The food is always good but the portions are on the smaller side. I ordered the omelette, which was great, but it was so small! It could fit on the English muffin it came with. I would've preferred more omelette and no English muffin. Staff is always friendly, too.
Was there a while ago. Everything was good wholesome food. Good service too.
OK food, great place for your kids to run on the lawn while you sit and enjoy a beer
I have been a Pitt student for a long time (undergrad and grad) and I only came here once and never returned. This restaurant is SO OVERRATED! First, their food isn't that special. I can go somewhere else and get tasty sandwiches for a cheaper price. Second, they are always getting a violation from the Allegheny County Health Department (like one incident where at least six people got e.coli) I have no idea why students still come here knowing that they don't have the best public health practices.
I really can't say enough mediocre things about this place. The location is it's only saving grace. Two occasions the staff has been somewhere between disinterested and rude. As for the food, it's not bad, but the prices are inflated.
I have been here several times. The food is always slow to come out, and is alright. However, the last time I went, I ordered a pizza topped with olives. Some of the olives still contained pits, which resulted in cutting the roof of my mouth (as you can see by my blood on the napkin). You would think with all the extra time it takes to get the food out, they ensure there weren't any hard bits in their pizza.
Food was good, server was just attentive enough without being overbearing, and it was a perfect evening for dinner outside.
Amazing menu and atmosphere! You got it all right! Specials were great last week!!
Excellent! Its fresh, farm-to-table, and delicious. The salmon was out of this world!
Not a big review writer, but when duty calls!
I go to this place pretty frequently. Great location and close to universities. Food is very mediocre and over priced-- but usually not a problem. Tonight I called in about a special they run-- 1/2 off pizza after 9pm. I was told by the person over the phone that they are in fact running that promotion. I immediately said, "great!" and proceeded to place an order over the phone for a pizza for pickup. Fast forward 15 minutes-- I go to pick up my pizza and I am told that this doesn't apply to take out orders. That's fine, and I have no issue with that policy--- except I JUST ORDERED OVER THE PHONE AFTER ASKING ABOUT THE DEAL AND NOBODY SAID A WORD. What a joke. Mediocre overpriced pizza that is sopping with grease tastes even worse when you are angry.
The food was good! I loved their way of serving their pizza, but unfortunately, there was a olive pit in my pizza which I bit and hurt so bad! Immediately I let the server know about it, and she said she will let the manager know, but she never did, and no body even apologized for it!!!! I give them two starts just because of their food quality and their serving style!
It is a fun place to go with good food and friendly employees.
My favorite place in Oakland. Used to visit my daughter at Pitt just to eat here.
Pretty cool spot to have a burger at! It's right on the Pitt campus and the food's very tasty. The outside section is very nice and breeze during the summer, with a good view of the Cathedral and the park.
Overbearing waiter. Food not up to their usual standards.
Food is good but service was lacking. Sitting outside with birds on the table next to you cleaning up the old plates isn't very appealing.
Food and atmosphere was great. Brunch menu was short and sweet. Service was a little slow, but overall good.
Had the brunch pizza. Not too bad but a little overpriced. I think you are mostly paying for the great air conditioning!
This place it's the worst place ever.
Unprofessional service. Full of teenagers. That they have no clue how to handle customer service .
I was embarrassed front off my good griend.that she came to visit the country. She said why the people in this country so miserable. And nasty.
Nice restaurant on college campus. Excellent service...great staff and always welcoming
Different is good, I tried the veggie pizza and the bianca, both were pretty tasty. If you want to try something new and exciting this may tingle your taste buds, but you are looking for a traditional pizza place, this is not the place for you.
#pricey
Had a nice meal here tonight after day touring Pitt and Phipps. Nice airy space. Our waiter Tim was A+. He was the perfect combo of attentive and knowledgeable. He brought extra water just as we ran out and brought to go boxes without asking. As someone who used to waitress he was pitch perfect. My family had calamari and wings as appetizers. Both were good. The wings were outstanding. Entrees were solid. My husband and I both had cocktails, which were good. Prices were good. Since my daughter just committed to Pitt, we will be back!
Excellent dinner. Fire fries OMG! Cod dinner was just delicious!
Ever wonder what it was like to be cheated out of your money? Go to the porch! I had their sausage pizza which was more like a thin charred cracker with red food color that should be marinara, with 3 piles of thinly shaved parm, oregano, More
Awesome atmosphere, excellent customer service and great food. 10/10 recommend.
As someone who doesn't drink alcohol, I appreciated their seasonal soda (watermelon & cucumber) which was quite good. Had the "Beef Burger" which was very good especially considering the price. Service was standard but quick and professional. Had to get in and out quickly on a Sunday and they were perfect for a quick good meal.
Really expensive burger was
$30
The food and drinks were excellent. Recommend the steak and eggs. Our server Marlo went above and beyond for our table. Would go again for sure.
