Staff helps you with nothing, they give general statements of "missing documents" without specifications or providing any list of what you need unless you beg. Along with this, housing is student ran as the "adult" staff are useless and never know what is happening in their own branch. The students in housing RAs are usually 17-21 year old young adults who are NOT qualified to handle to situations of monitoring a living space with multiple other young adults of the same age. With the RHDs being also pretty useless never aware of their RAs shortcomings. The dorms are either destroyed from the inside, filthy, or have some major issue like a broken AC (which in some buildings creates a giant oven putting some students at risk of heat strokes or fatigue.) along with multiple student peers having no respect for your personal space, sleep schedule or personal items with the RAs never taking action in these situations. Most times I've been met with a shrug. Finally, when handling adult staff, they come off as completely cold towards the students of VSU. I've witnessed students beg and cry over wanting to leave the dorms only to be denied over and over just so they can squeeze whatever money they can from these students VSU apparently oh so "loves and cares for" The adult staff seems to only care for their paycheck and not assisting the students, causing many to drop out. However the classes are enjoyable, and many of the Professors seems very passionate about the topic they lecture on leaving lasting impression, but even the Professors have gripes with the Staff of VSU repeating the same thing as coming off uncaring to other's situations or completely oblivious to their peer's actions. if you wish to attend VSU I recommend living off campus, as on campus living can and will eventually in your student career be a complete and total nightmare. Do not listen to VSU's advertisements the Faculty of VSU does NOT care for your students aside from a few handfuls of Professors. This review was not made by just my personal experiences attending this University, but also many students interviewed and questioned about their feelings on this campus.

Dining has always been a struggle. Also, the hours aren't consistent with a college. The student union closes at 11 pm and it definitely shouldn't close until 12 am or later. Housing has been improving over the three years I've been here. Dr. Chu is the best housing director ever!

The worst post graduate certification program. I dropped out after first semester. Julene Smith and Jamil Davis are two most disorganized human being on this planet earth. Do not waste your time enrolling in the post-graduate certificate nursing program because these two individuals will ensure you won t succeed.

A lot of people complain about VSU but it's honestly just because it's a college. All colleges are really good for is fairly crappy college food and rising tuition rates. Yes, VSU has it's down sides but so does every other state university you find. My experience has been wonderful seeing as that it has a big college feel with such a small space and student body (which is ideal for one on one class time). The campus is gorgeous and there's a great faculty here. All I can say is be sure you do your research before coming to VSU....or any college for that matter. See what you like and don't like before bashing it as a university.

This school was cheap, tuition wise, but when you actually start school more fees start to show up. It is a money school. It is a very small campus and it isn't very diverse. There isn't much variety in the food and some of the dorms are constantly having issues. The professors that I have encountered are okay but they don't seem to put in much effort. It gets boring here and there isn't much to do. I wouldn't recommend this school.

I'm a mass media major. The professors in that department are great. I know a lot of people think the school is bad for allowing Eric Sheppard to desecrate the US flag. However, Eric Sheppard was within his rights to desecrate the flag despite how horrible the act was. Logically, the Air Force veteran who was arrested was arrested justly because she was in fact taking a flag that did not belong to her. However, what is most disgusting about the situation concerning the school is that a few days later, Eric Sheppard came back and his group was threatening to shoot white people. The police did nothing at that point. There was a also a video of him on campus in an interview saying he was a terrorist towards lies, etc. It doesn't matter what you're a terrorist FOR, a TERRORIST is a TERRORIST! And the police did not act on that video either! How can we put the lives of the students in the police's hands if they're going to let things like that slide??? The housing office is almost unwilling to help you if a problem and run their department as a bureaucracy. The dining halls' food are not very good and the dining employees' attitudes are just downright sorry. They're always understaffed and lines for the food are often quite long. The school's top priority is MONEY. In fact, parking is paid in your tuition but you also have to buy parking passes which makes zero sense. And there's always a huge lot in the parking lots that are closed after a certain time at night so you have to walk super far to get to your car which is incredibly stupid. They just need to build a taller parking deck. It's not all bad though. The professors in the subject you're learning care about you and are passionate. The campus is also beautiful.

