Sailing out of Bellingham bay, we had breakfast here two days in a row! Service was fantastic and thoughtful. The food felt like it was from my grandma's kitchen. No photos, I was too busy eating!!

This is THE BEST local food I have ever had. I had the chicken sandwich, which was so bursting with flavor, juicy and delicious that years later, it is still my ideal of what naturally raised and grown food can taste like. My husband enjoyed his food as well. The decor is very homey and the staff was chill but professional. Our food came in good time and was well plated and hot. I will absolutely go here again next time we're visiting his parents. If they ever get to NYC, Old Town Cafe would be a daily visit of mine!
LOVE this place! The pancakes are fantastic. I don't normally eat pancakes, but I always get them at Old Town. The wait can be a bit long on the weekends, but the food is worth it. Lots of organic, local options.
Stopped for breakfast with a party of four on a Sunday morning at 0830. Had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. The food was quite good, and the staff were attentive and fun. I recommend the Greek omelette - yum! Street parking was not difficult in spite of the clog of people waiting to be seated.
A bit of a wait, but the food and location were great. I like the atmosphere a lot - it made me feel trendy to eat here. Great for a brunch date with the wife :) This morning, they had two guys playing guitar and mandolin and that only added to the experience
Old Town Cafe is a historic cafe in downtown Bellingham. It opened originally as one of the only African-American businesses in town often serving the community. Today's owners have kept the community feel to the restaurant. Here's how:
1) Space: It's full of local posters and diverse seating (tables, booths, etc) to accommodate all types of people. There's even a play area for kids with toys and books (our 2-year-old daughter loved it).
2) Giving back: They allow local musicians to play music in the main dining area for a free meal. They also host an annual Thanksgiving meal for the community.
3) Food: They respect all and have a large menu for all taste buds and preferences from vegetarian, vegan, and breakfast all day. If you enjoy eggs, the "Number Nine" is to die for with ham!
Great food, great service, great portions, just expect a solid wait especially if you go in on the weekend. Also the water is always room temperature and you have to get it yourself.
Hands down one of the best places in Bellingham for breakfast or lunch!!! Home-like atmosphere, great costumer service (especially if you're a great costumer), organic options, supports local food, and affordable prices taboot!!!
An interesting place with an interesting menu... I like going here once in a while, but the crowds are a bit much. Re: The negative reviews: I've never seen the place dirty even at rush times. The "community table" is not to everyone's taste, but if you don't like it, don't sit there! I do think it could be better explained / signed so it didn't cause confusion (sometimes it's not community).
I love Old Town! Longtime customer...it's my favorite breakfast joint in Bellingham by far. Sure, the service may be slow during peak times, but that's to be expected when you have a packed house and customers in queue. The staff are always friendly and the coffee is always fresh. Locally sourced ingredients and good Northwest WA flavors. Swiss Tofu Scramble is my go-to...so delicious!
I never write reviews but this place was so great, I felt compelled to do so.....
Everything about my visit to Old Town Cafe was a 10/10. Friendly service staff, delightful laid-back community atmosphere, and of course, great food. I had the Tofu Reuben and damn was it ever great.
Seriously. This place is the bomb. Highly recommend.
Had breakfast with my parents here for their birthday weekend. Great, healthy alternatives and delicious food. The place was busy, but staff was friendly and prompt.
1st visit: Went with a friend for lunch and ordered breakfast when nothing stood out to me in the menu. The #9 was very tasty. If you want a good standby where you can't go wrong with a menu choice, this is probably one to add to your list. I was personally disappointed because when I go to a restaurant, I nearly always ask, "what are you known for?" IMHO, your time and money is best served by the restaurant's best choices. However, the waitress told me they have no special item they are known for. Rather they are a jack-of-all. Good for some people.
Love it for breakfast, also enjoy the lunch. Big portions so order smaller size if not a big eater. Everyone I have taken there loves it & their hash browns. Sometimes musicians will play on weekends. Has a small area for kids to play & fidget . Wait list for seating But sign up for the "community table" and you can often skip the wait & meet other nice people.
food was ok at best under seasoned organic ( big whoop ) service was pretty bad and rude. Tried to ask a couple simple questions and got a snotty condescending answer . I guess I might have got better service there if I wore a Che Guevara tee shirt and smelled like patchouli.
next time I go I will not take a bath for a week find a old grateful dead tee shirt put a little dab of patchouli behind my ears.
come to thing of it this place does not deserve a second chance.
This is the best place for breakfast in Bellingham. The food is usually organic, locally sourced, and always fantastic. You can eat a whole breakfast here and feel full, but not feel like you've gained 30 pounds. All the food is good and good for you. I highly recommend The Old Town Cafe.