The food was quite good and the ambiance was great. It was not so crowded in the middle of the day and you could choose to sit outside on a pleasant day and enjoy the greenery as you dig into some serious food. We ordered a thin crest 12" Mediterranean pizza and chips which were good. It was enough for the 3 of us. The seasonal beers also were not bad and suited us. Overall food and service experience was good. However, I found it a little pricey and you may want to check for other options with the budget you have. Check the menu and see if it fits you and a one time visit will be quite good to have :)
Ok spot. One of my baked fish want cooked all the way through. The batter was under cooked.
They really pay attention to the details in the food and usually have a great beer selection
Have been here many times. Great beer, nice location, good food. Kids play out in the park. Just a nice way to spend a summer afternoon.
Was pumped to try this place but was a total let down. Half the wine selection on the menu wasn't available and then ordered a calamari app and it was 80% fried coating with very little actual protein. The location is nice but wouldn't come back...
The menu tries way too hard for my tastes. You want a pizza? Sure, here's a butternut squash pizza, but we won't sell you anything that resembles a basic pizza. You want a grilled cheese sandwich? No problem, that will be $9 bux. I got a Reuben for lunch today. $12 later and I got 2 slices of marble rye, possibly 2 slices of corned beef deli meat, a bunch of thick cabbage, possibly some cheese but I couldn't tell and what might have been Russian dressing on the side If you've ever had a reuben at a New York deli (or any other deli) don't expect the same sandwich here. The potatoes I got for my side really were incredible. Honestly, I would go to this place just for the potatoes. At the end of my lunch, I felt like I paid way too much for very few calories that I could actually eat. Fast food at Arby's would have made me much happier than my meal today.
I have never posted a review about any restaurant whether it was great or horrible. But my family and I had of the worst experience at The Porch this past Thursday (12/27/18). We first visited the Carnegie Museum next door then decided to try out The Porch for dinner. It was my wife, myself, my 7 year old daughter and 4 year old niece. We arrived and there was a short wait. We were seated about 7:20pm. The waitress seemed very uninterested in waiting on us for whatever reason. She got our drink order and within 5 minutes we gave her our food order. It was the basics. I had a salad and wings, kids had a burger, grill cheese and my wife had soup and sandwich. The restaurant was busy but there was no longer a wait and this was at approximately 7:35. We waited and waited and waited for our food. Now it is 8:10pm with no food and waitress came over just one time. I got up and went to the front/bar area and spoke to some older male that I believed was a waiter. I told him that my table was going on over 40mins wait time for our food. He fluffed me off and said I'm a bartender you have to talk to someone else by the kitchen. So I stood by the kitchen door waiting to talk to someone. My server then came up to me and asked what I needed???? I said our food! It's been over 40mins and my kids are hungry I told her. She said it is kind a busy and my food should be up. She then walked away. Our food arrived about 7mins later. My wings were gummy and I ate 2 of my whole order. Everyone else's meals were ok. The manager came over and checked on us and we expressed a concern about the kids "tots" and he then brought them out French fries to replace.
Overall the service was terrible and food was nothing exciting. Maybe it was too busy for them but why is that our fault if they are under staffed on Christmas/NYE week?!
I grew up with my family owning several restaurants so I understand its difficulties and off days but I have never been so angry and disappointed at the same time. We will NEVER return. I'm sure no one at the Porch really cares about one review but they lost our business.
I order some wings as my appetizer Terrible! I wish I had 4 thumbs so I could give it 4 thumbs down. That place is Terrible!
Good food on a nice park and in the middle of Pitt. It is one of the best restaurant for the summertime in Pittsburgh.
Went several times mostly because of events. Really good location. Not really into the food.
My favorite place in Pittsburgh! Get the smashed potatoes... always. Every dish is amazing - butchering, breads, jams all done on site. Honey bees and herb garden on roof - everything is fresh! Go for breakfast, lunch or dinner and always leave happy. Beautiful location overlooking the park.
The crispy taters were not crispy at all. The mimosa came with ice in a large glass, never seen that before, way too much orange juice. The pastrami was inedible, completely dry and hard. The poached eggs on the eggs bennedict were under done, watery on the inside. Nice atmosphere and servers but overall mediocre food, would not recommend.
No one ever goes to the porch thinking, wow! I made a great choice! It's overpriced, mediocre food.
Fantastic... yes it is a little expensive but it's worth the price.
This is a wonderful resturant they grow their own vegtables. Have freindly and informative staff. They have a wide variety of options I'd say you should go here at least once everyother month because their specials menu is allways changing and you might get something really amazing.
They have seasonal cocktails as well. Porch lemonade is very good... dangeriously good.
If you want to try this place and dont want to spend as much they have some cheaper options... go at lunch time it's much less expensive at lunch time... or get a pizza the pizzas are reasonably priced and fantastic maybe order an appatizer and a pizza you will be very happy.
There will also be the FIRST annual Black Friday sale. Standard discounted items will be more in variety. The standard DON (city. county, Governor) discount only applies to a SPECIFIC item not bundles/packages.
