While I ve never been inside the Yale Club, I ve actually spoken at the Harvard Club but I digress this review is really to point out some interesting American Revolutionary War history on the exterior of the Yale Club. Thanks to the club for keeping this plaque here, I only wish more visitors, daily commuters and tourists would stop and read it. Please see the plaque on the 44th St and Vanderbilt Ave dedicated to Nathan Hale.
Nice facilities and great upstairs dining. Used to stop in for summer happy hours in the early days in New York. In later times, looked into stopping by the grill for lunch. As I recall there's something of a dress code, so if not wearing work attire, you should skip and go to similar restaurants nearby. Also stopped in for some evening talks.
A great place for this investors forum. I've been here many times and have only met quality people. The food is always top-notch and the service is almost invisible. I plan on going to many more in the near future. I highly recommend using this venue. You'll be happy you did.
Quite a remarkable place, I respect the Yale university & its prominence.
This place and it's "stick in the mud zombies" are full of themselves.
Used my Harvard club of Boston s sister club policy to get in. Good atmosphere, good food, and nice drinks. Only draw back is their no picture policy.
I've been a member here 20 years and this is my home when I'm in NY. One gripe: the gym is closed for renovations and the front desk doesn't make that known unless you find out yourself. Other facilities are available nearby.
Very large and busy but with some beautiful rooms. The rooftop is the best
The BEST! Love it here... rooms are very clean, excellent bathrooms with good showers. They do need to sort out water from the shower that tends to go all over the bathroom floor. Other than that, fantastic. The library is the absolute best.
The absolute class. An island of calm facing Grand Central

Members Only. The Yale Club offers a gym, restaurants, a library, overnight rooms and much more. Formal dress is required.
It's a private club, so you have to be invited or be an alumnus of Yale in order to good become a member. The club has a variety of features including a restaurant, ballrooms, and hotel rooms. It's the largest University club in New York City.
Cool inside, but you have to know someone who went to Yale, Yale Student or alumni
Stayed for a couple of nights during the holiday. Room was spacious for New York City standard and well appointed. I particularly liked the main sitting room and many nooks at the library.
Tremendous history to this building. Ivy league school, I prefer a different non old fashion style... Just me.
They have a great outdoor eating area set up. The food is absolutely amazing. It somehow felt both very healthy and indulgent at the same time! Great flavors. Very nice staff. The Ruben was my favorite. It was so tasty.
Met a half-dozen friends for drinks at the bar.....Bartenders quick to laugh and share a joke ...ambience is un-matched.....shhhhh......

Lovely place to be a guest invited for lunch or a drink. Pleasant and a little stuffy. Conveniently next to Grand Central Terminal.
Food isnt the greatest, but the rooftop bar in the summer is one of my favorite places in the summer
Of all the clubs of which I am a member, this is the best.
Wonderful place for a large group celebration. Good was delicious and service exceptional.
For members, this is really convenient and well appointed private enclave that has several bars and restaurants, and the location next to Grand Central cannot be beat. I don't know if I would attend Yale in order to get a membership, but for Yale alums it's a pretty good perk indeed.
This is a great club. Whether you are stopping by for a quick bite to eat or celebrating a special occasion, this is a wonderful choice. From the Tap Room to The Grille Room, the food is always great, the staff is super friendly, we are ALWAYS served with a smile and they do not mind going out of their way to make sure that you are happy. For example, I was there a few times and they remembered the type of Rose wine that I liked and even though it was taken off the menu they went to look in the back to see if they could find me a bottle that they might have had lying around. That was very impressive!! The outdoor dining space on the rooftop in the summer is a perfect way to enjoy a relaxing night out. The rooms at The Yale Club are kept very clean and the beds are super comfy. Great club, great service, great food!!
Great beer, food, and friends. I loved the great room on the second floor.
Very storied establishment opened in mid 1800's. I was pleased to be a guest.
Historic Midtown Manhattan Venue - Excellent customer service & special events staff!
Very posh crowd, obviously, library is great spot to study if you come here on time, restaurants are lovely. Gym could use a revamp but all in all great club.
Food was good but not great, bldg is cool and library is awesome.
I have been here many times and enjoy using their gym and roof lounge.
Well decorated . Must say they maintain discipline .

