Prompt, friendly service, a beautifully eclectic atmosphere featuring local art, and most importantly, delicious food. On my last visit I had the Southwest tofu scramble with black beans and toast - the whole thing was wonderfully seasoned and totally delicious. They source locally, use organic ingredients, and make their items in house whenever possible. Love this place.

we went in and were told that the wait to be seated was 25 minutes... so we went for a walk and came back in 25 min ... i asked how much longer and was told 25 minutes AGAIN... so we waited inside.... after a total of 50 minutes we got a table ... then another 30 min later we finally got food... thats a total of 1 hour and 20 minutes from the time we showed up to the time food arrived at out table...AN HOUR AND 20 MINUTES... we were starving to death by then... i ordered the beef burger.... but it should be called the bread burger cuz the patty is so small and you can only taste the bun.... and to top it off... i opened it up to look at the meat and yeah... it was freaking burnt... the bun burger came with a small portion of home fries ... they were good but it was no where close to being enough food... we ate with fury and left hungry... so i brought everyone home and we ate AGAIN... it was a bad experience and totally UNACCEPTABLE ... we will NEVER go back...
Had breakfast today with my husband here before we started our day. It s been 9 hours since we ate there and my husband is still talking about the hot cakes and bacon. I had the special today which was the Cajun Shrimp & Eggs. And it was amazing! Super filling. Wish the coffee mugs were bigger so we don t keep asking for refills on our coffee but beside that. We will definitely be back. Great staff! Amazing service! And delicious food!
Laid back, but seating/ordering/serving could be more efficient. Long waits all round. Extensive menu, but "a la carte"-ed to death. Syrup with pancakes is an extra. Food is hearty and fresh, but somewhat bland. Left still hungry after a $50 family breakfast.
By far our best breakfast in Bellingham. 1/2 orders available ... fresh salsas that will make you weep. Coffee ok.. but who comes to a great cafe for coffee ? Food, Food, Food !!!
Checking in was inefficient, couldn't get an accurate time estimate, and wait was insane. Once we finally got a table we proceeded to wait for our meals for over an hour. Not to mention some weirdo was playing guitar incredibly loud the entire time, it was difficult to hold a conversation/hear my own effing thoughts. I have never felt compelled to write a review before, but this place is a prison and it deserves to be shamed publicly.
Been coming here since Patrick ran the place and we ate in the mickey ratz room (1979?). Always a place of nurturance and warm welcoming vibes, and the food is always reliably excellent and, well, real! GF, veg, local, available!
If you can't afford to wait for seating then go elsewhere. Their food is worth what probably amounts to the longest wait in Bellingham. This has little to do with poor service, inattentiveness, or incompetence-- it is mostly due to how busy they are. I will admit that there are anomalous servers who are aloof and standoffish but they're only human. Their food is delicious and so they attract a lot of regulars and foodies.
Great breakfast place - where the locals go! Plan on having to wait for a table unless you get there early, but there's a reason there's a wait.. the food is excellent. Great vegetarian options as well.
Service was awful! No hello or good morning just "We're all full. You can sit at the community table or put your name on the list." and quickly walked off. Like WTF?! They got out orders wrong and gave attitude when we said something/asked for the items we paid extra for. The biscuits and gravy was gross and tasted old. The coffee was good and so was the kids pancake. The bathrooms have a sign asking folks not to flush to save water and the toilet had filth in it. Disgusting! Just invest in low flow toilets and save the no flushing philosophy for your own home if that's what you want to do. Nasty. We passed up going to Shari's and made the extra little bit of a drive to this restaurant since they have a little play area for kids, wrong decision! Definitely not coming here ever again.
I used to eat here like 3, 4, 5 times a week. Only reason I don't is because I moved. I make sure to fix this problem every single time I'm back home. The dankest.
I can't believe how unorganized this place is waited over an hour with no one ever saying anything to us. While we waited over an hour we noticed that the people seated where also waiting over a half hour for there food without any service.
I wouldn't write home about this place but it is definitely a standby. Just a solid breakfast with funky ambiance. Also a good place to bring kids if you are an early riser. Music on the weekends and great community table for positive interactions with others in town.
Pretty good food. Some of their menu option descriptions are misleading. I've never heard of a breakfast scramble that doesn't have eggs - they ought to call it out as an eggless scramble. My scramble was good but needed eggs! The star off was for the home fries that needed so badly to have contact with a hot griddle. They were steamed by the ginormous mountain of potatoes I could see on the griddle back there. They need to cook about a tenth as many at a time so they all turn out crisp and yummy
Local favorite with an extensive menu... Even on a Monday at 9:45, there were 10 people in line in front of us but the line moved fast and food came quickly once we ordered. I got the breakfast burrito and my friend got the biscuits and gravy and we were both happy. Tons of vegan options. No wifi and only one bathroom are downsides.
The food was okay but the main reason I am writing this review is because of our server. She didn t even come to our table and was serving only 2 other tables on our side and we sat waiting and when she finally did she joked she didn t realize we were there. Which is whatever until progressively she got more and more rude. We were smiling and telling her our orders and she was rolling her eyes and slamming things on our table and walking away saying nothing. We are great tippers usually but we gave her $7 on $60 order and we even think that was too much for how rude she was to us. The other server delivered our food and she was so kind! We wish we had her all along, she was blonde and so sweet unlike the other server. She deserved that crappy tip for such crappy service.
This place is legit. Amazing breakfast with fresh veggies cooked the way they should be and pretty damn good coffee. Not fast on seating or service but it s a Monday and not sure if they expected a crowd. This will definitely be a must stop when I m in Bellingham.
We were really excited to try this place for the vegetarian and vegan options but it ended up being disappointing and mediocre. It was a Saturday but we arrived just before 2pm and while it was fairly full, there were clearly tables available so we put our names on the list and waited...and waited...and waited. We waited for more than 30 minutes and watched a group of regulars who were not on the list show up and get seated (without waiting) before us. The servers were nice but for the price, the food was just so-so. My French toast was overly eggy and my friend s tofu scramble came with a side of potatoes that was clearly burnt. The overall cleanliness of the table was questionable and as such the table cream and jam, subject to spoilage. Overall, love the concept but the execution of this cafe could be much better.
They burnt my breakfast potatoes and sent them out with the burnt side flipped over thinking I wouldn't notice. Not cool. Our server seemed very flustered and took fifteen minutes to process my credit card. I won't go back
One of the best Eggs Benedict in town! A charming place, full of Bellingham history, wonderful service. Locals know to come on off hours, tourist line up at the door on the weekends, waiting 30 to 45 minutes to get in. Don't blame Old Town, it can't help how yummy it is.
There's a reason the line is always out the door for as long as I've been coming here. Huge portions of great food at still cheap prices. Go early and put your name on the list. Then enjoy everything from meat to vegan cuisine since they cater to all tastes and do it well. Even the gluten free toast is good and I hate gluten free bread. Pancakes are plate sized so don't worry about having sides like bacon. I recommend the Farmers skillet, everything delicious on one plate.
Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Food not very good. Burnt potatoes and burnt toast soaked with whatever artificial butter substance they use. Odd egg mixture used for omelette. Overall, very unappetizing meal.
The food is always good here, and they have a lot of gluten-free and vegan options. Service is good, but a little slow. Be prepared to wait upwards of 30 min for a table on the weekends.
Pretty decent place, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here myself, but wouldn't be opposed if someone had a preference. Coffee was tasty, the Huevos Rancheros were okay. Just nothing to write home about. Not really any meat options for breakfast (no ham for the number nine, their take on Eggs Benedict), mushroom gravy instead of sausage gravy, ect.
