In response to the Stratfords reply:
I will be contacting Sam, as suggested, however the owner (who responded) did not address any of my concerns. It appears to be a stock reply with a little minor personalization thrown in. The QUALITY of the food has not been addressed, and therefore will require further discussion. I am horrified that so many amazing people are forced to tolerate the low quality of food offered at the Stratford. Many cannot drive, and they pay good money to live and dine here.

I highly recommend that you go there for dinner if you are considering living here or having a relative live there. See for yourself.

REVIEW
The Stratford claims to be a 5 star Senior Living Facility. Excluding the dining, I would agree with that. The events are plentiful and varied, and the homes are beautiful. Including the food, the rating comes down significantly

We are visiting my husbands grandmother here this week, and I am appalled at the quality of the food served here. A big portion of the senior living experience is dining -not to mention the importance of nutrition and quality for health and well being.

MANY of the residents here -including our grandmother- are unable to drive themselves to restaurants. Even those that can, should NOT be forced to do so due to the quality of the food they are serving in their dining hall that they are PAYING for.

If you are considering living here or having a loved one live here, consider this review, and the food. You will be dining three times a day for the rest of your life. Do you want to be subjected to eating in a dining room that serves meals that are largely inedible, expensive, and poorly prepared? I know I would not.

The Stratford needs to re-evaluate the quality of the food they are choosing to serve, and it needs to CHANGE.

I have lived at the Stratford for 7 years and have made many friends. The staff is very competent, doing everything they can to make our lives safe and happy. It has been one of my best decisions.

I am very happy with my selection of the Stratford as my home for the rest of my life. It meets all my needs with quality and elegance mixed in, not to mention the excellent food. The staff honestly care about the residents, and it shows loud and clear from time to time. Nothing is perfect, of course, and there are little speed bumps from time to time, but they are very minor compared with the overall benefits. These are my honest feelings.

Leo and I moved to Stratford in January, 2021. We had spent time looking for an independent living home. Stratford was our choice. When we arrived we met Grace and believed we made the correct choice. Grace made sure we had everything we needed. Her kindness and assistance was far more than we expected. While we have not been here for a long time, our experience so far has been very good and we are happy with our choice. We give Stratford a Five Star rating.

I was an employee at The Stratford (a Senior Living Communities community) from 2017 to 2021. Located on the west side of Carmel, IN, The Stratford is situated amongst The Villages of West Clay, which is one of the most beautiful & sought-after master-planned communities in the state of Indiana. There is no shortage of amenities at your doorstep with immaculately landscaped parks, fountains, walking trails, bike paths, & the Villages of W.C. has it's own "downtown" area with restaurants, shops, businesses, including a new branch of the Carmel Public Library.
Not even 1 block away there are 2 banks, a Puccini's restaurant, liquor store, & a CVS.

Without hesitation I can say that this is one of best companies for which to work. All of the various department Directors are fantastic people who care about people. The Executive Director of The Stratford, Sam, is amazing. He truly cares about the residents & team members. Sam is perfect for that role as he is personable, affable, empathetic, intelligent, humble, hard working, accessible, & energetic. For those considering working here, the benefits are outstanding, even for part-time employees.

The Stratford is beautiful inside several courtyards for the residents to enjoy. When the weather is nice, residents can enjoy a Friday evening happy hour in the main courtyard sitting by the big fountain whilst listening to a musician. Ice cream socials & the 4th of July buffet are also fun events in the main courtyard.
There's also a huge gym area leading to the beautiful indoor pool & hot tub. There are multiple libraries where one can enjoy a book by the fireplace or see a movie in the large theater.

Last but certainly not least is the Dining Room. During non-Covid conditions, it looks like a beautiful fine dining room with white linen tablecloths. There's also a full bar with large TV where some residents enjoy sitting to enjoy an after-dinner drink while watching TV & a Private Dining Room available for a large family gathering, birthday party, or any special event.

If you, or someone you know, is looking for a job where they can make a difference in peoples' lives & at a fantastic company, The Stratford is currently hiring in various departments. And if you or a family member is looking at nice retirement communities, The Stratford certainly warrants strong consideration.

