The Nature Conservancy seems to me like a scam. I donated to them once after an airline sent me an email saying that I could donate for carbon offsets.
Ever since then, my mailbox has been flooded with lots of mail from them. Each mail piece has lots of paper, and once they even sent me a thick booklet. It seemed funny to me that an organization that supposedly cares about the environment uses so many resources (think: trees for paper, fuel to deliver mail, etc).
I requested via Paper Karma (which is an awesome organization, go Paper Karma!) to take me off their mailing list, and they did not. Then, I directly replied to one of NC's mailings asking to be taken off their list, and they still did not.
Then, my husband joked that NC might be a scam. I did a little research and found that they have oil company owners and the like on their board. They've also drilled oil on Nature Conservancy land. There's lots of dirt on them. Go ahead and research for yourself.

An environmental group that concentrates on actively preserving environmentally interesting and endangered locations. If you want to keep locations natural, you have to buy them or at least buy the development rights. If you want a more detailed review, you can look them up on charity navigators.

First, let me say I admire and support the work of The Nature Conservancy.
My issue with this organization has to do with allocation of funds,
I applied months ago for a position with the Ga. chapter.
I was floored when I googled the location of this chapter - downtown Atlanta.
The marble floored, gleaning high-rise location, in prime rental space, is no place for a non-profit organization that should be watching every dollar. It definitely soured my opinion of this organization and I personally don't feel my contribution should be going for over-the-top office space. UPDATE: I DID stop by 4 years ago to a gleaming quartz lobby with a conceirge. Sure don't see that in Nature now , do ya? And you took FOUR years to respond to my review. I stopped making donations to TNC after my visit. Shame on all of you.