This so called University will have a veteran arrested, before they arrest people that are desecrating the American flag. the people involved should be sent to ISSIS. the school should be shut down and their police department should be as well send to ISSI for not defending the American Flag

Valdosta State was organized for entering freshman. The transition was smooth.

There is no reason on earth why a school would give a 10weeks waiting period to decide to accept or deny a student from a program. Nursing department in this aspect is trash. Beware this is the longest wait period on all nursing schools in Georgia. It's not worth the pressure. My cousin just wasted his resources and time applying. As we speak the deadline to the application was January 15 and she is yet to get a response. Everytime she or myself calls, they don't even answer the calls.

Great school to attend. Did someone step on a flag? Yes, was it a student? No. Great professors and students, our reputation should not be ruined by one person's stupidity.

I really enjoyed the Education program. I don't know about the other programs, but this one has great teachers that provide you with excellent opportunities. I recommend it.

It pains me to read all of these negative comments about a school that I worked very hard at for four years to receive a degree. I received an excellent education from a great staff that cares about its students. The actions of a few, very misguided individuals do not represent the University as a whole. The scathing reviews from other individuals on Google do not take into account the fact that the entire Valdosta community came together to show that the school and the city is a very diverse, patriotic place to be. This all happened in a non-violent manner. I do not condone the actions of those individuals in any way, but I hope that eventually people will see that VSU is still a solid choice to receive an education.

The school tries to suck you dry literally every chance they get, forced to pay for the campus gym even if you don't use it? Check. Parking pass even though you're already paying for transportation in your tuition? Check. Forced to pay for the bus transportation even if you have a car or plan on walking to shool? Check. The only thing they're missing is an air breathing fee.

I am VSU alum. It was a wonderful school and I received a great education. The campus is beautiful but beyond aesthetics the professors are top notch and really care about the student body. It is a diverse school and its reputation has been unfairly handled in the news. I love VSU and I am planning to go to grad school here.

Horrible!! Never gave my daughter a ticket but two years later they wouldn't give us her transcript until we paid an old ticket that we never knew anything about. Come to find out the girl at the front desk said she could have been in her car and they wrote her up and never got out to give her a ticket and they won't send you anything in the mail. How is this legal?? Sounds like a scam to me. They can't even tell us (my daughter and myself) where it was at when she got a ticket.

Although I've graduated, attending vsu was a huge mistake. Biology Dept is a joke. I did enjoy my chemistry professors. I should've stayed at Thomas university. They have much better professors.

I came to tour this school and meet with a particular department in my search for graduate programs. While I will spare you all the details of my program, I will comment on the hospitality and beauty that I have encountered since the second I stepped on campus. From the professors and students I met with, to the random facilities lady who stopped and talked to me, to the students who would stop to help me find my way, I felt incredibly welcomed. The campus itself is beautiful with its Spanish influence and adds even more to be admired about the university. While I still have four more schools to look at in my journey, I must say that it'll be difficult to top the experience I've had here at Valdosta State today.

Let Florida annex the university better yet the whole city.

Great school. Not every student was a part of the activities that went on about the American Flag. The school should not be looked at differently because of the acts of a few. Many opportunities are given. There are great professors and the school is so very beautiful. If you have not attended the university, there is no point in bashing it.

Crazy how people who have never heard of this university or even Valdosta,GA have the nerve to come on here talking crap. We have one of the prettiest campuses I've ever seen in my life. Also we have great programs regardless of what your major is. Our town is centered around football and other sports so of course we have a great sports program. Don't come on here talking about VSU if you've never even been in south ga.

As a former student...many years ago...can honestly say VSU was a superb college and an awesome experience. Born and raised outside of Washington DC, living in GA was a wonderful change of pace and I have fond memories from my time here... As a Computer Science undergrad (just 8 of us back then), what I learned here was invaluable. The teachers were fantastic. By the time I graduated I knew them well. Yes, had a couple duds along the way, but that's inevitable. Now as a Software Development Manager at Amazon my experience here set my career in motion. Small classes, good professors, solid curriculum, and the value proposition to avoid student loans for the rest of my young adult life. I am forever grateful to this institution. Kudos VSU. Keep up the good work. Just remember, college is what you make of it wherever you go. Get involved, make friends, study hard...very hard...and get to know teachers, especially in your major!

