Tried this place out for the first time and the food was great. The yams were nice and sweet, the mac was tasty, greens were made just how i like them, and the whiting was cooked to perfection. The only slight-negative critique that i have to add is that the lemon cake was just a bit too sweet for me. Other than that, i ll definitely be back again

The young woman at the counter was very kind, accommodating, friendly and professional. The fried chicken wings were under-seasoned, undercooked and abnormally bigger than a chicken wing should be. Over-priced...charged $15.00 for 6 chicken wings. Ate 1, tried to give them away...trashed them. I won't return.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would... Got there around 2 ordered a wing platter no wings... Ok the lunch crowd just left no biggie I said what's left? Pork ribs leg and things or breast she says... I don't eat pork so I'll take the leg and thigh... Mac and yams "oh it only comes with one side " fine whatever I'll pay extra for the yams... She proceeds to throw 3 scrawny soggy chicken drumsticks in my platter with a scoop of burned Mac and cheese now I'm pissed I take the food it's cash only so I ask her oh what about the thigh oh no thighs left she tells me AFTER she rung it up... So I see iced tea on the counter in an empty bucket not even close to being refrigerated.. how much? (Why did I even ask) $5.40 for a cup of sweet tea with an underripe piece of watermelon in it??? Kevin Parker u need to be ashamed of urself... The Mac was burned and short on cheese yams from a can with pounds of sugar to mask the can taste and soggy fried chicken... Had I not needed my parking validated I would've left it right there smh $16 for nothing
I went to the location in reading terminal today 10/10/20. I ordered the catfish and Mac also ordered wings and Mac for my daughter. Once we got home my order only had Mac with not catfish. On top of that the MAC was burnt and dry. I will never return and I will tell my 560k followers not to go to the reading terminal location.
Food is good here. And I'm kinda picky. Fried chicken is so crispy. I havent had a bad platter from here yet. And the iced tea is a lil costly but delicious!

The chicken breast and wings are HUGH... .HUGH... ...these are not chicken parts. I get your trying to give more for the money but make it an option for those who want a smaller size breast or wings. As far as taste it's ok.
So I remember this spot when it was named something else years ago. I ordered the turkey wings..greens and mac n cheese. Turkey was juicy and not at all dry..greens were also very good, but the mac n cheese was totally flavorless. Waste of calories and money. Before purchasing I asked how the mac n cheese was and was told that its one of the biggest sellers! Ummm...where? And by whom?
I have eaten here twice. Both times I have had great food. I got chicken and mac & cheese. I loved it, the chicken was moist and tasty. The deep friend battered skin was excellent. The Mac and cheese is delightful. Service can be a little slow and the cost is a little high, but then again anything in reading terminal is high. I highly recommend this plave and will eat there again.
I said once before, that this was my last time at this restaurant. Well, I have had my last meal at this restaurant. The food is not as good as it once was, but more importantly, the customer service is atrocious, and they're always out of things.. It's been that way for years. Customer service is you whole business. I don't care how good your product is, if the customer service is below average, it will affect your business negatively. . I'm surprised that Keven has allowed this to continue, if he is still the proprietor that is.

So close to a 5 star for me. I got the leg and thigh combo with mac n cheese. The skin was crispy and meat was juicy. Excellent.
The mac n cheese had a great sharp taste to it with a good crust on top. It looked like the best of the sides.
The only reason it wasn't a 5 star is because the roll was lacking something.

I'd read about this place and thought I'd give it a try since I was in the area. Reviews said fried chicken so that's what i went with. They were out of mac and cheese and everyone in the line was upset. I figured you can't go wrong with okra when it comes to soul food so I got that instead.
The chicken was pretty amazing although I'd echo the comments about quantity. 3 average size wings for $10 seems a little lacking. It was piping hot still probably 10/15 min later and the taste was very good.
The okra on the other hand was a let down. If the order has okra as the first word I expect to see a good deal of okra and instead it was more corn with some okra and tomatoes sprinkled in. The little bit of okra that was there was very tasty but definitly a little disappointed there.
As far as the staff goes. I wouldn't call it bad customer service but it definitly wasnt great either. Just average.
Lastly, this is a walk up order booth. When you pay with a card your present with a cc machine asking about tip. Why is the lowest percentage you present 17??? I'm sorry but your definitly getting into table services ranges and this is far from table service.

I had the fish platter(whiting) with greens and yams. Well the greens were under cooked. The fish was dry and full of bones. I could not enjoy it. The yams were can yams and under cooked also. For $17.00 dollars, the meal was a disappointment

The food os great, however the customer service is horrible. The young lady there was slamming things around like she was being bothered! It's her job to server the customer!
The cashier was serving and taking orders without gloves on and didn t wash her hands not once but used hand sanitizer multiple times this was such uncleanliness and I mentioned it to her and she still refused to wash her hands so the owner needs to have a deep conversation with his employees about cleanliness....
All I can say is that times REALLY have changed. Customer service is 2 thumbs DOWN. Even if the food is good, what matters the most is the attitude of the people servicing you.