I was in need of a senior living community as my husband had passed and I was living alone. I had friends who were living at three different facilities but now it was time for me to make a decision for myself. I visited all three but after spending time at the Stratford I knew it was for me as it met most of the criteria I deemed desirable. It's a rental community, offers underground parking, the dining room, card room, library and other offices are not far from the elevator and it has a heated pool! There is also a beautiful courtyard right in the middle of the whole facility. Those were the items that initially attracted me to the Stratford but, since moving here I have found so many more features that I didn't know existed. The staff is wonderful. They are friendly and always ready to help with anything. The social activity program is the best! We take all kinds of trips on our own bus. We have special celebration dinners, happy hours, painting & crafts classes AND are within walking distance of a cute little village and it's shops.
What more could I ask for? This is such a friendly place! This is the Stratford! This is HOME

My father lived at the Stratford for over 9 1/2 years until he passed away. He enjoyed it so much and he felt that he had a great quality of life there. He made great friends, enjoyed the food, services, events and various projects that he was able to do there. His individual residence was nice and very comfortable for him. Thank you for your great care.

This is a beautiful community! I am the DM for Rejuvenate Salon and Spa and we are the salon vendor in The Stratford. It is one of my favorite communities to visit! The staff is so friendly and helpful and Sam Carrillo ( executive director) is a fantastic person. I would absolutely recommend this community for your loved ones.

I can t say enough about the Stratford in Carmel. The staff, starting at the top with Sam, creates a caring, welcoming environment. The units are beautiful, and there are so many different styles. My mom had a spacious two-bedroom apartment that fit all of her furniture, even her formal dining room table and china cabinet. The kitchen was larger than other places we visited even though she didn t use it much because the food in the dining room is delicious. I especially enjoyed the Friday night buffets and meeting some of mom s friends over a glass of wine before dinner. The ice cream social and themed dinner nights were also fun. My mom also loved the indoor pool which was the warmest pool I ve ever been in, and she enjoyed fitness classes every morning. I know my mom was much healthier, happier, and active because of the wonderful people and amenities at the Stratford. It s definitely the best place in town!

We have finally found a beautiful home for my mother-in-law. The staff here is always caring, responsive and looking for ways to give us the best possible experience. Lisa, Cynthia and the whole team at Stratford make this the best senior living facility we've ever seen.

I can t say enough about the excellence of the Stratford. Our parents have lived in the Independent Living section for several years, and have reached the point where they need additional care. The team of Sam, Janice, Cynthia and Grace has helped us in reaching the best decision for our parents unique situation. Although these four have a thousand different demands on their time and attention, they made us feel like we were the most important people in the building, meeting with us and guiding us through the complicated and sometimes difficult decisions we had to make.

From the front desk receptionists to the maintenance worker who calls my mom by name, you won t find a more supportive, dedicated group of people to entrust with the care of a senior family member.

My siblings and I know that the primary goal of the wonderful people at the Stratford is to provide what is best for each resident, and we are confident that there is no one better to offer this level of quality and personal attention to our aging parents.

I used to work at a senior living community, so there are certain things I was focused in on when it came to a home for my in-laws. The first thing that stuck out to me is that the Executive Director greeted every one of the staff there by name as we walked through. You know, that's not always the standard. On top of that, everyone there is smiling (residents and staff). Everything is exceptionally clean, with an eye for detail, and it truly feels like a community there! I also love how it's a part of the greater Village of West Clay community, thus making it not feel so isolated. I would highly recommend The Stratford to any senior looking for a place to call Home!

The Stratford is a superior community

My company has been a vendor with the Stratford since 2010. Every time I have had the pleasure of visiting the community, I have always been impressed with the interactions with staff, how caring and nurturing they are with each and every member. Their exceptional style of living, unlimited amenities, a social calendar that activity engages each member, and a premier wellness program. It s noticeable that from the executive director to the managers and staff their goal is to provide a high quality of life for everyone that lives there.

My dad and my aunt have lived at the Stratford in Independent living for almost 2 years now and thoroughly enjoy the community. From the day we started to plan the move in with the excellent assistance by Grace , they were very accommodating with our move and made them feel welcome from their first week as residents. Joe and Stephanie, as the social directors, go out of their way to plan events for the residents and encourage participation whether the event is on property or off property. They have excellent restaurant - style quality food with an ever changing menu for variety. As they were relocating from Ohio, we researched many options before choosing the Stratford as their new home and have been more than happy with our choice!

