We recently visited The Getty. I cannot believe we waited so long to do this!! The museum is situated high on a hill in Malibu, California, with breathtaking views of Los Angeles and beyond! And would you believe it's free!! There is a parking fee of $15, but believe me, it is totally worth it. From the parking area you take a tram (or you can huff it if you like) overlooking the 405 and L.A., up to the top of the hill and to the entrance of The Getty. The tram ride alone is worth the $15! From there, you enter the museum, where the exhibits begin immediately. You can do a 9 minute informational film, and I highly suggest you stop at the information booth for literature and a chat with the knowledgeable and friendly staff who can steer you in the right direction. There are also video tours,
but we winged it and did great. From there, you enter the various buildings filled with sculptures, art, and beauty. Warning, do not touch anything, and some art cannot be photographed for various reasons. Always read the placecard by the art. If not, there are plenty of security nearby to tell you what you can and cannot do. I suggest bringing a picnic lunch and eating on the lawn surrounding the outdoor gardens. The restaurants are quite pricey and a bit lame. Don't forget to stop by the souveneir shop on your way out!!

The Getty family might have been riddled with tragedy, but thankfully this world renowned museum has not! $788 million well spent. Such an iconic place and a must go when in the LA area. Their art exhibitions are world class and they tend to exhibit the best of the best. When visiting you'll pay $20 for parking and that's it. No admission fees, etc. If you're planning a trip to the museum, earlier is better. Otherwise, you can sometimes be waiting in line forever!

Everything about this place is awesome - except for the process of getting in during peak days/hours. The building is beautiful, views are unbelievable, and the art is fabulous and eclectic. Plus, they make it free, which is truly awesome. My favorites was the French furniture from the 1700's. And many classic artists/paintings throughout. They have kid-friendly activities. And their gift shop is awesome, with an especially impressive offering of art books. Make sure you leave yourself enough time, as there is much to see, and it takes time to get from the parking and all around the property. Staff is nice, too.

An amazing museum with famous authentic Van Gogh paintings and a perfect view of LA. I especially loved see all the exotic flowers and plants everywhere and in the garden. The art collections are also decent. You can definitely take the best portrait picture with LA downtown as background on one of the terraces towards south.

Even if you don't like museums, this place is a must visit to experience LA visually in one magnificent location. Stunning views of west LA and downtown on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. On a clear day during sunset, the views are even more breathtaking. The architecture of the buildings and the design of the gardens are special visual experience in their own right. The art installations and exhibits are an icing on the cake. It is free to visit the Getty but there is a $15 parking fee if you choose to park in their structure.

Beautiful place to visit. The structure alone is worth it. The gardens are really nice and the views as well since it's on a hilltop. Free admission, just need to pay for parking. A lot of different types of art to see.

This place is a marvel. I have visited many museums, but this one really impressed me. I won't speak too much about the collection. You have the museum's web page for that, but this one rivals the MET's or the any other European museum. Go!!!

A bit of an unconventional review but I wanted to give 5 stars for the awesome employees here. My car broke down on Sepulveda BLVD and the employees at The Getty let me hobble my car into their parking garage free of charge and stay there in the sculpture garden until I figured everything out. They were kind and accommodating and, most importantly, empathetic to a real human having a bad time. Thanks guys! Best place I have ever needed to call a tow truck, hands down!

Beautiful grounds, spectacular views, and an amazing collection of artwork. We arrived at 0945 and had no problem parking or getting on the tram. Went back to the car to eat lunch and walked 3/4 mile back. Staff is snooty, but that s my only complaint.

Start by paying $20 for parking, but admission is free. Wait in line, for the slow crowded tram that takes you up to the Getty Center.
Enjoy the beautiful architectural design of the many halls containing all the arts. Enjoy the views from Santa Monica to Hollywood. Stroll down though the garden, with a creek of water as the center of intention . Enjoy a multiple of choices of delicious entrees at the cafe for lunch Or enjoy a gourmet meal, upstairs at the restaurant.
Finally choose the art, that's in the eye of the beholder. Pick up free headphones for description of the art you see. I enjoy the impressionism room, with artists like Van Gogh's Iris, Monet, Pissarro and more.
Finally stop at their gift shop, for lots of unique items and books.
Take the tram back down to your car, after enjoying a wonderful day.

Well worth visiting, especially if you are in a long time relationship with art. You can find lots of nice paintings from different eras. Also there are coffee shops and restaurants, but they are a little bit expensive.

Really love here. Excellent modern architectures and various art collections.
But I really hope the little train could be a little bigger. During the summer holiday, drastically increasing visitors make the waiting queue for the train really long.

Really loved this place. The graden is really beautiful and the waterfall is very beautiful. I suggest taking an allergy pill before visiting the garden. Beautiful art work best part it inexpensive. Great place for art lovers! Great place to peacefully relax (and if you're lucky enough to go on a day where the outside gardens are open it's even better). There's also two souvenir shops, headphone tours, daily group tours, a charging station near the main restrooms, trams, and lots of places to sit outside. Also, it's free admission everyday!

Beautiful museum with fascinating exhibits in a great location. The architecture of the museum itself is among my favorites. Well worth the time spent here. Does not have a ton of kid friendly exhibits but there are a few.

What an amazing and special place on Earth! The collections are gorgeous but would definitely recommend the architecture tour to everyone as well! Breathtaking views, outstanding architecture and landscape design.

Such a beautiful museum filled with beautiful exhibits and the most stunning grounds. An absolute must if you are visiting the city. The view is incredible, looking over the west side. A perfect place to spend the afternoon on a sunny day.

Breathtakingly beautiful museum. Can't believe it is free. Enjoyable to just walk the grounds and admire the architecture and gardens. The art is well chosen and covers both historical and modern.

We had driven by the Getty numerous times but never stopped because we didn't think an art museum would be appealing to us. We were so wrong! Parking at the bottom of the hill and riding the tram up is very enjoyable. The building itself is magnificent and we loved the architecture tour we got to take to learn more about the building and the building project. And the art itself is beautifully displayed and well explained in the many tours. We would come back in a heart beat. And the gift shop what a treasure. We really had fun and were inspired to bring some art books home to our kids. We only had 2 and a 1/2 hours to spend because we were catching a flight home (this is really pretty close to the airport), but we will plan to come back and would highly recommend it.

Anytime I'm in LA I make sure to make a stop here. The permanent collection is solid. I especially like the second floor with all the paintings. I found a Degas up there with no one in the room. I just got to stand there with a master work and it was lovely. Even if you aren't a huge fan of art it is well worth the trip just to see the LA views and the unique architecture of the building itself.

Everything about this place is a work of art. $15 a car charge to park ($10 after 3pm), and free admission. Take their tram ride up the hill to the center and then you ll see why this place is awesome. Cafe s on site for when you get hungry. My wife and I were here for 5-6 hours so we checked out 2 different food places.

The things to see are constantly changing so I could see why people go more than once in a year or 2. The school field trips when I was little wasn t as great as this place.
