Chris McCormack Review of Tortilla Flats Bar & Grill

Tortilla Flat is the epitome of an Arizona tourist trap in the mountains East of Phoenix, and boy did it trap a lot when I was there last weekend! The parking lot was overflowing with cars from Alberta, Wisconsin, etc. carrying loads of baby boomers out for a drive. We had planned to eat something or at least get a beer, but when we encountered the crowd we figured out that wasn't going to happen without a significant wait. So we walked through the gift shops, watched the old West reenactment for a minute and finally managed to get a few seats in the outdoor bar/burger place that had a live band. We only got beers but had we wanted a burger, the only choice you have is one that weighs in at 1/2 lb! They did smell delicious, though. And the band was fun and zeroed in on the tunes to match the nearly identical members of the 50 - 70 year old white folks in the crowd. Tortilla Flat is totally cliche but staff is nice and it's harmlessly wacky so I can't complain. Don't go there on purpose, but if you're exploring, drive by, could use a beer and there's parking to be had, it's worth a stop.