My husband and I decided to move to independent living at The Stratford while active and still healthy so that we could enjoy all the activities and amenities of the Stratford - we are in our late 60 s. We have been very happy with our choice. It s like being on an upscale cruise the food is excellent and varied; exercise classes and activities are fun; the staff is very friendly and accommodating; there is a nice beauty salon and large indoor pool; our apartment is cleaned weekly; and when needed there are physical therapists on site. Our apartment has lots of light and a very pretty courtyard view. We greatly appreciate the friendly atmosphere and socialization.

The Stratford is a beautiful community located in the much desired, West Clay Village. I have worked with The Stratford as a vendor for several years and it is evident that the staff care about the residents as if they were family. The administrative, sales, and maintenance teams are extremely cooperative, and clearly have their residents best interest at heart. I would trust The Stratford with my own family members in a heartbeat.

My parents have been living in the Independent Living side of the Stratford for almost three years. We are very happy with the way the facility is run and the attention to detail my parents receive. The staff is always ready to assist in any way as circumstances require. Everyone from reception to dining room staff, maintenance and of course upper management are warm, caring and ready to provide help as needed.

It s a very nice community. I highly recommend the Stratford to anyone looking for a nice environment for their loved ones or for themselves if they have reached a point in their lives when caring for a home and all that entails is no longer a feasible option.

The facilities are beautiful in a setting where the residents can easily take a walk outside in a park-like setting, and the staff members are caring and polite. They all seem to know everyone, residents and visitors alike, and address them by name in the common areas. Any concerns we have had are addressed promptly and effectively solved by the staff.

The reason for the loss of one star is the food could be better it s not bad, but could definitely be better. At the meals, it would be nice to try to integrate new residents into the community more easily.

Overall, The Stratford is a great place for my mother she has been there a year and a half, and she really likes it.

The staff of The Stratford have been amazing during the pandemic. They have kept my mom safe and have made sure that she has the opportunity to order meals. They ve brought the meals to her, her newspaper that she orders, her mail, and have quickly delivered to her things that the family brings. They ve been fantastic and it s much appreciated!

My parents lived at the Stratford starting in an apartment and then my mother lived in the skilled nursing unit for the past several years. The facility is beautiful and very well maintained. The residents were very friendly and my parents were able to easily create new relationships. I am glad that they selected this place to live.

This place is senior living at it's best. It's good for people who don't need a lot of help and people who need a little bit more. All of the staff are amazing and willing to help in any situation. They really go out of their way to help their residents with all of their needs. I would highly recommend.

I spent considerable time looking for a place to stay after living in a house for 30 years. After interviewing at least six other facilities, I chose the Stratford and after four years here, I'm very glad I did. My first reason for choosing the Stratford is that it is strictly a rental facility. Other positive points are their underground parking, wonderful formal & casual dining options, nice sized units, great staff, very friendly residents, and a large activity schedule which can keep you as busy as you might want to be including trips to the grocery, drug store and bank etc. and all are free. The Corona virus was a problem, of course, but was handled extremely well. They also have a Newcomer's committee to help greet new residents and get you started on life at the Stratford.

My husband and I have lived at The Stratford for 3 and a half years. During that time I have recovered my health. So, now, we are able to relocate and no longer need Independent Living. Our experience has been very positive and appreciate the staff and the services provided.

I was in the Retreat at the Stratford from August 3 untill Sept 4, 2020. During that time had had the privilege of excellent care from three ladies from the Genesis Therapy Team.
I had Stacey, Katya, and Christina. They helped me each day and I was able to recover my strength in such a way that I made excellent progress. I enjoyed being with these specialists and felt they had become my friends.

The Statford is a beatiful place to live. My parents have been in Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing and have received amazing therapy in all three places. The therapy staff treats you like family. They are so thoughtful.