I got chicken, mac and cheese, and greens. The platter only comes with one side, so I paid extra. The best part about the whole thing was the roll that comes with it. The mac and cheese was dry and tasted like they ran out of cheese and just said "oh well." The greens were mushy like spinach and tasted like spicy turkey soup. No real complaints on the chicken. The food was hot, but the sides had no seasoning besides the red peppers and smoked turkey in the greens. This was a $16 disappointment.
Got a platter from here over the weekend and it was good I will say. Had Whiting and mac and cheese, only reason I say 3 stars is because the fish had so many bones in it! spent more time taking the bones out than anything. Would have just liked to have eaten without all that work.
The meal was amazing. So Yummy. As a southerner I'm quite critical of Soul Food, but this had an authentic taste. I felt that the meal was accurately priced, however the large 32oz tea being $5 was extreme. Sweet tea is a staple, and for it to be that price as an Add On felt wrong. Came here on a Sunday while visiting from Virginia. Was excited to try out a soul food place in Philly. I got three fried chicken wings and a side of Mac and cheese for $11. There were two people working. A guy hiding in the back of the booth watching TV on his phone, and a young lady filling the orders who obviously had never heard of customer service. She was short with all the customers and seemed annoyed. To make it worse, the food was awful. The Mac and cheese was burnt and dry as heck. Can't believe she had the nerve to serve that to me. They would be better off making it from a box of Kraft. The chicken had a vinagar taste to it. Yuck. Next time I'll just go to KFC. Couldn't take a picture cause I threw it in the trash.

Ive always had a good experience here. The fried chicken is so tasty and crispy! just wish there were larger portions of sides but their food is always good. Never had an issue with customer service either.

The only reason I'm giving this place three stars is because of the lovely cashier, who was very sweet. I'd been wanting to try this place for a while so I decided come hell or high water, I'd wait as long as it took. It took a VERY long time. And i asked for the greens to be put in a separate container. They were not. Instead of saying anything I just took my food and left. The food was great, I had three chicken wings, mac & cheese and the collard greens. i enjoyed everything but now that I've had it, its not worth the wait. I won't be back.
It's sad seeing all the other stalls with long lines running a well oiled machine and cranking out food quickly. My husband got his cheese steak in about 10 minutes and the line to get them was very long. Why can't the soul food place get it together?

Chicken wasn't fried hard enough, so much so that they were hard to even break apart. Mac was dry with all the noodles completely separate, dry and without cheese to make it stick together. Yams were the only good part about this meal, and I only got four. The roll needs to be replaced with a corn muffin or corn bread, it was very dry and they don't even give you butter for it. Also who serves a full southern menu without corn bread? Skip this place, I have heard people rant and rave but their taste buds must be dull, because certainly you can find a better meal for $15-20 at the terminal.
this place is the bomb! nothing bad to say at all, always fresh and good, employees are always nice and food is always on point. If i had to chose one bad thing to say it would be they don't wear hair nets. but everyone i recommended this place too love it just as much!

This place is worth a stopover for lunch or dinner but you have to get there before 4 pm so you don't miss out on all the goodies!!!

Amazing chicken...and not many can cook collards greens like my grandma, but there's is almost as good. I highly recommend there food.
The name Kevin Parker is synonym with good soul food in Philadelphia HOWEVER the customer service at the establishment is poor. The staff are unfriendly and quite frankly lazy. Staff can be seen loafing around on their cell phones while tables are dirty and piled with trash leaving no place for the customers to sit and eat their delicious meal. I simply and politely asked one of the staff to clean off a table for me and she rolled her eyes at me! I just don t understand I really don t get it!! This is your JOB and while the place doesn t bear your name it tarnishes the image of Mr. Parker and reflects poorly on our city. I m don t feel comfortable taking out of guests their for fear it will spoil their encounter with Philly. Y all need to address this!
I try to support black owned businesses. My first experience here was okay a year ago. At that time, the food was okay. I expected more based upon the Food Network spotlight, but I was wrong. At the time, I ordered the fried chicken, seasoned greens and macaroni and cheese. I had the tea with the watermelon slice as the drink. The drink was actually. Upon completion of the meal, I went to place the trash in the trash can at the restaurant and was yelled at by a female worker telling me to take it out and mind you I had just purchased meals for myself and my family. After she decided to be rude and crude and demand I remove the trash from the trash can, I decided not to purchase another drink from them and spent my money elsewhere.
Fast forward to today, I decided to give them a try again. Oops...what a mistake that was. Today, which is a Sunday, they decided to only accept cash today. We weren't the only family that complained about this so-called Sunday policy. My understanding is that they pay the Sunday workers cash and need cash from the customers rather than debit card or credit cards. Great job Keven! While you may have gotten sales from some, you lost sales from many. Sounds a little shady that you don't want people on the payroll and paying them under the table. You shouldn't make your customers suffer. Not to worry, I took my hard earned money to Manyunk where it was appreciated. I won't be back and I will be sure to tell people to skip Keven Parker's when going to Reading Terminal Market.
I use to break my neck to get down here for lunch but lately it just been horrible. The yams had piles of sugar on them. I LITERALLY Bit in to multiple rocks of sugar. The Mac and cheese was dry, the cheese was not melted and the fish was dried out.
I go on my lunch break, and each time I am disappointed. Yesterday I went at 12 noon and was told they didn't have anymore fish, they had one piece of catfish left.... each platter comes with two pieces. The time prior to that they didn't have any mac and cheese. However, you don't find out they don't have anymore food until you get to the register. I wasted 30 minutes of my hour long lunch break in line, just to not get any food. They make it so hard to support black businesses, they need a better system smh.

