Tortilla Flat is the epitome of an Arizona tourist...

Tortilla Flat is the epitome of an Arizona tourist trap in the mountains East of Phoenix, and boy did it trap a lot when I was there last weekend! The parking lot was overflowing with cars from Alberta, Wisconsin, etc. carrying loads of baby boomers out for a drive. We had planned to eat something or at least get a beer, but when we encountered the crowd we figured out that wasn't going to happen without a significant wait. So we walked through the gift shops, watched the old West reenactment for a minute and finally managed to get a few seats in the outdoor bar/burger place that had a live band. We only got beers but had we wanted a burger, the only choice you have is one that weighs in at 1/2 lb! They did smell delicious, though. And the band was fun and zeroed in on the tunes to match the nearly identical members of the 50 - 70 year old white folks in the crowd. Tortilla Flat is totally cliche but staff is nice and it's harmlessly wacky so I can't complain. Don't go there on purpose, but if you're exploring, drive by, could use a beer and there's parking to be had, it's worth a stop.

Rode the motorcycle up here with friends, the service was friendly and very attentive, the place is clean comfortable. I had breakfast, eggs, home fries, and toast, it took forever to get our food and my home fries were not crispy nor were they fresh and were very dark brown( like they had been sitting under a warmer for quite a long time ) but it wasn't horrible. I doubt I would do that again but the ride was beautiful and alot of fun. Definitely a place to visit.

Scott was the best. I took his new tour and had a blast. The slight rain didn't deter Scott from giving the whole group an absolutely great afternoon where I learned more about pizza than I ever thought there could be to know. Oh, and Scott has a miniature pepper grinder on his person, and it was the best damn pepper I've ever had. Ask for some.

Drove out here for lunch the other day from Cave Creek. It was a beautiful drive and, you even get to cross over parts of Canyon Lake on a one way bridge. The restaurant was awesome. The atmosphere was definitely different. Dollar bills in layers were stapled to the walls. The service was extremely fast. I ordered the chili in the bread bowl and it did not disappoint. I can t wait to go back one day. Definitely a nice little day trip.

The workers were absolutely wonderful, they helped us with a flat tire in 118 degree weather, gave us a cool place to wait for road side assistance. Those ladies that helped us are absolutely baller. They also have great food. The restaurant is quite the character. They deserve more recognition. Beautiful outlook of the mountains. Marvelous little shops, expensive shops but it's a tourist attraction...for those who can find it. Special place if I've ever been to one.

Tortilla Flat is and amazing place for a family trip. The drive is amazing and there is a lot to do on the way there. On site there is a really great Saloon and at the bar the seats are saddles! They have an amazing homemade chilli. There is also an ice cream shop and a gift shop that sells Native American jewelry. I highly recommend this drive for your next family outing!

Fun

Lovely little town along a beautiful winding road. Wished we could have stayed longer / kept going on the Apache Trail. Was the perfect day drive.

Have visited both Goldfield and Tombstone and was pleasantly surprised to see that Tortilla Flat was the kind of the same, but different.

The shops had great souvenirs and the ice cream was excellent. Eat at the restaurant if you have the time. I wanted to leave a $1 on the wall, but wasn't sure how!

I was down from Canada visiting my snowbird parents in Mesa this week and on my last day of my short trip my Dad took me to Tortilla Flat for lunch. The waiting time for a table was reasonable (maybe 10 minutes) and we had a great lunch. The walls and ceiling inside the restaurant are quite the attraction. Rumour has it the total dollar value of the wall coverings is over $350K in one dollar bills!

Fun little getaway for the day. Just wanted to get out of the city and enjoy a ride. Food was amazing and service was great. Went on a Monday, wasn't busy at all and got seated right away. Service was great!

The ice cream shop got rid of the prickly pear ice cream and replaced it with gelato prickly pear. My family has been going there for years just for the prickly pear ice cream because it was so delicious. The gelato prickly pear is not so great and Bland kind of sad that we will not look forward to the prickly pear ice cream anymore. For years I always told my kids do you guys want prickly pear ice cream and their eyes would light up and be so excited. Boycott the gelato bring on the ice cream.I

Fun for a quick visit to check out inside. I personally don't prefer their food, so you be the judge. Cool saddle bar stools and dollars that line the walls. Bar service polite, kind, but a tad slow on sense of urgency, imo.
