Lovely place to eat, bit pricey but service is fan...
Lovely place to eat, bit pricey but service is fantastic as is the food!

So delicious. At first I want sure if it would be overrated being a small chain in the city. But we really wanted breakfast at 2pm on a Tuesday. And I am so glad we went. I had the Hash Quiche. Two hash brown "muffins" would scrambled egg and sour cream on top. It was so good I ate every bite. And the chipotle cheddar toast, I now want that with everything in life.
Aside from amazing food, really great atmosphere. Casual, fun and a great staff. You need to check them out.
This place has such good food! It does sometimes have a line that may take at the most 30mins, but in the end it is soooo worth it!
Really great atmosphere. Food is fair and good. Would recommend.
Favourite place for breakfast in Cambridge. Quirky decor. Tattooed staff. Great eggs. What's not to love?
Never had a bad meal here. I like how everything on the menu has a twist. It's not just pancakes. It's pancakes, chocolate and bananas. It's not just toast it's homemade anadama bread. Prepare for a wait when you arrive though. You can chill on their sweet couch and take in all the funky stuff. Waitstaff are nice and friendly. Don't forget to try one of their gargantuan chocolate chip cookies on the way out.
Great place and great service! Get a bloody Mary. Just do it. Especially the spicy ones. Because they're amazing! My stuffed French toast was delicious although I wished there was more filling. But the bread was divine.
Fun place to go, definitely want to bring others here!
Places that offer treats (vegan + gluten free!) to waiting customers are serious about their customer service. Other establishments can definitely learn from The Friendly Toast. Their staff is great, smoked salmon greater, and free coffee against a Yelp check-in the greatest!
Wow. No really, wow. The Friendly Toast is one of the best, if not the best dining experiences we have had in quite a while. A fantastic menu loaded with multiple creative dishes. Everyone in our party of six ordered different meals, and we were all delighted with them. There is really nothing that you can order here that doesn't work. Environment is positive, open, and real. 1950s Kitsch design motif throughout the restaurant doesn't detract and works perfectly. Location is in the middle of a huge and impersonal Industrial business area , so it's not a human scaled place outside. But once you get inside... It's magic!
I was touring from out of town, first time there. i've to say the menu has a whole lot of selection, consisting of non-breakfast gadgets. The wait become lengthy but really worth it... I ordered the "guy Scramble"... Its served with domestic fries and toast... I did not even finish half of of my meals earlier than i was full. typical the service was good and the food turned into top notch. i would truly come returned.
Long wait but worth it. Best pancakes and healthy selection if you re into that
Over-sized breakfast portions of the most delicious and satisfying comfort food you can imagine. It's hard to snag a seat but absolutely worth the wait!
Such a great fun decorations make this place a must. The food is delicious and the portions are huge. The coffee is good and we tried the farm veggie scramble eggs and the biscuits and gravy were both amazing. The service is nice and friendly, we seat at the bar
Such good food, Breakfast all day!, many many unique options on the menu and great atmosphere.
Cozy atmosphere..friendly staff..yummy food with plenty of vegan options. Specially recommended for breakfast.
The " Friendly toast." The name basically alerts customer to the fact that only the toast is tasty and your taking your chances with everything else. In my opinion the difference between a good breakfast and a great breakfast is simple, a great breakfast is when the coffee taste like coffee, the homefries are seasoned perfectly and the eggs are prepared the way you ask. There is no wiggle room, you can't have one without the other and that's why I will not return to the " Friendly toast," in Portsmouth NH. While the toast was, tasty, and home made, the coffee tasted like the server/owner re-used the earlier grounds. It was very weak and not at all tasty. The homefries should have been served with a side of celery and blue cheese dressing, at least I'd have something to use to put out the five alarm fire in my mouth. If I wanted spicy I'd eat a breakfast burrito at taco bell. The owners should at least place a picture of a chili pepper next to the spicy items on their menu! As for the eggs I had mine over medium and did receive them correctly, so kudo's to the short order cook! As for the service, it was horrible, I am a server myself at a popular fortune 500 company and chain. All I can say is unexpected personal touches go a long way, but, so does asking how everything is and if you need anything. I don't need to be smothered with attention yet when I alert you that you forgot my homefries, please don't just drop them at my table without a word. This makes me feel like your annoyed with me for mentioning it!! All in all, I won't be returning, unless I have a craving for fresh baked " friendly toast," and nothing else!
So we love the Portsmouth FT and figured that this was a safe choice for a super early dinner, trusting that as the brand has expanded, the excellence in meal prep would be consistent....NOT.
We arrived at 4:45 PM on a Weds., so yah, I get it that we were not there at peak, but there is no excuse for serving lukewarm, old food. The eggs on the two different kinds of Benedict s that we had were the only thing we could say was fresh . The fries with the avocado burger were old, the taco party was meh. Ugh.
Very, very frustrating and disappointing, and because we were pressed for time, we just left disappointed rather than complaining....
SO make sure you go at peak meal times to assure you get a better sampling than we did.