My father lived at the Stratford for 9 1/2 years from age 82 1/2 to 92 in independent living. I remember him saying shortly after he moved in that he didn't know why he didn't do it sooner. Once he told me that this was the most stress free time in his life. He felt safe and comfortable. He was proud of being able to live in a beautiful place. He met some really good people who became great friends and dined together nightly. He enjoyed the socialization and the fine dining at dinner but still enjoyed making his own breakfast and lunch in his apartment. There were many good trips that he went on such as a lavender farm, museums, basketball games, farmer's markets, restaurants and a wide variety of grocery stores. He attended exercise classes and enjoyed working on puzzles and reading in the library. He served on the resident board for a couple of years and even took a trip with board members. His apartment had large windows and was bright and sunny. Maintenance was always prompt. Staff was professional and caring. The underground heated parking garage was awesome. We celebrated many special occasions, usually Sunday Brunch at the Stratford and we always enjoyed the food. I don't think there could have been a better place for my father to live, in the last years of his life.

I love entertaining at The Stratford. As a vendor who provides music entertainment at over 50 retirement communities across Indiana, I appreciate the detail they put into every event in which I have been a part. I look forward to every visit. I cherish the deep friendships that have developed with many of the staff and residents.

My mother lived at The Stratford for nearly seven years: from independent living to assisted living, then to memory care, and finally to skilled nursing care. She had a great experience there, made friends, and participated in exercise activities and arts outings. I wish she'd taken better advantage of the many activities offered. There are many -- I tried to convince her to participate as often as possible! The staff was with my Mom and my family until the end. I recommend The Stratford for any family that wishes to create a comfortable, active, and safe environment for their parent or loved one.

My 89 year old Dad's short trip to the pharmacy several blocks away...

In the midst of these uncertain times and pandemic, my Dad decides he will take a short trip around the block to pick up several items at the pharmacy. When his car wouldn't start, along comes Brian Akers, an employee in the kitchen who was just getting off work. Brian asked my Dad if he could help get his car started and he accepted that offer. Twenty minutes later Brian brought back jumper cables and his red truck. Minutes later Dad was on his way. This was such a wonderful, unexpected Good Samaritan Deed - a young man just getting off work and free for the rest of his day, taking his personal time to help my 89 year old Dad who sat in his car cranking his battery in frustration. What a wonderful act this was but it so truly exemplifies The Stratford staff of employees - always smiling, always caring, always trying to provide comfort and love! My 88 and 89 year old parents are absolutely living and thriving at The Stratford. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart!

Being in the healthcare industry, I love having a resource like the Stratford to lean on! My experience with Ann Buttery is always exceptional and I know when I send families her way she will take care of them as if they are her own! I always have peace of mind when working with her!

I have some very "independent"parents approaching their mid 90's who have reached a point of needing assisted living. They didn't see it, but their four children did. With failing bodies and memories, it was time. Actually, beyond time. After researching and visiting many Indy area retirement communities, The Stratford stood out.

The place is wonderful. And a far cry from the "nursing homes of the 70's" that our mother dreads. Undoubtedly however, the best part of the experience have been the folks at The Stratford who helped make the move achievable. In particular Ann Buttery, whose tireless work and calm demeanor guided my parents and us kids through the tour, the paperwork and the emotional hurdles. It never would have happened without Ann.

While it's only been a few weeks since Mom and Dad have moved in, we all have a deep sense of gratification knowing it was the right choice. And the right place. Although they are still adjusting, it seems all the things they need, and all things we kids worried about, have been wonderfully addressed.

So if you are out there and considering a similar move.....we've done your homework for you. The Statford passes the test with high marks.

The Stratford has been the perfect home to both my Mom and my MIL, the past 4 and 3 years. The facility is beautiful and their independent living apartments are lovely. The underground parking provides safe access for them, and dining room food is tasty with a nice variety. Before the pandemic restrictions, there were many scheduled group outings taking residents to a variety of shows, outings and activities. The most important part of The Stratford is the staff: they are friendly, know the residents, are accessible, are involved with the residents and treat them with respect, and they create an A class atmosphere for all.

Helping us make the decision to move to senior living was assisted by The Stratford s Ann B. and Grace S. They were there every step of the way and became our new "friends," even after the move. Staff has also helped make milestone events during the pandemic (birthday, family wedding) special! Knowing they are always available and willing to talk to me, provides a peace of mind.

