We stayed at the Windmill for four nights starting on August 3. This is not a conventional lodging review because our experience was not conventional. We were from way out of town (Portland OR, USA). During our visit the Windmill became our home base, one that we looked forward to returning to after a hectic day exploring London. Our room was quite nice, spacious with a stand-alone bathtub in addition to shower. The windows looked out over Clapham Common, and also the Windmill pub. Unlike some bars, the pub had no loud music (or any music) and we went to sleep easily with the cheerful voices of patrons providing a kind of waterfall in the background. The staff (hotel, restaurant, pub) were not necessarily the most professional, but they were unfailingly cheerful, kind and accommodating. At night they were a pleasant contrast to the understandably somewhat hardened attitudes of the tourist-herders of Central London. We breakfasted four times and dined twice in the restaurant, and were quite happy with the food. Breakfast especially had lovely juices, jams, good coffee. The 8 minute walk from the Tube stop to the Windmill was on the one hand a bit of a pain in the butt, but on the other allowed us to appreciate the Common, a vast flat park with cricket matches, people walking their dogs, sunbathers, neighbors with kids chatting, etc. By the end we felt almost part of the neighborhood. We are very glad we stayed at the Windmill.

They serve the most delicious homemade mulled wine. The food was perfect and the service was extraordinary. What made the visit even better was the honour of meeting Max, "the sausage roll supervisor".

Great venue but atrocious service (especially at the bar) every time I go. At weekends the queue at the bar is often 5-7 people deep, but just with two slow bar staff seemingly serving drinks at the slowest possible pace they can, in between texting on their phone or joking around with the other bar staff. Incredibly frustrating, and has since put me off going. Needs more bar staff at busy periods, and ones who don t take an eternity to serve drinks. They also mess up the orders regularly.

Been there several times for lunch and drinks, good selection of drinks on tap but food wise it's bit hit and miss. We've had some good dishes there but also had really bad ones. I had the burger for my most recent visit and the buns are stale and there were just few soggy leaves with the overlooked beef patties in the burger, was really disappointed. Would have given them 2 stars for the food quality of my recent visit but given we had good experience there in the past hence 3 stars.

I stayed at The Windmill in January and it was a fabulous experience. My room was stunning and so well designed - everything had been thought of, from the coffee machine and lovely tea selection to the universal phone charger and of course the decadent bath tub right there in the bedroom. If only I'd had someone to share it with! The ensuite was similarly well thought out and the bed was super comfy. It was a wonderful place to retreat to after a busy day seeing the sights of London. The food in the restaurant was great and I highly recommend the hotel breakfast with a huge choice of hot meals, pastries, continental style cold meat and cheese, and cereal. Delicious. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Windmill to anyone visiting London, whether for business or leisure.

This place has really upped its kitchen game in the last few years. It can still be very hectic on the weekend when the sun is out, but they do their best. You might end up in line for a drink for quite a while, as hundreds of people will be there.

The location is excellent with some off street parking, in the middle of clapham common. Really good selection of beers and ales on tap with the usual stuff behind the bar. Service was great and didn't have to queue very long even though it was really busy.

The Sunday roast floats in what is supposed to be gravy looking like a broth.
You have potatoes and some mashed suede in case it's not enough of the same thing... Any chef would know is redundant..
Ambience is nice.
Perhaps worth going back for a drink ...and the prices.. ridiculous ...the price for a 5 star meal while you get a lousy star in a good day.

I asked for no head on a beer so they gave me a wet glass which had no life, then the manager a short man with big man syndrome told me it was because i asked for no head. What a silly boy!!!!!!! And then our food arrived, with no cuterly, somebody even knocked on the kitchen door to ask for ketchup. That werent enough, they are over priced serve rubbish beer, table service is as bad as the beer. I wouldnt waste your time visiting unless you feel like you wanna be robbed

Lovely spot. Staff were soo pleasant and helpful. Great bar and food. Hotel entrance is a bit hidden could be better sign posted. A member of the barstaff walked me right to recption. Surrounded by park which was great in the good weather. Set back off the main road so traffic noise isnt an issue. Bus stop right there. Rooms are spacious and comfy. No complaints at all. Highly recommend.