A nice breakfast spot with attitude. Lives up to the hype! Fair warning though it's crowded on weekends.
Good food and good atmosphere. Staff is attentive. The chicken and waffles were on the sweet side and it's definitely not a classic chicken and waffles but it was good nonetheless.
A quick visit with friends in Boston and the brought me to The Friendly Toast. My plan is to get back there Everytime I'm in Boston. It's a great place with good food and friendly staff. I just loved it.
I enjoyed the how it vegan however my friend got food poisoning from the an egg dish so check to make sure your food is cooked all the way
Great brunch spot. Parking is questionable and there's a long wait on sundays
Great breakfast/brunch location for some friends. It is a special place to go because it would not fit the college-student budget. The 60's feel of the place made it a fun time looking at all the decor while waiting for the food. The food was very simple but the flavors were great. I had the Chicken and Waffles and it did not disappoint my taste buds.
This spot knows how to take care of their customers. Regularly with a very kind approach. The food is affordably priced, constantly yummy and clean.
The staff are friendly and positive. They also work a lot to accommodate their customers
I always love the Friendly Toast, it is my go to place whenever I am in Kendall Square!
As a resident of seacoast NH< I have been going to the FT since early 90s and this place ROX! Eclectic retro decor, eclectic modern ingredient combos and friendly service. I have been to the Cambridge location three times and it has same feel as Portsmouth. On this visit I tried the BLAT, bacon lettuce avocado and tomato on cayenne cheddar toast .It was well done and I appreciated the edition of the avocado. Keep up the creative dishes and friendly service and I will keep eating at Friendly Toast establishments
Delicious. Went early (8:30a) on a Saturday so it wasn't busy. Our party of 8 sat down right away. Later in the morning the line can be pretty long. The food is dynamite, the atmosphere funky, the service solid.
Friendly Toast without waiting 3 hours? Insane. So pumped I discovered Seated and can now make a reservation here.
Waited half an hour, order of salad didn't arrive. Asked waiter, he said he would check, never got back to me. Told him we were leaving, he said "ok" and that was it.
The food here is solidly good, and the service is stunningly friendly. They have a lot of creative menu options, but expect more of a fun-mishmash-thrown-together-style dish rather than a deliberately executed plate. It s still very tasty, but it s not too far off from something you might throw together for yourself after taking stock of what s in the fridge.
Seating took an additional 20 minutes after the already 60 minute wait through NoWait. They were closing down tables in the back around 2pm even though there was still a huge wait? Server forgot to bring us coffee, and then forgot our toast twice even after being reminded. We asked to order an appetizer while we waited and the server said he ll throw it in , which we thought meant it would be complementary (since the wait was horrible) but instead we paid for it full price. (Which was fine, but then don t say you ll throw it in?) I ve been to Friendly Toast in the past but this was by far the worst experience I ve had there, I won t be coming here again in the future and I wouldn t recommend it to others.
Amazing combos, great food! Can have long waits on weekends (well worth it).
Had brunch here last Saturday and loved it. Great food, fun atmosphere, and reasonable prices. The only downside is the long wait, which is hard to fault the place for.
Food and Drink are always great here and the staff is friendly but since it is so crowded, they can be slow
I love the friendly toast. I've been to all three in the area now and no matter which one the atmosphere is amazing, the servers are awesome, and the food is my absolute favorite for breakfast (don't ignore the lunch menu, though!). Great food, great service. I recommend The Monster Breakfast, if you think your stomach can handle that much food! It's so delicious.
80s soundtrack like whoa. Great place. Awesome service. Good meatloaf Benedict!
Food is pretty good but no parking except the public garage that is $30 for 1-2 hrs.
Finally, after trying for 2 months, I've tried The Friendly Toast. There was always a wait of 1 to 1 1/2 hours for a party of three and we never wanted to wait. A great tip-sign up for the waiting list on Yelp. When your party arrives, you'll be seated right away. I love the decor and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. I would describe the menu as comfort food with twist. I had the French toast doughnut with scrambled eggs and veggie sausage. It came with a side of strawberry and habanero sauce with was delicious and a side of home fries. It was a great mix of savory and sweet. I also had a bite of the breakfast egg rolls. Amazing!! I definite must try. Many options to choose from and inexpensive. The reason I didn't give a 5 because the home fries weren't done and needed salt. I'll definitely be back and will recommend to my friends and family. Great experience.
Our first stop in Boston!! What a find!! Stop for breakfast. Great food and service.. fun Atmosphere!! We told them this was our first visit to Boston.. they recommend places to go and gave us a post card to mail back to our friends.
Awesome gluten free pancakes made on a separate griddle to avoid cross contamination. I've been to two Friendly Toast locations and both have been very knowledgeable about Celiac disease and made me very comfortable!
Great atmosphere, super fun, trendy and nerdy. Incredible food and drinks.
Absolutely loved the eclectic decor in here. The food was wonderfully done with options for just about everybody. The prices are a little high at first glance but with the portions you get, you won't be disappointed. Service is exceptional and your check comes with bazooka gum! Definitely worth visiting more than once.