I think the actions of the students and more importantly the school administration are shameful and exemplify the lake of leadership that many of our institutions of higher learning are sorely lacking. I dont blame the students. They are mearly brainwashed products of a corrupt system run by unscroupulus men and women and unfortunatly they will live their lives blaming others for their problems and accomplish very little with the blessings they have been given.

Tell me why it's not in the news that VSU shuts the air conditioner in main working buildings and lecture halls to save money? Tell me why student dorm rooms have been reported to have broken air conditioning for more then 2 weeks with no maintenance being done? Tell me why teachers have given assignments to the students online so they don't have to be subjected to sitting in a lecture hall with an upwards of 300 students and no air conditioning in 90+ weather? The head office's have air... Why are professors and students having to deal with this? Shame on you VSU!!!

Those who are associated with the school (includes students, professors, administrators, alumni, or parents) should be the only people to comment or rate about Valdosta State. If you are not associated with the school, you do not have a valid reason to rate it, nor is your comment credible. How can you give your opinion about something you never experienced? It's like rating a restaurant that you only reviewed online. Makes no sense. I loved this school! So, five stars in my book!

This school doesn't really care for the student body. They are not being very stricked with their covid rules, and they would put up special events all over campus and social media , only to cancel them a week or two early .

I only spent 4 quarters here as I went back to the school I started in. I loved it here with two minor exceptions. I had a mean/snotty roommate [that isn't the university's fault] and I had a tricky teacher. Didn't care for her or her ways. I doubt she is still there since I attended from 1983-1984. I thought the campus was beautiful.

I am a graduate of Valdosta State and I loved all 4 years I spent here. College is what you make it. A lot of the negative reviews on here are from people that did not even attend this university. As a student who was actively involved I can tell you that VSU offers a beautiful campus with well rounded academics and amazing athletics with multiple national championships. The campus is close to the beach, there is a lot to do in the city of Valdosta (example: Wild Adventures Theme Park, Grand Bay, etc.). I loved all of my professors. I was a business student and really enjoyed the brand new North campus. I lived on campus my freshman year and that was one of my most enjoyable years, meeting many of the friends I have today. If you enjoy the outdoors I highly recommend joing C.O.R.E. I went sky diving, white water rafting, and camping with them several times. I could go on and on about my experience. I toured many schools in Georgia and fell in love when I walked around the campus of VSU my Junior year of highschool. I would highly recommend this University for anyone.

I currently attend Valdosta State. What a GREAT decision I made!!!

My son is a senior in high school at Blakely Ga.. He was considering Valdosta because of friends. After seeing how law enforcement and school security treated one of our vets, I will never drive through the town of Valdosta. What a disgrace. I hope you can keep that school open with flag stompers.

This school needs to be closed. Two of my RA's slept with my ex. People will regret it once they graduate from this school because of the outdated courses . I wasted my money in Valdosta State Unversity.

My husband and I are astounded that you would allow a bunch of spoiled brat students and malcontents walk all over the Flag of the United States of America, then turn around and have a 14 year veteran who put it all on the line to preserve our freedom and Constitution charged with trespass for picking up the flag to keep it from further desecration. While free speech is one thing, desecration of the flag under which so many have served and bled to preserve that right to free speech is disgusting and against everything this country stands for because that desecration insults those veterans and telling them their sacrifice means nothing.

I didn't care for my time here but that's just me. I say go somewhere else. The vast majority of the professors I had were unhelpful and didn't even know who I was after several meetings.

This college is great and I am so proud to be a student here! I hope people will stop hate VSU only because of this horrible action of one of the students. Believe me or not, VSU DOES NOT support his actions, students and faculties DON'T support it either. It is so sad that this influences our beautiful college in terms of education. VSU has very strong community, great professors and talented students. We have many successful stories, we have a lot to be proud of. Together we can go over it and build our authority again.

