Thunderhart is a nice secluded course. The fairways are fairly wide which is comfortable. Most of the holes are lined with thick tree lines, so beware if you're a slicer despite the wide fairways you still may lose a few balls. I played the course on a dry day so the fairways were rock solid, very hard to get a good hit off of. But the greens and tees were well maintained.
Nice course. I think it is a little expensive for the area, but the conditions are always good. I never make a tee time, and they are always snarky about it, but I always get out within 30 minutes.
Love this course and has great staff available to help you out with anything.
Great course, nice people reasonable prices, beautiful views.
Three main areas of consideration for a group of 4 travelling golfers (handicaps 7, 12, 18, 18). The 12 formerly 4. Rooms, food, golf, employees.
Employees: very helpful, always reacted friendly and quickly, includes pro shop, restaurant and office.
Golf: We played last year and enjoyed it. Not sure if water was an issue. We played all 3 courses in area going back 3 years. No ballmarks on green, no divots to pick up. Our group all competitive, but we enjoy our time, as we have done these trips 27 times. Golf was absolutely no fun at all. We did, however enjoy the yelling and screaming of tournament players (Booyah, boohah). Surrounded by carnival barkers and the volume went up as day went on (drinks?). Clubhouse staff, friendly and accommodating. Rating on course, D. Not sure if aquifers were dried up. Course layout is great. Probably no rain, but I can only rate on visit. we waited on some bad golfers, who eventually picked up and left .
Food: we ate in main room once and had breakfast at thunderhart, which was adequate except for broken toasters! Eggs good. Employees were very good. Food for dinner (chicken fingers were good, corned beef dinner reminded me of hospital food I had for 2 weeks, turkey the same). C rating at best on food overall, particularly the boxed dinners).
Room and stay was very comfortable, sheets all clean. View at sunset is very nice. Few branches need trimming, which hindered a great view. Never got a chance to get to pool area. Parking was very good (in out very easily). Rating for value B-B+.
That's it. Likely not returning. Course conditions on all 3 local courses the same. Not for us. Great people. JL
Had a great day, 18 holes and a great friend. Couldn't ask for a better time. Live thunderheart.
Challenging, well maintained, very accomadating, give it a try.We had a tournament here today ,and all went very well considering the weather.
Always a great time there staff is unbelievable just a great time always
I moved from r.i to freehold n.y this golf an resort and town is especially beautiful and full of kind warm home kind of feeling only 3 hours I don't know how we never knew of this diamond in the ruff prior to this a lovely place!
Reasonable priced. Nice course. Tight fairways. Hit the ball straight and you'll have a good day. A little crooked, you'll have a long day. Either way you'll enjoy yourself.
Staff was phenomenal. Greens were fast and course overall in great shape. !!!
Greens are tough, but in good shape. Views are wonderful and staff was very friendly. Owned by Sunny Hill resort. ..an old time very family oriented Catskill resort. Loved it.
Great people and terrific facilities, Thunderhart is the place to go for an outing for the weekend, or just a great round of golf. Their Stay and Play package is unbeatable, and you'll love the welcoming atmosphere and wonderful people. The golf course is fun to play, though it can get very dry in mid- and late summer.
Thunderhart Golf Course in one word, Challenging. What a place to lose yourself among the most friendly people you could imagine . Please, just for your own peace of mind, give this place a try. Bring a friend.
Course was in great shape and we had an awesome time without the crowds. Fantastic views and challenging golf but fair. I'll be back for sure.
Course was in decent shape.Greens were air rated but didn't affect the putting.Leaves were blown off nicely.
Course in great shape considering amt of rain. Very friendly staff
Great club pro, Kevin and staff. Go every year for an outing in August. Always a Great time
Kevin was the man and could not have been more accommodating for a group of us on Mancation.
The course was in good shape and the greens definitely made you pay attention to whats going on.
Went a little out of the way to play an 18 here due to a group golfer voucher and it was well worth it. The standard price of the course is reasonable as well so I may come back a few times next year.
The course itself is a little short but most holes are very narrow and/or have a well placed dogleg making it a challenge. The greens were in great shape for the end of Aug.
Positive experience all around.
Course has come a long way in two years very nice could use a little more work
Nice course kept in good shape. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.
Great greens, very affordable fees, staff always professional.
Tee boxes are clean and dressed. Greens are nice. Fairways are not the fullest with grass making it a big part of the challenge during place (hitting off hard surface).
Beautiful views of the mountains during play. Clubhouse is decent. Needs some updates in the dining area.
Kevin, club manager, is a great dude. He knows the game very well and is very friendly (good customer service).
Worked here when Ralph and Barbara owned it. Schmollingers pleasant Grove I think. We had a great time. It was a nine hole and we played alot, drank ALOT and it was a good summer every summer. I miss those days things were alot different and everyone is dead now.
1st time there. Course is very nice. Will definitely be playing there again.
Great course in the northern Catskills. The staff is friendly and the course well maintained. More challenging than the sister course, Sunny Hill, but still fun.
My wife and I visited Thunderhart several times this summer and we always have a wonderful time!
Golf - well maintained golf course with terrific views on every hole, challenging and playable for all levels. Good availability of tee times and a great pace of play.
Rooms - the rooms are very clean and well maintained with nice views of the Catskill mountains. We enjoyed swimming in the pool after a round of golf.
Location - we explored several areas during our visits (Woodstock, Greenville, Phoenecia, Hunter, Windham) and found this to be an excellent "home base" with scenic drives to our destinations. Plenty of great restaurants nearby.
Staff - the staff is what makes this place! The girls in the cafe always offer up a great breakfast with friendly conversation. The pro shop staff are always friendly and accommodating. I must say - Kevin makes the place! He treats everyone like family and is always on top of everything we need, often going above and beyond!
Thunderhart is our secret gem of a getaway that always makes us feel at home!
Don t go on a Saturday. We were three and a group in front of us took the liberty of forming into a group of 5. Pro shop didn t care. We asked for a rain check and they said we were still on time and didn t credit us 9 holes. We had played in 2 hours and 45 minutes, so I didn t think we were on time. We bailed after 9 because we didn t want to play a 5 1/2 hour round that the pro shop could have prevented.
Two groups in front of us were also a group throwing beer cans everywhere, pro shop didn t seem too worried about that either.
I ll take my business elsewhere.
They overbooked the course. We had an 11:45 tee time and weren t able to tee off until half an hour later as a result. Pace of play was horrendous: 9 holes in 2.5 hours. After we played 9 we make the turn and it s backed up because they allowed a 5-some in front of us, which is not only rude but against the rules.
Called it quits after 9 and we weren t even afforded a rain check despite them allowing the 5 some in front of us and, in their minds, we were playing on time . Uhm no sorry, 3 hours for 9 holes is not playing with pace.
Will not be returning.