Fun. Solid coffee. Sat at the communal table. Wait staff is on it. Next time in Bellingham and wanting breakfast, I will surely sniff out Old Town Cafe again.
Great local vibe. They offer both private tables and community tables where you can sit and get to know the people around you. They're very clear about ingredients in their food and offer lots of vegetarian and vegan options. However, they offer meat as well so don't be afraid to try it if you're not into vegetarian fair. Had the daily special which was a max and cheese with 4 different cheeses and poblano peppers. It was creamy and tasty the parsnip soup on the side made it perfect comfort lunch.
Totally disorganized, gave our table to another group without asking if they were the name on the list, waited 25 minutes to order after finally being seated. Food arrived 45-60 minutes later. There was a 15 minute delay between the first 3 plates of food and the last plate. We had all finished by the time his food arrived. Horrible service may have worked for you back when there were only a couple healthy breakfast options around town. Nowadays, I don't know how you're still in business. Never, ever again.
Old Town Cafe in Bellingham is a "social institution;" a reflection of a healthy community. Old Town folks volunteer and donate to host a community Thanksgiving Day meal that is both hearty and welcoming. Daily, the food is very good and the environment is warm. Old Town staff, please know how much you are appreciated within your community!
The food was awesome, the service a little bit standoffish. It was Mother's day and they were busy so that might be the reason. We will be going back to try again that's how good the food was.
Really good comfort brunch food. Came here around 9am on a Sunday and it happened to be a bit quiet with no wait. Large portions and tons of options to choose from for brunch. They have the classics and also sandwiches as well. Friendly service and the food was tasty!
Local, fresh and organic options. Constantly good breakfast, coffee and mimosas! My favorite breakfast spot downtown. Be prepared to wait however, its worth it.
This is a pleasant place, nice staff who understand the saving power of coffee in a steady stream. For the first time I tried a lunch menu item, salmon burger rather than eggs. It was an indifferent meal, blah frozen fish on a day old bun. I'll stick to eggs next Time.
Update I've been back several with great omlettes each time.
Vegetarian gravy and biscuits - what???!!!!! Awesome!!! The cafe offers many vegetarian and vegan items - even though it's not a vegetarian restaurant, they have a huge set of items that a vegetarian or vegan would love. We ate here two days in a row during our visit and were very happy. Highly recommended!!
It's good food (and vegan options) but they don't do to-go orders on the weekends? The only time i can get there is on the weekends and since i don't fancy waiting 20 minutes for a table in a crowded and suuuuper loud cafe I'd like to go orders. if they changed that they'd get my business back but until then i just can't go.
Excellent mainstay of old town Bellingham. Food is terrific and fresh and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Very busy on the weekends but worth the wait!
I liked historical ambiance better than food. 3 wtars for ambiance. Only 2 stars for food. My food all tasted charred. They don't have butter for toast or cooking. They cater to Vegans. If you're not, I'd go somewhere else. If you have food allergies, I'd go somewhere else. Parking also not very easy.
The Old Town Cafe is a quaint little restaurant located in Billingham. Warm and friendly breeding a pond entering the restaurant. Most enjoyable atmosphere. Wheelchair accessible as well as seating accommodations. Easily seen from Road with ample parking. The menu covers a wide range of breakfast and lunch items. Great healthy options as well as good vegetarian items. Reasonably priced for such healthy options to eat. What a great place it is to have an enjoyable lunch or breakfast at the Old Town Cafe.
My favorite breakfast restaurant on the planet! Farm to Table locally grown organic ingredients abound, cooked with care by a team that cross-trains in every role and shares tips equally, leading to excellent service and delicious meals. The occasional live music is a beautiful thing: folk guitarists and singer-songwriters can play for a meal. Local artist's work hangs on the walls available for sale.
Coffee is great and always pouring. Half order of huevos rancheros was huge! Really enjoyed the Californian omelette. Service was friendly and the restaurant clean.
awful. I was So excited to try this place out. My boyfriend and i got there, put our names on the list and sat and waited, an hour goes by and every person that had walked in and out their names on the list after us got seated before us all while there was tables wide open. We walked out and won t be returning. I wish There was a zero star rating because they sure scored that
Hands down my favorite breakfast place ever. I recently returned to Bellingham, and for the months I was away, I kept fantasizing about Old Town's biscuits with mushrooms tahini gravy, their perfectly brewed coffee that is attentively filled (keeping up with my demanding coffee addiction), and their charming atmosphere. The friendly service is just a bonus. It's easy to see why this this place is always so busy!