My experience has been top shelf. Fabulous, dedicated faculty. Diverse student body. And I am an old-head Undergrad at 56 years old.

I love VSU for the people more than anything else. The main reason I chose to attend VSU was because there are some fantastic people here on campus, from Professors to Deans to students. Yes, there will be some people you do not agree with, but overall I have found professors to be receptive and willing to help further students in their careers as students and future employees/employers in the real world. I love the weather and acclimated to the temperature(s) quickly. Invest in rain boots and an umbrella for spring rains if you come here. Do not rely on the buses to get you to class on time; professors will not take that as an excuse. Most everything is centralized on main campus, so the bus is only necessary/an option if you live in Centennial, off campus, or need to get to North Campus (business school). I encourage everyone to get involved on campus; I met my group of friends from living in Reade Hall, but I'm involved in HSA, ALD, the Odradek, Dance Marathon, etc. There are TONS of ways to get involved on campus and in the community and make a positive experience out of your time spent in college. Give back while you have the time and ability to do so. Meet people. Have fun but remain responsible. There will always be drama, and the media will always latch onto that drama. Visit the campus, meet some people, decide if it's the place for you.

Posted 2015-It is easy to fully support laws that benefit you; and perhaps easier to criticize laws that go against what you believe. Although it may offend many, Constitutional rights allowed for the treatment of the flag to be legal. All of these recently negative reviews seem to be based on the school and its officers upholding the laws of the United States. To say the least, this reaction is undeserved and unreasonable. The school did what was right under the law, whether we agree or not. Misplaced negative attitudes are what create disunity in the world and cause the innocent to suffer the consequences of a few. These events should not continue to take away from children's education. Valdosta State University is a great school and university staff, police and students should not be unjustly penalized for these recent events.

I am a current student as well as my husband! We love our school! The campus is beautiful and we go on walks all of the time. It is also the only school in Georgia where I can get my degree (ASL interpreting). Our school has been inaccurately covered by the media in the past. We are a school that is very diverse and I'm proud to be a part of this community! Go Blazers!

All this school wants and cares about is MONEY. Coming here was one of the biggest mistakes I ve ever made. On the first day, it was completely unorganized. Nobody even asked or cared to help the people moving into their dorms. I had to take all my stuff, BY MYSELF, to my dorm on the FIFTH floor. I live in Langdale right now, and it is awful. Taking the roommate survey is a complete waste of time because they will pair you with whomever they want. The dorms are disgusting. Georgia Hall and Centennial Hall are the only dorms worth staying in. The RHD at Langdale is rude, and she never does her job. I think it's important for an RHD to not pick favorites and to be able to help/listen to her residents whenever they need her. She doesn't do this at ALL. I have had two roommates, who both constantly used and stole my stuff without permission. Even when the roommates admitted to the RHD what they did.. She didn't do ANYTHING about it. The only time something was finally done was when one of the roommates let their friends sleep in MY bed while I was away. That is unacceptable. During winter break, I had ankle surgery. I came back to Valdosta having absolutely nobody care to help open doors for me or even help me in general. Langdale doesn't have a handicap shower that I could use which I think should be mandatory. Carrying my shower caddy while opening a door and jumping over a ledge into a shower all while on crutches was difficult and ridiculous. All residence halls should have handicap showers. I will never walk inside the bookstore again. They overcharge students for USED books. Also, I was charged over $100 for a book that I did NOT rent. When I asked the head of the bookstore where the receipt was showing that I rented the book, she couldn't find it, of course. I ended up having to pay for this book I apparently rented because if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to register for classes. The parking deck is forever away. Yes, VSU has shuttles that take you to the parking deck, but you could walk there and back before a shuttle even gets to you. The parking personnels give you a ticket no matter where you park regardless of how long you've been there. Even if you're in a 45-minute parking spot and you just got there, you're getting a $15.00 ticket. Now that doesn't seem like a lot of money, but it sure does add up when you continuously get them. They usually don t take the hold off of your record after you paid the ticket until you ask them to take it off. You have to be advised by an advisor before every new semester in order to be able to register for classes. Which honestly, I think that s good, but not if they do not know how to take notes and keep up with who has been advised or not been advised. I went to my advisor and got advised, but they did not raise my flag in order for me to register. I ended up having to wait FIVE days to get advised AGAIN to register for classes. I showed up on time to my appointment when my advisor was 30 minutes late. By the time I got advised and was able to register, every class that I was going to take, which was 14 hours worth, was gone. The dining halls are disgusting, and the food is nasty. It's not even worth eating. Studying here, I have only had a total of two good professors. One of which is Donna Sewell, an English professor. She's great and she taught me a lot. The other professor I loved was Jimmy Taw. He was my History professor. I enjoyed him thoroughly. The only thing that I have liked about Valdosta is the gorgeous campus. I think I would have a different opinion on this school had my first year been better. This school was not for me, clearly, and I can't wait to leave. I just hate I wasted my first year of college at this university. Good luck to anyone who decides to go here.