Our server was 903 Joseph. The service was atrocious, he seemed to care for his other tables that came in after us besides ourselves. Made semi inappropriate jokes toward us, and it took about 15 minutes to get our checks. I left a $1.88 tip on a $17.12 bill and was charged $20.00 on my debit card account. Food was average, and it took a while for that as well. Definitely won t be back.
A Napolitana Pizza, I loved it and it's delicious a little pricey but for the causy friendly place and staff. That was a delicious chicken pizza. Would definitely go there again.
Pizza is very good (I am italian). The other dishes are also good, without being overexpensive or pretentious. Service is usually fine
We tried to eat at this restaurant with a service animal and wanted to sit outdoors. We have all of his paperwork and access is required by law. We were denied access and the manager refused to look at the paperwork while continually belittling the disability. DO NOT EAT HERE if you respect people with disabilities.
We had heard so many good things about this place and decided to go for dinner for the first time tonight. Our waiter seemed in a bad mood from the get go and was very rude and not attentive at all. We watched three different tables get seated after us and get all of their food before we even got our appetizer. The other waitress working, Audrey, helped us when we finally said something and was incredible. The manager there tonight, Dave, was also amazing in helping us for the rest of our meal. The food was amazing and we still would definitely return. it is just unfortunate to have had such a tainted first experience.
Good food. Massive portions so order accordingly. I had the veggie burger the the fig and goat cheese pizza, very satisfying
Amazing nuance of flavors presented in a beautiful manner. Attentive wait staff in a comfortable environment. Simply one of the best meals we had in Pittsburgh.
Not great options.
Too small a portion for the cost
Never is there a place to sit. Have to wait.
What a fantastic restaurant for a date night! This restaurant is conveniently located near Phipps Conservatory where we saw the Winter Flower Show before dinner last Saturday evening. We felt very safe dining in as they adhered to social distancing guidelines. Our server was prompt and courteous. The calamari was a little salty for our taste but the marinara sauce helped decrease the saltiness. We loved our Margherita Pizza! The extra "toppings" of cheese, oregano, and red pepper flakes were fun and tasty! The Pinot Noir was a great accompaniment to our meal! We'll definitely be back!
Great atmosphere - excellent seating on the patio, right on the park, perfect for people-watching at the end of the day! Sadly, the veggie burger was burnt, but the potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. Service was somewhat frigid...
Wonderful atmosphere and food. Or easier was friendly and helpful.
I usually have a wonderful experience here , but not this time . I stood at the doorway while 2 managers and a waitress struggle to acknowledge and seat us . I ordered my apps first and after waiting an hour , my meal came before my app. When they brought my app , the mussels were cold. there was absolutely zero seasoning on my lamb chop entree. So after sitting with 3 courses at my table at all once , I lost my appetite. I wasn t offered compensation, a free desert , a conversation with the manager , NOTHING . Extremely disappointed.
Food looked good but I wasn t able to partake. I came in 10 mins before closing to grab some food to go and a waiter told me well, we already closed the hot line a few minutes ago.
But your door says you close in 10 mins.
We re done for the night.
The rest of the staff, including the manager - yes I saw you there, all stood there looking at me waiting to see to see if I would leave or not. I get it, it was late and close to closing, but I was traveling, hungry, and only wanted something to go. I d expect treatment like this from a fast food joint, but not these guys.
Margherita pizza and salmon burger! Very tasty and fresh, highly recommend. We dropped in from museum visit to have a short lunch break, very closeby.
Terrible service, limited appetizers, and the "pan seared" salmon was baked.
One of my favorite spots in Pittsburgh. Gorgeous views, cozy, clean atmosphere. I love the farm bread and cast iron cornbread. Try the pizza or porch burger.
Their home made vegan burger is amazing. Not like anywhere else. wish they had more vegan options but the one i had was perfect!
We visit the Porch every time we're in town. In summer, the indoor/outdoor vibe can't be beat! Tons of options - many of which are gluten free! The food and service are excellent, the prices are more than fair.
Wow! Yummy food and big portions..we had a great server!
My favorite place on the University of Pittsburgh campus. A nice selection of sandwiches, pizzas and salads with fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. They are very accomodating to special requests
Food was pretty good. Service was awful. Place wasn t even busy and it took our food over 45 minutes to come out.
Absolutely Amazing! The menu choices and specials were very unique and I adored my meal. I had the Lamb with the Steak sides...the combination was to die for.
And the Pork Belly app was fantastic...as a southern girl, it was like being home.
We really liked our brunch here.
The ambiance was cool and relaxing, the food was very good, and the value wasn't bad at all. We had Mushroom Pizza, Garden Harvest salad, 3 cocktails, 1 beer flight and 1 dessert (biscotti). Everything was tasty, but the pizza dough and drinks were just outstanding.
And speaking about the service it was one of the nicest ever. We had Megan as our waitress and I have to say that a big part of our wonderful experience was easy and enjoyable communication with her. Thanks Megan for making our day even brighter then it already was : )!
We are glad to discover a new tasty destination for us and definitely coming back when in the area.