Mom has made many good friends and is so happy with her decision. The Stratford has earned my 5-star review!

This was too upsetting to respond to at the time.

This was too upsetting to respond to at the time.
In August this year my wife; who suffers from dementia; was transferred from St Vincent's Indianapolis to the Stratford for rehab. Later that day she was returned by Stratford to St Vincent's by ambulance. Only explanation was they could not manage someone in my wife's condition. Seeing her in the emergency room it was as though she had been beaten. Her face was bruised and bloody with an open wound by her right eye. When asked the explanation was that my wife was left unattended in a room and had fallen. The wound by her eye required stitches to close and subsequent Cat scans showed multiple fractures to her right orbit and a brain bleed. Her face was covered in dried blood as no attempt was made to clean her up. This is unforgivable. If I could give negy stars I would have.

The Stratford is a LOVELY facility! It s situated in the beautiful WestClay Village! I ve been an assisting vendor there for nearly 10 years and have to say how great the administrative, sales and maintenance teams are to work with. Very attention to detail and nothing but the highest quality accepted for their residents and their grounds/facilities.

It is certainly a community I d choose in the future for my family members and, when my need arises, that I would choose to call home.

Living at The Stratford provides a lifestyle of being at HOME plus enjoying the amenities of a nice hotel. The usual concerns for a senior citizen of maintaining a house and yard disappear. Opportunities for meeting new friends and participating in activities are always available.

I'm not a resident, but my gf works at this location. I know that makes me biased, but I must mention how much I love the Stratford. The staff are always very friendly and the location is so beautiful. It's surrounded by a thriving community of professionals and retirees, which makes the atmosphere very safe and professional. My life goal is to make enough money so that I can someday retire in this beautiful community.

The Stratford has been a great choice for my 81 year old dad who moved from Illinois to Indiana after 50 years in the same home and widowed for 7 years of that. My family and I feel he is safe and comfortable there while we are still in the middle of relocating there ourselves. After searching for options with him, we are confident we made the right choice. His two bedroom/two bathroom cottage is just like a smaller version of his home without compromising his space and having the attached garage was a plus. Hard to find this anywhere. It is quiet and has that privacy feeling. Having your own outdoor patio area and some yard helps to enhance this. The transition was easy for him thanks to Ann Buttery and Grace Snyder who guided us through the entire process. They have been helpful in every way and continue to check in on him. During this challenging Covid situation, the Stratford staff has done a remarkable job. They have made sure their residents are healthy, safe and comfortable implementing social distancing, wearing of face masks, temperature checks and locking down the building to the general public. Many of the staff know their residents and their visitors by name and are always friendly with acknowledging them. We feel dad is happy here and has adjusted well. He has met new people and seems to enjoy living here. We are confident things will get even better when these COVID restrictions are lifted. We would recommend The Stratford as a good choice for an independent living environment.

I did performances there before COVID hit
Plan on going back when it is safe
I retired from the State Dept of Health and have been on over 300 communities in Indiana and I would rate The Stratford in my top 10 list
I have taught the Activities course to over 10000 students during the past 40 years and I would rate the activity program in the top 10

I have been a resident of the Stratford Independent Living Community
for three years. During this time, I have been seen by the Genesis
Physical Rehab Therapy Group many times. Each one of them
has been professional, courteous, and extremely well qualified to
meet all the challenges of the residents. It would be hard to find
a group that gets along with each other any better and steps up
to the plate when the need arises.

I recently relocated my parents to Independent Living. Ann and Grace went above and beyond to make the transition as smooth as possible for them. Providing excellent resources for relocation, so that they could move from one home to another without having to pack, unpack, and put back their belongings, was ideal for them. It eliminated undue stress and work. The gals assisted me with a seamless transition. Grace made my parents feel welcome from the minute they walked through the front door and they happily report that the staff is friendly, helpful, and the food is outstanding. The staff monitors item drop-offs for residents and will even come out and help you unload items and transport them up to their apartment for them. I was provided with very detailed information that was also extremely helpful for helping my folks become acquainted with the community. The Stratford provides newcomer meetings, which are ongoing and give new residents the opportunity to meet staff members, become familiarized with the various areas of the community, and residents can attend as many times as they need. They provide instruction for any new programs or procedures, to assist with any type of transition. Given the added aspect of COVID and necessary restrictions, The Stratford has been vigilant to protect residents and have made this unusually difficult time for them as normal as possible. It cannot be easy for any community, but The Stratford has and continues to be creative, providing alternate ways to keep residents engaged and active. I cannot say enough about the care and compassion of the staff and community. This is a very welcoming community where you are always greeted with a smile. I urge anyone looking for a home for their loved ones to give The Stratford a serious look. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