I will forbid my children from ever applying to your university. The dishonorable actions of your student body as well as your administration warrants every parent to relocate their children to a university which honors and reveres the United States of America's values, pledge of allegiance, flag, and those who volunteered to sacrifice and serve so others could enjoy freedom. These students and the university administration are a disgrace to this entire nation. You and your students have dishonored the memory of our forefathers who established the Declaration of Independence as well as the U.S. Constitution. They dishonor the memories of all those who have sacrificed their lives before any of your lives were even a thought. Your administration's lack of action to discipline those students for dishonoring their nation is abominable. The veterans, the national guard, the reservists, the active duty personnel, and the AFROTC Det 172 located at your campus are all offended and highly disappointed in your campus student body's lack of regard for their own nation. If your students hate the United States of America, it is a free country, they are free to depart and renounce their citizenship. As a parent, my children will never go to your campus. Nothing short of shame on you and your student body. Those students take for granted what they have been provided. If it were any other nation, they would have been beaten, jailed, and sentenced to punishment. They absolutely have no appreciation for what others have fought for. Utter disgrace and disgust.

it sadness me that the actions of a few students changes the whole perception of the school for non VSU students. Everyone doesn't agree with what took place, and some people do, its diversity. Aside from the flag issue, since this isn't a review or column of how you feel about what to place at Valdosta State University, going into my senior year I honestly believe VSU is a great school. I had difficulty deciding on a major for a while and there are all sorts of faculty and staff who supported whichever choice I made. Outside of class the events held weekly on campus are amazing and creative. For example the oxygen bar that was brought during finals week to help us relax. I believe everyone who works for VSU cares about the student body and do all that they can to make our college experiences the best ones.

Ghetto University for ghetto students. Don't come here but if you do, stay away from the Remerten bars. It's a trap for a jail ticket.

Crazy how people who've NEVER even heard of Valdosta State, let alone Valdosta, GA come on here and give the school 1 star ratings. Y'all really have nothing better t do? I LOVE MY SCHOOL!!! VSU!

Want to go to college and live close to Valdosta? You are in luck because there happens to be a university here! I know! It's not FSU and people might not know where you graduated but gosh darn it, it's an accredited school! I personally know some of the professors (plus my wife graduated from here) and I can assure you, you will receive a worthy education. Plus, it is cheaper than other larger schools which helps.

As a graduate of VSU i employ those of you who know nothing about the school and who probably dont have college degrees or served in the Military to think,investigate,and research before you post ignorant opinions. Do not allow one incident to sway your ideas of what this University stands for,all students at VSU did not participate and do not support the actions of those who disrespected the American Flag. Get your facts straight before you tarnish the reputation of an Institution of Higher Learning. Dont speak on what you dont know. I am a junior at Valdosta State & I LOVE IT! :) Many people led me to believe in high school that if you go to a cheaper university, you would have a crappy experience and miss out on what college is all about. That is NOT the case with Valdosta State! Not only have I been able to afford to come here, but I also have become super involved on campus, made new friends, and experienced memories that will last forever! I love being a part of Blazer Nation, and TitleTown is THE place to be. Every school has its problems, but I believe Valdosta State exceeds the bar many students create & set when looking at future colleges.
