Amazing place that does great work. But you won't see much.
First off any center that is open to the public for free to come and view what good work they're doing is fantastic. Please take this opportunity to make it down to the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito. It is near Great Beach so you can make a day of it bring a picnic and drinks. Please support the center by buying something from their gift shop I even love their little wooden decals for water bottles. Currently they had elephant seals harbor seals and sea lions and one fur seal on rehabilitation.
Great society. Love what they're doing to help the marine animals. Friendly staff. Animals on site looked healthy and recuperating. Adopted a seal when we were there.
Great place to go with the kids or adults (for about 45 min. to 1hr.). Not a whole lot of exhibits, but the seals and their keepers will keep you entertained. It has a nice gift shop + an open space for pictures and relaxing.
Awesome the way they rescued marine mammals anti climatic to visit tho...
That's a wonderful place to spend a free time with pleasure and good way to help the Mother Nature!!!!!!
Very cool place. Proof that privately funded enterprise is so far superior to government nonsense.
A really special place that I d consider a must do in San Francisco, especially for animal lovers. The volunteers are super friendly and knowledgeable, I d highly recommend paying the nominal fee for a tour. On both my visits I ve seen a variety of different marine mammals at the hospital. The gift shop is great and stocks some unique environmentally friendly items.
The largest marine mammals hospital in the world, with capacity for up to 300 patients - mostly elephant seals, sea lions and harbour seals. They have a very impressive volunteer program that handles the majority of the daily animal care.
I'm so happy they exist... it was a learning experience for me. Plus, the public gets to see the patients
This place is an attractive and educational museum/hospital and they have a great mission. I love the kindness and hard work of the volunteers and staff
Amazing visit with the animals and great staff. You learn stories about the individual animals and how they came to be there. Beautiful space and view too
What a great place. They are doing such great work rehabilitating animals. Great tour guides.
Great educational visit. The staff here is knowledgeable and nice. The work they do is amazing. Education and preservation.
Free to the public but they encourage donations. It's the largest seal rescue in the country and a neat place to visit if you love seals.
Pretty amazing place. Conveniently located near a nice beach.
Wonderful compassionate staff caring for injured marine mammals. Definitely a labor of love.
If you love animals then this is the place for you.. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable.. Place was very neatly maintained.. I really appreciate their kind work towards marine life.. You can also have a beautiful view of ocean from here..
Smaller than I thought but really interesting place. See if you can get a guide to make it more interesting.
Incredibly kind staff with incredible amounts of information.
If you are in Sausalito, stop by the Marine Mammal Center and support them, you can learn a lot about their work with seals, sea lions, etc. Try to visit them before they close for the day and enjoy a beautiful sunset from their facility.
It was amazing to see the work they do to save these animals. And it's so cool to see all the sea lions and seals in the hospital area getting healthy.
Amazing facility! I love how thorough their efforts are so that the animals don t grow used to and dependent on humans. The interns are very informative, I learned a lot on my hour long tour with Anna.
Fun place to take the kids. My daughter adopted a baby seal for only $30.
Conservation and education. They do such important work. It's a great place to volunteer, with such a terrific team of dedicated folks. Also a great place to being your kids and learn about marine mammals.
I came here for a science field trip I got really inspired cause I want to help animals in any way and I learned a lot
There are amazing people here and I love that this is a hospital as well as educational center
Amazing opportunity to see and hear some very young marine mammals
Completely worth to pay a visit with your children. You can walk on your own, or join an guided tour where they tell you about the guests they have. They host wounded sea lions, elephants, otters, etc. and once they are recovered are set free on the sea.
Wonderful place to visit and nice to see this amount of effort put into conservation
I have always loved and supported these fine people in their endeavors to save wildlife
With the passion of true missionaries these guys work tirelessly to help save, rehabilitate and return to the wild our beautiful marine mammals, I was amazed how they hand make there catching nets and have designed cages to help bring these animals in to help them. They seem more like a trauma and triage team. Ever creating in the moment new ways to help these guys.Hurray! thanks for all your hard work
It is a good place to go with children.
Admission is free, but they recommend a donation of $ 5 per person. Or for a little more you can take a guided tour in which they explain step by step what they do with the animals when they enter them.
Closest you'll get to the wildlife is about 20 feet to prevent stress to the animals.
I am so glad this place exists. We have been coming here ever since I was a little kid. They are one if not the largest marine mammal hospital and rescue center in the country. You can learn a lot about what the fantastic work they do and even see some of the animals they are rehabbing from the viewing area.
Amazing place that provides care for aquatic mammals. The tour was very interesting and educational.
Always a pleasure visiting the MMC, speaking with the volunteers and seeing first hand the care they provide the sea lion patients.
Hidden gem. The take rescue seals and always need donations. Very beautiful
Great opportunity to learn about marine conservation and not as chaotic as the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Friendly tour guides. Hidden gem in the Marin Headlands.
My granddaughter and I had a awesome experience! The animals were well taken care of, the staff was very nice and informative, and there was lots of things to see and learn about. The staff were loading 14 sea lions to go out to the Point Reyes ocean. It was very funny because the sea lions would try to jump over the cage. It was a very educational and fun place, especially for the kids. I would recommend trying it out!
It was great, and our tour guide Sabrina was great, learned at lot about how they saze sea mammals
A good place to take kids to learn a little about seals
I adore this place! TMMC is one of the largest marine mammal hospitals in the world. They do groundbreaking rescues, rehabilitation, research, and education about marine mammals and our oceans' health. I loved visiting so much, I became one of the over 1000 volunteers at the center. See Northern Elephant Seal pups in the spring, and summer is a great time to visit and see the California Sea Lion patients. Visit the website for patient updates, current research, and public educational program information too!