From the minute you walk into The Stratford you are greeted with warmth and smiles from Jackie the Concierge to the entire team that serves this Carmel community. It is evident that each employee feels as if they are personally serving their own family members and there is a joyful energy that exits among the residents. One learns very quickly how easy it is to make new friends and feel a part of this stunning community that offers spacious apartments, cottage homes, restaurant-style fine dining room, gym and my favorite, a swimming pool! The location is ideal with nearby shops, restaurant, banks, drugstores and beautiful parks all within walking distance to the main campus. It's just a place that is easy to call home and feel safe knowing that the best care for a loved one is the Stratford's top priority while providing a luxurious environment.

I stopped in to obtain an application for employment and I was first struck with just how well maintained and immaculate the campus was. The staff I had the time to speak with were gracious and polite as well. I am a cna considering a job there so based on my first impression I truly am hopeful to work there. I have been a cna for 16 years and this is the absolute nicest place I have stepped foot in. If the grounds and people I met are any indication of what a job at the Stratford would be like I will cross my fingers in hopes of working there as well.

We moved my mother to The Stratford from a different facility, to receive rehab after an illness. What a great place! We have already started seeing changes/improvements in her health (and she has only been there a little over a week). The staff is very professional and shows concern/interest in her reaching her goals. She was at the other facility (not in Carmel) for a month and was progressively getting worse. The team at The Stratford welcomed her and immediately started working on her therapy, diet, etc. We have had a great experience, so far.

I love the people at The Stratford. My kindergarteners love spending time together with all the grandmothers and grandfathers. We do art, tell stories, dress in costumes, have relay races and have watched movies, complete with popcorn!. At the end of our time together, we always have cookies and juice! All the staff have made us feel welcome, safe and happy. We can't wait until the next time when we see each other again.

The Stratford has been a wonderful community for my 88 year old father in law since he moved in last November! Lisa Mayer was our initial contact, who guided my dad through the entire, emotional transition process. She was wonderful throughout and continues to check on him. The Stratford staff has also done remarkable work in this most challenging Covid environment to keep the residents healthy and happy through all the challenges of lock down and social distancing!

Some reasons for my top ratings follow. We enjoy splendid comforts, quiet, people, patios, pool, fitness center, maintenance, and outstanding expert management. Various events are offered, to attend or add to, as we choose. Also, transportation is available. Or, we may go out on our own, into Carmel and the world, for as long as able.
If we advance to the need for others to care for our bodies and brains, Stratford's assisted living and memory units await us. I am happy my children will not have to tend to my old physical wellbeing. The Stratford looks after our health.

The Stratford is beautiful and active senior living community. I always ask residents I meet in the elevators how they like living there, and residents alway respond with an enthusiastic and positive reply. The friendly & outgoing residents, the attentive & caring staff, along with the spacious & beautiful apartments/cottages can give you confidence that choosing The Stratford for your next home will be the right decision for you!

The Stratford of Carmel is 5-stars in every respect! It was the perfect place for my parents to transition from their large, long-time home -- enabling them to downsize their life, but retain the elegance and upscale living they had been accustomed to. Never did I imagine they would enjoy retirement living so much. From programming to fine dining to every amenity and service, the Stratford has it all. Most importantly, Stratford's people make all the difference. They are kind, caring, compassionate, ready to attend to every need, and ever-aware that their community is full of people that lived interesting and varied lives. They treat every resident with the respect and nurturing they deserve. The Stratford is top-of-the-line retirement living in wonderful Carmel. Bravo to our forever-friends at Stratford!
