The Music Hall, Portsmouth, NH Review

Easy in and out driving ,,, Juston McKinney was hilarious... best comedian I have heard since Jay Leno!!

This place is beautifully restored and updated! We REALLY enjoyed the October 25th showing of The Black Pirate (1926)

The Portsmouth Music Hall is a gem in the seacoast. The building itself is fabulous- comfortable, classy, inviting. There are so many great movies, shows of all types and you can have cold drink and many great places to eat nearby.

Performances are professional. Seats are comfortable but note the obstructed views. They are truly obstructed.

Saw the performance of Postmodern Jukebox and was thrilled to be there. Swanky design!

Nice place for a date night, take in a show, or a ski movie!! Full Bar and beer service. The Atlantic Grill cups are great for bringing your beverage into the show.

It's a must see if you're anywhere close to Portsmouth, very intimate, great bar area and when you're seated you can feel the rich history. Absolute 5 star

Great venue and beats the cookie cutter movie theaters by far! Cinema Strangiato was a great show from the balcony!

A unique and defining feature that adds greatly to the community, the Music Hall is a wonderful venue to experience everything from Warren Miller film fests to symphonies and traveling performances and guest speakers. Worth the visit

Last year we saw keb mo and this is a fantastic place to see a show. Will come back again.

I remember when this place was a hole in the wall. WOW!!!!!! This place, inside and out, looks fantastic! I went to see the fiftieth anniversary of the Beatles "Yellow Submarine" , which the audience applauded the movie at the end. The lighting and decor of the interior was impressive. The theater was well maintained and not cold or hot. I sat in the upper balcony and enjoyed the view. I thought the screen was a little small for the venue. I got to talk to the projectionist. She was polite, also very pretty, and asked if I enjoyed the film. All the staff were well dressed. The men's room looked clean and maintained, but, it was crowded so I could not use it. I am looking for another show so I can visit the theater again! The street out front is now a walking area and it looks great! Update: I saw Spike Lee's Blackkklansman in October and I enjoyed the movie and experience. Friendly staff, comfortable temperature and ornate decor. I actually was able to use the men's room. It has to be the nicest lavatory in downtown Portsmouth. Just don't use the washbasin as a toilet, as I overheard one fellow say he almost did. { I guess the soap dispensers and spouts didn't give away any clues.}

Wonderful community space bringing people together for all kinds of culture in a historic theater! We re so lucky to have this place! Of course wish they had a parking lot, but that s the Portsmouth dilemma. Just leave extra time before the show to navigate capturing a spot!

Wonderful production of "Elf the musical" the set, costumes and all involved were really amazing! The Music Hall itself it a great venue, quite beautiful with a good mix of a traditional theater with a few well thought out modern updates!

Just attended a comedy show here. It was great! The bartenders were very kind and had great senses of humor. Once we entered the theater we got help finding our seats but we were told to sit in the wrong spots twice by two different people helping with seating. We figured it out on our own and found it a bit funny. Definitely not something thay would ruin the evening.

Great show in historic theatre. Legroom is challenging.

What a beautiful old venue. We saw Sarah Mclachlan solo there and Patty Griffin play there as well. It is very intimate and close no matter where you sit, but there are some sound issues in some spots so get good center seats.

Three great Christmas shows over the past three years in partnership with the Ogunquit Playhouse.

Visited occasionally to see a movie. You're not going to get comfy seats, dolby sound, or buttered popcorn, but you can't beat a dinner and a movie in downtown Portsmouth.

Really cool venue. The style/layout of the the interior was great. Watched a touring movie on the screen that came with an interactive emcee on stage. I didn't get to the balcony, but my experience on the main theater floor was great. I'd absolutely go back.

A great theater! Small enough that there are no bad seats, big enough to feel like you re in a large theater!

Cool historical theatre. Was in town with an artist performing at the theatre. Loved the room and the crew. Everything top notch. Intimate, sounds great, not a bad seat in the house. Go see shows here and experience it for yourself!

Great place to see a show whether it is music, theater, a movie or a guest speaker.

Plenty of seats, but these days they are bringing in such popular talent that it often sells out.

There is also a bar downstairs and I'm not sure why I'm including this in the review but that bathrooms are like nothing I've ever seen ... very artistic with waterfall like things.

Anyway, great place all around.

Just come see a show here and you will understand why Portsmouth is so amazing. Don't forget to leave time to get some food and drinks too, one of the best cities in new England to get fed :)

This is an amazing theater hidden away downtown. The outside doesn't look like much, but the theater itself is beautiful. It's very cozy, and it seems like there aren't really any bad seats.

Elf the musical was amazing! Beautiful venue! We can't wait to go back.

Beautiful, historic theater in which you can see movies as well as live music, comedy, authors, and occasional live theater. Check out the fancy bathrooms!

Such a gorgeous venue for live music. Love that they serve drinks in reusable tumblers which you can take home & use again and again.

Historic old theater, nicely restored and maintained.

This was a nice mid sized theater. Well technically appointed with professional production quality. While the proscenium and hall are neoclassical/ greek influenced, the lobby is an interesting hobbit's den and the bathrooms (if few for the number of seats) are fun.

I have been to a handful of musicals here. The facility is very welcoming and old school fancy with the large red curtain and intricate wood designs. The seats are the folding style with a good amount of leg room. In the balcony there is a good angle to the floor and seats are offset row to row so you have a good view wherever you are.

The show was great. Staff was super friendly. A lot of hard work went in to the planning. Job well done.

It s a cool place. The actual theatre is beautiful, but kind of cheesy social decor by the bar and bathroom.

Wild bathrooms! Mosaic, branches, stones, mirror, worth going just to see them. The auditorium is beautiful and seats are comfortable. Great show!

Unbelievable service, beautifully constructed space. I brought my son to see the play elf and even though I had trouble with my tickets the service desk employee went above and beyond for me. The ushers were very professional and the staff at the food counter were clean, professional and courteous I would certainly go again.
