Awesome staff, so attentive and genuinely kind. Beautiful views, relaxing setting, morning yoga was a perfect touch, not to mention the nightclub Addiction located on the property, both are free for guests. Just an all around righteous place to stay while you visit Honolulu.

I love The Modern Hotel in Honolulu. The location is great; it is on Ala Moana near the start of Waikiki. The staff is friendly and the property is clean. The adult pool allows us to separate from the families but is a short walk to the beach if you're not into pools.

Best looking hotel in Waikiki. Love the design and the upscale, yet chill vibe at this hotel. Rooms are minimalistic but well appointed. Great pool scene with tasty food and cocktails for lounging. Service is top notch throughout the property. I only stay at this hotel when I'm in HNL!

I was extremely let down by the poor service and reaction from the manager on duty when i informed them our room smelt like someone had a marijuana party.
My partner is pregnant and this want not at all beneficial for her health and the first reaction from the manager was to send someone up with a deodorizer. This was unacceptable as it was just masking the smell and not providing a solution. The room attendant came up and even mentioned the smell in the room was appalling. I asked to be moved to an equivalent room if not better as we shouldn't have been put in a position where we had to put up with these circumstances and we were moved back closer to the street and in inferior room in which we had to ask to be made up the next day at 3pm.

Not only is smoking in the rooms prohibited in the hotel its also is a massive health risk to my pregnant partner and the overall experience was completely ruined.

Had an amazing time! By far one of the BEST places I have stayed in Waikiki!!! I highly recommend this place, definitely better for couples and singles, not so great for families with young kids...

This place was amazing, all the staff treated us like family from the time we parked the car to the time we checked out. We felt so comfortable here not like being in a Waikiki hotel at all. We felt this was the closet thing to Maui we had experienced in Honolulu. I would definitely recommend the restaurant ravish. The drinks were beautifully made the food was spectacular and the service was 1st class. Thank you Gena Lawson for your assistance and your team of well trained staff. Forgot to mention Ruby from the massage place, ohhhh my she made my day, with the lomi lomi & hot rock massage, I didn't know i could feel this good. Mahalo

We're staying next door at the Ilikai. My wife went there to eat lunch by the pool for a little change of pace/different menu. She ordered and a couple of minutes later the manager came out and asked if she was staying there. She said she wasn't and he asked her to leave. There were dozens of people sitting around the pool but my wife was the only person who was asked if she was staying there. If people who aren't guest are not allowed to sit by the pool, then rules are rules, so be it. My wife is a dark skinned black woman... Who also happens to be a major in the airforce... We will be telling ALL OF OUR FRIENDS!

The room was clean and well furnished. You can tell the shower needs an update because the tiles are very old but everything is kept clean. The way beds are positioned, the AC is blowing air right at you so you can get cold at night if you set the thermostat too low. You only have a thin bed sheet to cover yourself with so.

Pool facilities are great and there is enough sun beds and umbrellas. They also have good food so you don't need to leave the hotel if you don't want to.

The only thing I was very angry about was lack of consistency. On one day the manager told us it's okay to check out late but on the next day the same manager said it's not okay . It's not okay.

Be careful, they will try to sell you a time sharing experience. Unless you're okay with spending 2 hours on a tour and listening to sales pitches, avoid the concierge like we did.

I was staying next door and decided to walk through the modern. I decided to stay for a quick bite and it was fantastic. I'd like to thank Chris Who dropped off my food for the local insight and information. I'll be back.

The Modern lives up to its name, in regards to decor and ambience.
The service received was average.
Very frustrating when basic amenities like water, coffee facilities, etc need to be requested. Housekeeping very basic, very inconsistent, often leaving behind dirty towels, or not attending at all.
Be prepared to pay above average prices on food and drinks, even during happy hour.

Day beds are very limited by the one "pool" which is quite small- so get in early.

Location is good, however a 20 minute walk to the nightlife of Waikiki beach and shopping.
Don't expect to get much sleep Thurs- Sat, if you're on a level below the 5th level, as the Addiction nightclub music sends bass vibrations through the walls, typically you'll feel your teeth chattering from 10:30pm until 2am.

All in all a nice hotel, but far from exceeding expectations.
The Modern has a good reputation, and our experience may have been the exception, but for the price, I'd probably look elsewhere next time we visit.

I was underwhelmed, this hotel does not live up to the hype. The service is very friendly, but over all there is nothing special about this hotel. Considering the price and the hype, it's not that good. The rooms are clean but average. The pools are okay looking, but it's just not THAT fancy.

The Modern is a really cool and hip hotel. I love the design of the hotel as well as the rooms.

Overall I felt the service was quite good from the bell staff, front desk and housekeeping.

I only had one meal at the hotel. I had breakfast with some colleagues. The breakfast was fine, but the service seemed quite slow.

For the price, I highly recommend staying at The Modern if you are visiting Honolulu.

Very much a luxury hotel. The arrival drinks in the lobby are refreshing. The bath products are outstanding. Staff are welcoming and nice. On site dining is average but it's nice to have drinks at the pool. Location is good, a little bit of a walk to get to the main streets or Waikiki but the marina access is great.

So bad.

So bad.

Many parts of the hotel are broken with no effort to repair (fancy using the pool after paying $60 resort fee, sorry sir it s closed).