My wife wanted a classy, elegant affair and chose the best location, for her requirements, in the city. It exceeded our expectations in every way; from the impeccable service, to the quality of the food, the classic under-stated elegance of its surroundings and all the little things (the linen, the crockery and cutlery, the linen napkins, the candles, flower decorations etc.) that go to make a lunch for just under 200 people a truly delightful experience.
We started with the reception on the Roof Dining Room/Roof Terrace on a gorgeous spring day. There were two bars, one in the terrace and the other conveniently located inside. A mix of high cocktail tables and a scattering of cocktail tables and chairs, both inside and on the terrace. Tables were covered in table cloth, votive candles and nicely set Yale Club cocktail napkins complementing the elegance of the afternoon. Waiters passed silver trays of champagne at the start of the cocktail hour which was followed by full beverage service and eleven different hor d'oeuvres served seamlessly throughout the cocktail hour. Additionally, there was an attractively decorated buffet table with an assortment of cheeses, fruit and crudite. My wife had hired a pianist who played unobtrusively but added just the right mood for a terrific start. There was a table set for escort cards indicating table seating for our guests for the lunch.
For lunch we moved downstairs to to their lounge which was converted to hold about 19 tables, a dance floor and a conveniently located bar just outside the entrance and the wine service of pre-selected white and red wines continued through lunch. No tackiness at this joint. The table settings were just perfect and the service was simply first class. We kept our menu light: a goat cheese souffle-watercress salad with roasted red beets, spiced walnuts and balsamic dressing to start; for the main the choice was between grilled filet mignon served with scallion mashed potatoes, caponata, haricot verts and red wine shallot sauce OR miso glazed sea bass, wasabi scallion mashed potatoes, shitake stir-fry sweet chili sauce - I tasted both and was delighted with the taste. Desserts were a chocolate capucccino cup and a strawberry chocolate concoction.
Fabulous job Yale Club. They are lucky to have such an incredibly polished staff who know how to cater to every whim of their clientele. Special thank yous to Jim, our cocktail hour captain and Carlos, the lunch captain. As you can imagine all of this took a lot of preparation, yummy tastings and an accomplished point person who made the planning and all the little details that make or break an event of this nature, completely pain-free. This incredible person exemplifies the best of this august institution and we were blessed to have Dari Levine Rosalina guide us effortlessly through this in the most charming and hospitable manner. Thank you Dari!!
Great rates and great looking rooms in the city. Amenities are amazing and the staff are incredibly friendly. Would stay again. Boola Boola!
Do NOT stay at the hotel. The rooms smell really horrible and the rooms do not look like what is on the website. It's so dark even with all the lights we never wanted to stay inside- it's depressing. The carpet is old and dingy- seriously need to be replaced. Paid over $400/night and we had to call housekeeping to bring up toilet paper bc they didn't clean the bathroom and change out the towels. We have stayed at multiple other hotels like the Hyatt and Ritz chain and will be going back to them in the future when we visit NYC.
Great ambience, great food. Close to Grand Central Subway station
It is a members club but very, very nice and historic 'old boys' club for Yale alumni and faculty. (Women can be members too, of course.) Good food and great service. Service is what the club is all about. There are at least two nice bars, gym and guest rooms. I plan to restart my membership and start using the club. It can be impressive for business meetings and lunches.
Spent a few hours there yesterday as a reciprocal guest. My guests and I were ignored by the servers as were were trying to place food orders. When I finally decide to go see the bartender and ask for a food menu, he tells me that they are not serving any food, but were serving a burger to the lady sitting on my right and a salad to the gentlemen on my left. Glad I did not make any lodging arrangements there. Would not recommend for reciprocal guests from other clubs.
Wonderful luncheon meeting in rooftop restaurant and lounge on a beautiful sunny afternoon!
A venerable establishment with history and cachet. My first choice when making reservations in NYC.
Great club. I went to severl weddings here. They were beautiful and the food was great. It is a private club. One has to be an alumni of Yale, Dartmouth, or U of Virginia in order to use the facilities.
I've always regarded this Club as first-rate and 5-star....but just now see (from a list of my reviews Google just sent) that my earlier review from months ago incorrectly reads as 1, not 5 star!
Sorry about that! Probably my thumb on tiny smartphone keyboard error!
Beautiful granite bldg. not far from Empire State tower and Rockefeller Centre and Fifth Ave. shops...but NOT convenient for Lincoln Centre and most museums.
Excellent food and service and friendly staff. Fine well-stocked small library. Elegant never-ending common areas.
Not open to the public. You must be a member of this or of a reciprocal club from your city . If the latter, you do NOT need to be a Yale alum.
Definitely well worth a memorable visit.
Really nice conference/event space right next to Grand Central.
Very pricey and outdated but it's still beautiful n side
You get the old world feel of generations of the nation's power elite at the New York City Yale Club. The public spaces are ornate and the staff discrete. Just don't wear sneakers or jeans! The dress code has been relaxed but not that much...
This review is for the Tap Room on the 4th floor. I've been there many times for business lunches and am frankly surprised that I keep getting invited to have lunch here. The food is fine, nothing exception but consistently decent. However, the service is just terrible. I've probably been here at least once a month the last year and it never gets any better.
Don t come in April! They don t turn the AC on until May. 80 degrees in the rooms. All the front desk people can do is shrug and suggest that you open the window.
Had a great wedding in December - wonderful food, staff, rooms. Great memories. Thx again.
This review is for the Tap Room.
Service here is impeccable.
We have been here for dinners and lunches.
Every time we were treated with polite staff who are professionals and attentive.
Food is excellent, beautifully presented as well as tasty.
Highly recommend this place if you want to find excellent service and delicious food and somewhere make you feel at home.
Historic club with many memories made here, plus it's an effective way to stay connected with your school, alumni and keeping abreast w/ things that matter.
Upscale club. Went in there for an event. Staff were friendly and willing to assist when needed. The food was excellent.