Nice food in a great location (especially when it's good weather), but the staff had a really bad attitude when we were there. If you can look past that then it's a nice place for a Sunday roast.

Stayed at the Windmill for a business trip and was so pleased with my stay! The room was spacious and clean. The staff was friendly and very eager to make my time at the Windmill wonderful. The few meals I had in their restaurant were very good, and the atmosphere in the bar area seemed very fun and social- if I was local, I would definitely be a regular. Looking forward to visiting again!

Great food options. Check all the available menus to see it all. Several beers, one worth drinking in my opinion. Might give five stars if two of our meals didn't arrive fifteen minutes after the other three.

We were very impressed by the interior of this beautiful pub. The dome room is quite lovely and the dining room is bright and sunny. As it was a hot day we had chilled Aspalls cider before our meal. We both ordered the burger and it was delicious. Cooked just enough without being rare we both really enjoyed our visit. Just like the Terminator.. We'll be back...

Great beer in a nice setting looking partly over the common. Very difficult to get a table without booking. The bar area is pretty small but there is a large outside area, brilliant for the summer. The food is good but nothing spectacular.

Disappointing. Arrived at 11.30am the bar woman clearly didn't know the menu. Firstly they had run out of the bread which the roasted veg came on and wouldn't offer an alternative bread. Then she didn't know they type of eggs which were being offered. We then waits nearly 50 minutes for a chicken club Sandwich and eggs and bacon on a muffin. Then when it came the bacon was actually thick cut fatty ham. Really poor food and service for a Thursday mid morning.

Lovely location, beautiful decor and atmosphere. The service in the restaurant was slow even though it was quiet. Drinks came after the starter and our waiters understanding of English made ordering difficult. He also forgot our drinks. All of the food was very good but pricey.
My daughter dines here regularly and said the bad service was unusual.
There are bouncers at the door as this is a young busy pub. Unfortunately the smokers sit outside by the entrance where there are heat lamps. You therefore have to walk through a curtain if smoke to get in and out. I left something in the car and my four trips ensured that my hair and clothes stunk of cigarettes.

Definetly at pub aimed at the younger clientele. It is large, edgy and usually buzzing.

My husband and I stayed at the Windmill hotel for a week and it was lovely. The housekeeping here is next level- they would do all the expected things (make the bed, change towels and bins) but they also folded any clothes we left out, tidied all our belongings into neat little areas and paired our shoes. It was great to come home to such an organized room after a long day.
The room we stayed in was very cute and uniquely styled. It was also very warm indoors- we didn't use the A/C once. Bed was very comfortable! Plus full Sky bundle was available.
We stayed on the top floor, which was a lot of stairs every morning and evening. On the upside though we couldn't hear any noise from the pub downstairs, only a little chatter on the Saturday.
The service here is exceptional, all our questions were answered and nothing was too much trouble.

I highly recommend the Windmill hotel if you're looking for an authentic, pleasant stay (:

Held a small event here and it was great , lovely staff and beautiful hotel. The events team helped me plan a great night for my friends and I, I could not recommend them enough. A definite visit if you are ever in Clapham Common and want to spend your day or evening in a great pub!

I remember this pub when the bar was in the middle under a coloured glass dome, had nothing to do today so I popped in for a drink and lunch wished I hadn't had the latter!! I went for the salt brisket bloomer , there was a slice of beef cut in half which I rreakon was bought from the local supermarket, it had more wallies (gherkins in it to hide the fact there was no beef. Most of the staff are rude and up themselves, look at strangers as though they shouldn't be ion there, as I said I have been drinking in there on and off for 37 years and it has to be the worst I've ever seen