Fun for all ages. Great place to visit for out of towners, groups, and locals. The staff is well educated so you're sure to learn something on one of the tours or just by asking questions. The Center does incredible work for our oceans and animals. Highly recommend!
The men and women here do a fantastic job caring for sick and injured mammals.
A highlight of our trip to the Bay Area! So wonderful to see these animals in need being lovingly and responsibly cared for by incredibly dedicated staff and volunteers. Take the docent-led tour!
Marine Mammal rescue, hospital, and rehabilitation. Sad that they don't stay open until 5 anymore, but a great experience for kids and adults and a pretty nice gift shop. Feeding time is 2pm
The people here are so passionate. Didn't even sign up for a tour but the guy who works there answered all my questions and told me all about the work that's going on, and even the history. Reccomend it highly.
Amazing experience. Learned a ton about marine mammals and how life in the ocean affects global health. Got to see seals and sea lions recuperating at the facility, and the release of sea lions back to the wild!
Watch cute sea mammals on a hill above the ocean, for free! What more could you ask for?
I have never visited the Marine Mammal Center, I hope one day to visit on a trip to California. I am a monthly donor because I believe in the Centers work of rescuing marine life and then releasing the animals back into the wild after they are healthy enough to go. They also partner with environmental organizations to create a better future, hopefully one filled with healthy and thriving ocean life. I just saw an inspiring video of a whale being freed of fishing line. Thank you Marine Mammal Center. Paula Brungardt A friend in Littleton, Colorado
Excellent visit! We know the marine animal treatment center ... Well worth a visit, and a marine biology class.
Very informative ,and he volunteers are very nice involved.
I was so amazed when we discovered this place. Unfortunately there fire alarm went off right as we entered the building, But it was over within 20 minutes. Once we entered it was feeding time. That was by far the most engaging part of my visit. I was hoping to get a glimpse of some morgue action. Great time, great staff, very memorable.
They do amazing work here. So educational and worth the visit.
My daughter loved this place. We spent Two hours over there. I Bought a t-shirt. Kind expesive but well design.
Amazing Docents; we learned Tons about Elephant Seals, Sea Lions , Harbor Seals, Otters And conservation!. From Welcome, to Hospital Tour, to the Gift Shop we found passionate professional volunteers! Thank you!!
Just love it and the work they're doing. My grandkids never get enough of it
Very informative tour and knowing all the money goes to help feed the animals is a plus. The staff and volunteers are great!
My dad is the director at TMMC and is super passionate about what he does, that's why I look up to him
Friendly but stinky environment (PS only stenchy be of the sea lions, seals .(etc)
Fun place. Cute Sea lion babies but you can't really get close. Not that you would want to. They're pretty vicious. Either way a great place to take the kids. And it's free!!
It educational center with some coloring activities for kids.. was amazed to know there is place to treat these animals..
A great place to visit and learn about marine Mammals from the California coast. There's informational tours that educate the public on issues that effect the lives of these wonderful animals on a daily basis. The Marine mammal center also has rescue teams that go out all over the California coast rescuing sick and injured mammals.
If you can find it in your heart donate a small amount,It goes a long way to helping these animals recover and get back into the wild.
Amazing, educational, and fun, all mixed together like one of their fish smoothies. Our guide had an enthusiastic personality and attitude.
Their mission is important. The website content is engaging. They have a cool online gift shop. The center provides amazing knowledge in user friendly terms.
This place was amazing and a highlight of our trip. There is an observation deck to view all the babies they are helping rehabilitate. I wish we could get closer but a lady explained that they try to minimize human contact so they can go back into the wild without imprinting on humans. There are over 1500 volunteers that keep this place going. They take donations and this is worth a look!
The Marine Mammal Center is doing a great job of getting sick and injured sea mammals back into their natural habitat.
The staff was very nice and full of information. Definitely worth the visit!
Beautiful center for rescued marine mammals. We took the guided tour that explains the procedures for rescuing a seal, sea lions, elephant seal, otter, dolphins, whales etc. Very entertaining for kids and adults. Your contribution to the tour goes directly to the foundation. The really need the help to keep this running, fish and shelter are expensive to rehabilitate these animals. You can become a patron for as low as 5usd.
You can also "adopt / sponsor" a rescued animal and get updates on it's health and release into the wild. You can do that going to the website, at the center or by phone. That can be a great present for anyone who loves animals. They go as low as $30us and as you add more money you get a stuffed animal to represent your adoption.
If you wish you can volunteer for the center which is quite nice! They have training programs to start helping.
The gift shop is lovely, they have sustainable items, books, and other things that were quite interesting.
I highly recommend the visit. By the way, there was no cellphone reception for AT&T.
We have been here multiple times over the years... There kids love it, and we love it! We will continue to visit whenever we are in the area.
It's an awesome place you get up-close-and-personal to the animals donations are welcomed
A great organization that takes in marine animals that need care and than releases them back into the wild. The facility is set up for the care of animals with some educational displays and labels. Don t expect an Aquarium, but it is a great quick visit. It s free to park and to enter.
You can tour the faculty by yourself or pay a little for a guided tour. We did the tour, which was about an hour long. The tour discussed their mission of the center, how they rescue animals, treatments, and release. It was a worth while visit.
