My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try this place for sometime. I ordered the $22 steak medium rare and was sadly disappointed. Over cooked and flavorless. I had a few bites and my boyfriend ate the rest as his burger was nothing to be desired for. Our server was very inattentive and barley checked up on us. Sadly I don t think we will be returning.
Beautiful wedding venue. Friends were married here, staff was attentive, grounds and decor were stunning.

This is a great restaurant and bar in Barrington. They are in a somewhat hidden location down Pepper Road but easy to get to. They offer a lot of different beer and drink options. The service has been great durung to couple times that we have visited.

Place use to be good. Menu has got very very small and food is not great. My food was not made to the description of the menu missing half of the ingredients. Men's bathroom looked like a gas station with foul language scratched into walls and garbage and urine throughout
Onion Petals are a must. Great Fish & Chips. Southwest Salmon the best. Hop Slayer their best.
Just had our wedding ceremony and reception there and it was fabulous. Jamie was wonderful to work with (and she did it all remotely since I live out of state and Covid prevented an early meet-and-greet). The staff did a great job and the food was delicious. The bakery they used made a great cake, all off a photo (again, Covid). It was a perfect place for a small, Socially Distant ceremony. It struck the perfect mix of fancy, but not too fancy. And the beer was awesome. 5 stars, wouldn't change anything.
They had a table for us right away even though we did not have a reservation. Great libations!
We eat here often, and my husband and I also got married here! The food is always fantastic, and our wedding was incredible. Highly recommend the Onion Pub!

Wood beamed interior with fireplace makes this place look and feel warm even in winter.
Our choices were beer samplers and dinner. I got an Onion Pub Burger with cheese ( you can choose almost any kind of cheese ) pickle and fries. It was only $11 and the portion size was so large, I had problems finishing it. Tasted great! Beer sampler comes with 10 glasses and it was the first time I received a beer with a slice of orange. A very unique experience and unusual good taste. Never tried this anywhere else. They do have a variety of collection beers to go. From cans to growlers. Growlers are not expensive starting at just $10+ and $5 glass.
Excellent spot! The prime rib dip was delicious and the carrot cake is one of the best I've had!
I really like this place. It has some great twists on traditional food. For example most places when you order muscles they are in a white cream broth. This place has it with sausage and spicey peppers. I love the German and spicey twists in some of the foods. Plus some real good micro brews.
Love this place! I've been enjoying this awesome bar since it opened and I'm glad it's still doing business. Reasonable prices, great food, and awesome patio. Ballroom and private party areas too.
The world's worst frozen pizza is still better than the pizza available at The Onion.

The banquet is wonderful. I ate in the restaurant with friend while part of my team had a banquet.
The atmosphere was beautiful. It had an old school charm . The staff was tremendous. The food was outstanding. The only problem was one bathroom for banquet guest and restaurant. When you are with the banquet you have to walk through the restaurant to use the bathroom. The ladies room only had 4 stalls. Very limited when you have a banquet of 130 adults.

Great local bar and grill with friendly staff that truly makes your visit special. The food is really good and they recently added breakfast to their menu which is very good. I would recommend this establishment to family s and groups looking for a fun place to eat and drink.
I loved the wooden beams and the old world feel. The beer sampler is a must and for 10 beers for just 13$ is a must. It was a bit too quiet for my taste but definitely very family oriented. Try the sweet potato fries, you won't regret it.

Returned to Onion Pub after attending a wedding there 2 years ago. OUCH! I ordered 3 Steak tacos.
Dried tortilla with small dried out pieces of horribly under cooked mini cubes of steak. Oh, and they sprinkled parsley on it for color. Had to chew a lot. Thin slices would have faired well. Caramelized onions would help. I don't eat Spanish rice so I substituted sweet-potato fries with BBQ sauce instead of ketchup. BBQ sauce an extra $1.00. If I ever return, I'll bring my own BBQ sauce!
Nice interior, good service, but waitress should let you know about upcharge for BBQ sauce and sweet- potato fries. People like to be informed.
Went to a Wedding Reception there. Nice place , good beers, average food.
Was not impressed with the food. We had visited many times over the years and the core menu never changed. Feel like bar food not a quality restaurant. The seasonal menu did but wasn't anything special. The vegetables always felt like what you get from the freezer section in the local store. We did have growlers from here. The beer was good. We stopped refilling when we found out they do not exchange the growler when you refill, they rinse it out. I love my beer and have many growlers from different places, all change out the growler and send the returned one to be sanitized. This is what did it for us and we haven't gone back. I will continue to buy the beer in the store but that is it.

Good food and great ambience. Our server Kenneth was pleasant and accommodating. He gave us the specials. We ordered Salad and Reuben sandwich. Very tasty marble rye, generous corned beef and coleslaw is how I like it, on the sweet side. Our food looks good and forget to take pictures.
What a nice restaurant and the food is quite good. Had a party of 20 go there and every demand and or request made was kept by the staff. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the beer prices were outstanding. Can't wait to come again.