I was third in line at 10:58 am (the cashier starts taking orders at 11 am). At exactly 11:06 they had already sold out both chicken and waffles and wings. Both items are listed on the menu, but neither was available that early. Clearly, they didn t care to make them.
And to make things worse, the cashier s attitude is terrible. She acted as if we were lucky to be there.
Terrible place. Food Network obviously doesn t know this place any better or else it would pull their name off the banner.
I have been waiting for years to come here but the line was always too long... today the line was super short but the person at the register took forever and spoke so low that i couldn t hear nothing she was saying. She was friendly (only reason why I m giving two stars)just moved really slow. They need to have two people up front one person taking orders and the other person scooping the stuff up into the containers. I asked for the wing entree BUT got served what i think were thighs they were so itty bitty tiny just full of fried skin. The Mac and cheese has these soggy noodles with NO seasoning. They had no condiments to put on the chicken. I don t know why people waiting in line for that. You re better off going outside to crown chicken at least you won t be paying a arm and leg for chicken pieces and one side because only one side comes with an entree. Oh and don t get me started on that overpriced Lipton powder sugar water they calling famous tea, i just can t. Shame on you with that nasty mess i threw half my food out

Valentines Day ,I thought I would treat My wife to lunch since we both work close, an hour for lunch seemed doable. After waiting in line for 15 mins, We're told they were out of Just about everything we wanted, Without a notice ahead of time. and not a apology to be had anywhere, customer service was really lacking at this place, Like None whatsoever. So I ended up paying $20.25 for 3 chicken wing, which were really good, A scoop of Mac and Cheese, Which again, Really good, and a scoop of green beans, again, really good. If you do go, The food is ...Yup, really good. Just don't expect any kind of customer service, and ask if they have what you want before waiting in line for a long time.
I purchased a turkey wings,rice,blackeye peas today 8/8 2020 came to$12.96 I purchased the SAME thing around 8/3/2020 cost $10.80 today's meal the peas are just too SALTY . PLEASE stop with all that salt.!
If I could give you zero stars I would have. My First time here and what a disappointment. Where do I start : the Mac and cheese was bland no kind of Soul in it.. But it looked good. The okra corn & tomato was not fully cooked tomatoes where still whole and okra where a lil tough. And omg the string beans where soooo salty .. A waste of my money .. I will not ever return to this place.

Spoke very highly about this establishment. But after today's service I want to take it all back. It's only been about a month and a half since I've last went here. It was all new face today and I guess with new faces come new attitudes. I arrived at this establishment an hour after they opened and the was already out of fish ( tilapia Whiting and catfish) but since I took septa to get there I choose to get the chicken away. While standing in line I notice the menu was different and asked the young lady about the menu change she had seem to be very bothered. My sister and I ordered 5 two sides platters totalling up to $80. And some change. Bad enough the young lady shook the spoon as if we was at a church event she didn't add our second side to 2 of our platters (thank goodness we checked before leaving). We asked about the sizes of our platters and again with an attitude she states " we change the portion size (but the must have did it right before we ordered because the man right in front of us platter was made the way we would usually get it). Got home to eat and the mac wasn't done the yams taste like the from the can and the chicken was fried extra extra EXTRA crispy.
Stood in line for 30 minutes to be told that both items I wanted to order were no longer available today. Shouldn't you have a sign that alerts customers to that? Then, when the very nice female cashier goes to announce that they are out of catfish, the gentleman cooking stops her and says, nope. Just keep going. Really?! I mean courtesy goes a long way. My husband loved his chicken wing platter & greengbeans. And, the iced tea was amazing! Thank God for small favors! Communication is key along with customer service skills. The female cashier was very nice!!!
We catch the train into Jefferson station frequently to visit Reading terminal. I have learned to carry extra recyclable bags because I always bring home a couple of dinners from Kevin Parker's to treat my parents and for myself. His sweet potatoes are the best ever. My favs are the sweet potatoes, chicken wings and Turkey wings (w/o bbq sauce). Sometimes I just get sides: sweet potatoes, greens and cabbage.
It is January 2019 and I have to say that if the customer service was terrible then it got a little better I don't think it's good but it's definitely not bad. The food was really good the only thing is it looked like there was no love put into the Mac and cheese which was pretty disappointing aesthetically speaking. The taste of everything was excellent however
The food was dry and old tasting. The customer service was horrible. My husband will never go back on the weekend again. They need to retrain weekend employees on CS and how weekday food is cooked.
This place lured me in with amazing aromas and it did not disappoint. Chicken was moist and tender. There's quite a queue but it's worth your time!
