review: Today I swapped out the inserts from yesterday, and two pairs of shoes from the original purchase. First of all, I felt bad about going back to the store for a second time to exchange something. I didn't want anyone at the store to feel like they did a wrong job, or anything like that. What I discovered, was that as a new quality shoe wearer, I didn't quite know how to communicate what I was feeling in my shoes, and I thought that some of the things that I was feeling in my shoes, was just because they were new. So, nobody in the store made a mistake. I am the one that made the mistakes. I should have brought to their attention, any weird or uncomfortable feelings that I had in the shoes. I thought that I would just get used to those feelings. But today, I learned that I shouldn't have any discomfort in my shoes. Once Christine figured out that I wasn't completely comfortable, and I just didn't know what I was experiencing, she made it a point to once again dive thoroughly into an evaluation. She didn't make me feel like a bother, Nancy didn't make me feel funny because I came back again, they just wanted to take care of me. Christine was able to understand my description of what I was feeling in my shoes and she could relate. Now I'm at home with one pair of original shoes, two pairs of exchanged shoes, and new inserts for them. They feel fantastic! I want to thank tortoise and hare, and all of their specialists, for being so patient with me during this learning curve of having quality shoes for the first time. I am floored at the customer service that I received every single time I went into the store. if you're like me, and new to owning quality shoes and experiencing what they should feel like, go to tortoise and hare.
Second review: My first experience was amazing. However, just a short time after being in my new shoes, I began to have discomfort in my right foot. So I called the store to find out what I could do. I expected to hear tough luck because I had the shoes and inserts for a couple weeks. I was blown away at how much they wanted to help me. Onya told me to come in and they would take care of everything. Nancy jumped into action, spent a lot of time with me, and got me into inserts that were better suited for me. The staff at checkout we're some of the friendliest people I ever met.This is the best customer service I've ever received anytime and anywhere. I am a permanent and grateful customer. This is the only place I'll buy my shoes and inserts.

First of all I would like to say Mary is beyond amazing and the rest of the staff is great as well. I went in looking for some shoes to run my first 15k to celebrate a big weight loss. Mary greeted me with a smile and treated me like I was royalty and the entire staff was very friendly with my 2 year old as well. After asking me some questions and doing some video of me walking and jogging on the treadmill we found the perfect shoes for me which are the Adrenaline 18's which I will be in this week to pick up. So a huge thank you to the entire staff for making this Hispanic guy with short hair and tattoos feel like a normal person in society which is not something I experience as much as I should.

The service was great. I was video taped on the tread mill so the salesman could check and make sure the shoes I was trying out were keeping me from rolling. (I am an overpronater.)

Today I got fit for hiking shoes and running shoes and it was the absolute most excellent experience ever! I worked with Kristen and she went above and beyond.
As I have gotten older I have learned that having the right tools and equipment make a huge difference in performance and in the case of something like shoes, health and injury prevention. Take the time to get what is right for your foot, gait, workout and needs.
Bonus side note, I have had ankle issues and injuries my whole life practically, but today I was told my ankles are incredible strong, don't roll and are very balanced. I 100 percent attribute this to my weightlifting and also now my strength training barefoot (per Idalis's recommendation during 30 Day Breakaway test group.) If you don't get train barefoot, or if you don't yet strength train at all, it has effects that just may change your life in a really positive way you weren't even expecting!
These are my new trail shoes.... Cannot wait to get out there again this week! (Oh, and while trying on shoes at the store they even had me go outside in them.to walk on rocks.... Talk about making sure they would work for ME in MY real life! )

The experience was AMAZING. I took my 8 year old daughter into the store to get running shoes because shes now in track and the shoes she had was not great. Warren helped us and from beginning to end he made our time great. Another lady came over and I'm sad I forgot her name but she was just as sweet and engaged in conversation with my kids about TV shows and told my daughter she loved her shoes. I really loved the experience and the knowledge on shoes that was right for her. She walked out feeling great and ready for practice on Tuesday.

When I entered the store they not only fit me for a great pair of shoes, but took the time to look at my running stride on tredmill. Excellent customer service! We never got an experience like this before, Des took excellent care showing and explaining the whole process, she measured and checked all the measurements using some awesome and fancy equipment. Then based on all of that, recommended shoes to try. Only 3 pairs it took to find the right fit and confort. I will be back in the future for more shoes from here! Definitely recommend them.

As novice runners, my husband and I wanted advice and instruction to help us improve performance and endurance. The "Good Form Running" level one class was invaluable. Nathan was extremely pleasant and encouraging. The lessons and tips were easily explained (and demonstrated). We were also fitted for shoes and tried on several pairs (he checked us in each one to determine which worked best based on foot type).
The experience was well worth it and helped us learn not just what we were doing wrong, but guided us on how to run efficiently and effectively. Would definitely recommend the classes and the store!

These guys were top notch at helping out my friend and I in getting great running shoes. I'm gonna be running in my first 5K and they took almost an hour with each of us to make sure we had the right shoe and were going to be injury free by analyzing how we run.