Place is decent with impressive hours. Kind of up set they only have steak tips and not the whole sirloin. However the food was good not considering the grits they seemed creamy and fake. Moreover the Customer Service was Awesome. Oh and a good selection of beers as well.
I don't know about the food because every time I have tried to go, the wait is an hour or more. I have tried calling ahead to get a wait estimate, get on a waitlist, etc and it never helps. This was the last straw, I had friends come from all different states for a reunion and we wanted to go somewhere special for brunch. I explained this to them and they still wouldn't put our names down the morning of. She was rude on the phone, not sympathetic. I will not try to go there again.
I enjoyed my experience here, they have a great atmosphere and are accepting of large groups (you just might need to wait a little longer). Great place to bring friends or out of town guests. Large menu that can accommodate really any food restrictions whether it's vegan or gluten free, etc. The food is good, simple, comfort style. A little pricey but it's in the city so what do you expect?
The staff here are very friendly. The last waiter I had was so attentive that none of our water glasses or coffee mugs we're empty for long during our brunch. The menu here is large and it can get a little busy on the weekends.
I went there believing in the positive reviews. The food was disgusting... like bad diner food. Everything was soggy and lacked flavor. It was drenched with this sauce that must have come from a can. The bacon included in my meal wasn't even cooked well. The orange juice in my mimosa tasted like it was going bad. Interesting atmosphere though hence the second star. Will never go back for sure.
The food was good, and there were some vegetarian options.
Fun vibe with all types of chatzky Americana memorabilia. Good diner food with breakfast served all day
It was along wait for a table, but the food was great and the server was kind and attentive.
Great food but not as fun as the Portsmouth, NH location
Good breakfast place if you like a variety of creative options. We enjoyed our breakfast but some items oddly on each dish were cold, which shouldn't have been. Grits are a must have and the homemade breads - delicious. Staff is friendly.
This place sucks, dont ever sit at the bar because they wont care about you. Too noisy and too mainstream. I would give it a zero star.
Fun atmosphere and a menu that literally had something for everyone...especially vegans and vegetarians.
Great food, but you can't be a complete jerk...no matter how Hipster you want to be.
This place is an amazing brunch spot. You will wait an hour on weekends, but its worth it. Kill the time with one of their fantastic blood marys. the Ole Miss is our favorite dish but have never left disappointed.
A Boston classic! Make sure you arrive early to put your name down or add your name to the list via the yelp app! You can t go wrong with this restaurant. The food is simply delicious. Perfect brunch place!
This wasn t a bad place at all I was skeptical at first but the food was pretty good . I honesty got full of a huge breakfast sandwich that I had ordered & it was great. One of the few spots where you can get breakfast at all day . I ended up going at night to avoid the crowd & it was perfect. I would recommend this place if you are in the mood for breakfast late afternoon
The food here always taste amazing and the menu selection is pretty awesome. And the prices here are very reasonable too!
Great atmosphere, solid service. Deep all-day breakfast menu.
I want so badly to have a Friendly Toast near me. This place has the best post-apocalyptic kitchsy vibe. Couple the decor with the amazing menu and you have a spot that will be a must-visit every time I'm in Boston. The staff is funky and friendly and the teas are custom blends worth working your way through.
Friendly Toast is my favorite place for breakfast in Boston & Cambridge! The menu is really great for vegetarians and those trying to avoid gluten, and the atmosphere is really fun. Also, make sure to take home with you a loaf of freshly made bread.
Amazing Brunch!!! Waiting times can be longer than 2hrs so try book ahead of time on yelp
Fun for a casual night with friends. Great drink selection.
Amazing food, terrible wait times. We waited 90 minutes for a table after being told it would be 20 minutes. Everyone agreed the food was worth it, but we were quite frustrated with the wait.
Atmosphere is fun and lively but service and food is lackluster. I've received burnt food here twice now.
Recently we stayed in Cambridge for our Boston family vacation. We love having fun breakfasts but they can be challenging with our son s allergies to dairy and eggs. Yeah, that s like all breakfast items! The Friendly Toast was recommended and I cannot say NO to Kitchy breakfast places. We arrived with a short wait but the hosts were more than happy to supply my 2 year old with some paper and crayons and he was set. We were quickly seated and had the wonderful Nate as our server. Again, we are still in shock of how far ahead Boston and the area is about attention to Allergies than here in Chicago where we are from. Nate made sure to check on all of my son s food options and made wonderful suggestions for him including some fresh fruit on vegan pancakes and his own milk! (Soy Milk, not often found when out to eat.) He was happy!!!
My wife had a French toast that she enjoyed quite a bit. Based on my 2 choices I had narrowed down, Nate steered me to the Babe Benny and boy was it amazing! Homemade cornbread topped with dry rubbed pork, two poached eggs, hollandaise & a BBQ sauce drizzle .I was drooling over every bite wanting more! I just loved the BBQ sauce.
Nate kept my coffee warm and my son happy and that is always a great combo.
Highly recommend The Friendly Toast for any group and all ages! Once again, high marks to being friendly to those with allergies!