Drive by this place at all cost! This was our 1st and last time at this hole.
We had high hopes for The Onion Pub, however our hopes were dashed as soon as we were seated. We went in late Saturday afternoon and we hoped to have some good beers, food and conversation. What we had was a disinterested hostess that sat us in a depressing back room between the kitchen and toilets, that truly was gods waiting room. Our fellow diners were a Korean war vet and his wife, 6 golden girls, grandparents making string ties with their bored grand daughter and a woman and son that were obviously kitchen staff family members, not the Saturday crowd we would have chosen, but the Korean vet and his wife were pleasant company and we did enjoy talking with them. They were the only thing we enjoyed about the experience . Our waitress was one of the worse, she told us about the soup of the day but did not wait around to see if we wanted it, we ordered two burgers and we had to tell her how we wanted them cooked, I asked for mayo on the side for the fries and she came back with a teaspoon of mayo and sat it down on the table, returned shortly while my husband and I were in conversation and banged a bottle of ketchup down between us that we did not ask for, I set the timer on my phone to see how long the mayo would sit on the table before the food arrived, since you don't leave dairy out in a hot room, it was on the table for 12mins, my husband asked for another since this was sitting too long, and she brought back the same teaspoon of mayo. We had to beg for the beer menu, I had heard this place had a great selection, she proceeded to scratch out the ones they did not have. We decided on two big boys, the beer was good but not worth a return trip, no mention of flights or any of the things on the website, maybe you had to sit in the bar for that, but since we were not asked where we wanted to sit, who the heck knows. We asked for well done burgers, what we got were two thin black orbs, I had to check to see if it was a blacked burger, McDonald's at least has the good graces to have burgers that are burger color, not the color of the bottom of my shoe, they were barely edible. Ive done better on the grill at home. We were not made to feel welcomed at all, I don't know if it was because we are not 30 or a young family and just two 40 somethings that are not obese or unattractive that just wanted a few beers and a meal. After our meal the waitress did not ask if we wanted the fries wrapped, I would have said no, but its standard to ask or ask if there was a problem when you see the diner has not touched them. I was expecting something like the Cary Pub, or Emmett's, what we got was a sad hospital cafeteria.

Great beer, great food, great tour deal on the first Saturday of every month. They know beer and love the craft. Im only confused when I see people drinking wine there... They have a beer everyone will enjoy! The selection is amazing!
This used to be our favorite burger place, but now they've changed their menu. The Onion Pub no longer offers their burgers on an onion bun, only a pretzel roll or Brioche bun - not nearly as delicious as the onion bun!
Enjoyable lunch. Tried the Shepherd's pie not bad! They have a variety of beers although sadly numerous were not available so that was disappointing.
This place is great! Good beer, vegetarian options, fries are awesome, great atmosphere, and every song on their playlist was perfect! Highly recommend!

I have been a huge fan of the Onion Pub in the past, but I have noticed that the service has gone downhill immensely in the past year. I have eaten here 3 times in 2014, and every time I feel like the bartenders, hostess, wait staff thinks they are doing me a favor by showing up. Typical bush league mistakes...taking 20 minutes to show up at the table, rude hostess, waitress smells like cigarettes, bartender won't give you the time of day, etc. I think this attitude probably comes from the top down. I called this place on New Years Eve and a person who I assume was the manager yelled at me that they were closed. Who closes on New Years eve, and who yells at their customer for asking about it? I will not visit this establishment as frequently until the service improves.

I just had my wedding here and it was AMAZING!!!!!! I was stress free the whole day and it was all because of them. My wedding day helper had to back out last minute and Sean the events coordinator and Jaime the GM and their team jumped right in to set up all the center pieces and place cards. I honestly could not imagine having had my wedding anywhere else. They even talked to my DJ and officiant to Coordinate Time lines so I didn t have to be the middle man on my big day. The Great Hall which is at the back of the building is Gorgeous and a little secret, many people at my wedding have eaten at the Onion pub before and never knew it was even there( the great hall that is) you have a little outside patio that s private so you don t have random people watching you while trying to take pictures. And they even let us go down in the Brewing Rooms to take some bridle party pictures. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! Oh and the food was AMAZING!!!!!!
Horrible experience with the inconsiderade catering "coordinator", Jamie Wilson. Very disappoinging service. If you are considering the onion for your wedding, save yourself the time and the headache and look elsewhere.
We've come here countless times in the past and the food and service has been exceptional. Tonight...not so much. Found a hair in the food, didn't complain or bring it up because I know it happens, but it was one of many issues.
Beer was served rather warm, appetizers lacked enough toppings for what they were served with. (Barely any cheese on nachos and nowhere near enough spinach dip.) The entree servings sizes have GREATLY decreased. I ordered a prime rib sandwich that used to be almost too much to eat, tonight I was left hungry and with leftover bread from a scarcely made sandwich.
They were also out of several things. No strip steak at 5:30 PM?
Unfortunately, they seems to be declining like many restaurants do by simply taking advantage of their following. Going this was a fluke bad night but 8 people with the same experience is hard to explain.
What a great looking wedding venue. I had the pleasure of officiating a ceremony here recently and was impressed by this one of a kind location. The Onion Pub has impressive ceremony options for both indoor and outdoor celebrations.
Hidden gem. Every aspect of this micro brew and grill is above par. The quality and portions of food that come out of the kitchen is surprising considering the cost. You get a great meal for a great price. Try the beer flight! You will have the opportunity to find your perfect brew! I love coming here because I am never disappointed. Be sure to challenge the servers knowledge on both brew and cuisine, they are sure to impress.