Want to have a conversation in the lobby as you wait for your elevator...sorry no the sales desk will yell across the lobby to try to shame you into sitting down and hearing their timeshare pitch.

Trusted valet...observed a valet damage a car door and then try to hide it from the guest by standing in front of it.

No Aloha.

In the summer of 2014 this will be my fourth trip to the Modern Honolulu in two years! I absolutely love this hotels ambiance, service, and consistency.

For a young family I would choose another location with a more kid friendly pool area and more "to do" things around the hotel and it's surrounding area. However for a young single professional, or get away for a married couple this hotel is PERFECT!

I have even been in Maui for work and stopped specifically in Oahu just to visit the Modern and their amazing pool with their awesome pool side service for one day. It is a fitness friendly hotel with clean gym equipment, fresh apples, and charged iPads for our convenience. There is a decent selection of dumbbells. Wish there were more medicine balls, kettle bells, or TRX like toys but they could have updated it since summer of 2013. If you're like me and prefer to run there is a great boardwalk to get you right into the heart of the shopping districts and within a 2 mile run you're on the best Miami-esque (to see and be seen) style beaches.

The front desk is prompt and courtesy, the valet is quick and has an awesome memory, the pool side attendants are well placed and doting. Overall this place is an amazing experience.

Great view from the room. Room itself was just ok. Strangely dim hallways felt kind of like the twilight zone. Pool is beautiful but a bit cramped. Service was great from all staff. Bed was ok but not super comfortable.

The Modern has been nicely upgraded and is in a great location being close to Ala Moana Mall and Waikiki. My only gripe is that rates can swing pretty high... Often much higher than what it's worth for the given quality of accommodations.

I was really worried about the timeshare pressure from the other reviews, but it wasn't that bad. They do hit you right when you check in, but they didn't bother us the rest of the trip. The pool was packed and small, but the beach is right there which is nice. It's close to everything and our renovated room was really nice. We didn't hear any construction either like some of the other reviews stated. Overall we enjoyed our time at The Modern.

LOVE IT! Location is great, service was alright. My only complaint was that they didn't seem to figure out that they needed to supply our room for 3 people (even though there were 3 people booked into the room!) Would still definitely go back! Convenient location & smaller hotel which means it wasn't as crowded & wait times were shorter!!!

Went for drinks at the lobby bar, located in the Modern Honolulu hotel. Literally the hotel lobby bar, but locally known as "Lobby" bar. Decent selection and fair prices, with no restrictions on dress code makes this place a fun pre-game hotspot!

Over rated. New resort but rooms are just like any other Hotel most with no kitchens setup is the same as any hotel. One thing that is good is the resort is around the corner from Mini high-end shopping . A guest asked if they could store their bag uh from shopping and the resort deny them even though they stayed at the sister Resort for the company. She stated that they wanted to charge her $5 a bag.

Nice place that needs some upgrading and understand that that is in process as the adult pool was closed. The food and service in the eating area was terrific and indulging our palates poolside amongst trees and hanging lights was lovely.

Place was nice, stylish and had a great pool, when it was open. They have a habit of reserving the pool areas for external events. So if you wanna stay at this place to enjoy the pool be sure to check if its being used. The new manager who is an ass hat decided to kick out all the guests so some high rollers could use BOTH pools, when we were there.

If you are looking for a place to come to Honolulu I recommend this hotel ...!
We arrived at the hotel and we Antendiero super friendly and very professional.
The super comfortable room, with all the necessary accessories to make you feel at home, is fascinated with my room overlooking the sea.
The beach is 5 minutes from the hotel walking and also has 2 swimming pools for the comfort of the guests,
The hotel is close to restaurants, bars and other stores for personal use. This place is recommended to me one of my favorites until this moment.

In overall great experience, good service

In overall great experience, good service
But the pillows are awful, so you don't get good rest as it's not comfortable. Also problems to get get up from bed as beds are very low.
Also not sure why those windows from room to the bathroom are for? No privacy in a bathroom
Especially inconvenient if you are traveling with kids

$40 daily resort fee for just towel service at the pool... Had to ask for room switch because of several stains on carpet and couch. Was not able to be accommodated on our first night. But nighttime concierge was nice about it and able to comp a dinner.

I have stayed at the Modern for years and love the hotel. I prefer that it's on the quiet end of town rather than Madness of Kawakawa. The hotel is much more civilized than most with very few kids so it's great for business Travelers or adult vacationers without a bunch of kids. The 2 pools are great and relaxing and the pool restaurants serves delicious breakfast lunch and drinks. The avo toast in the bomb!!
The staff is awesome too. I only give four stars because the rooms are very small and need to be freshened up as they're looking pretty tired the last couple years. It's also pretty expensive and not right on the beach, though it has a super nice pool with mostly adults and you can walk to the beach in 2 minutes. Overall I love the Modern, it just needs to be freshened up a tad. I also think the rates are a bit high at times for the size of the rooms.

This hotel used to be a warehouse facility for the Ilikai Hotel. It has been converted into a timeshare facility that is clean, spacious and Mand die courteous staff. If you are looking for some quiet time around the pool though, it is best for you to opt for the beach as it is replete with children that, given their nature, continuously Splash about and Shout out. Otherwise, it is a fine facility.
