The Information Technology department at Clayton S...

The Information Technology department at Clayton State University is very negative towards their students. The only thing this department wants is money, nothing else. The department doesn t care if their students are successful. A former CSU IT instructor informed me that most students don t complete their IT bachelor s degree at this college because the department likes to hold their students back. Professor Ken Nguyen is an IT instructor at this college who likes to discriminate and belittle minority students. He lectures only to his white students and ignores his minority students like they don t exist. I find it very disappointing that a large amount of students have to withdraw from his classes every semester because he doesn't want to teach them. He only wants to bolster his ego by showing how little the students know and how much he knows instead of trying to make sure the students learn the material. He doesn't give the student's any hope of success in his classes. He is part of the reason why this department is not doing well at the moment.

Worst admissions team/Bursars office I have ever dealt with. No one will take responsibility for aiding students in the process of getting documents turned in, and relevant holds removed in order to register. I wish the school cared more about helping students succeed. Your college education is an investment, so think carefully about where you choose to make this investment. If the faculty are not invested in helping you receive a top-notch education, then I'd say: "keep shopping."

Run...Do Not Trf here. Nobody knows what their doing in the Financial Aid Office (which is grossly mismanaged and understaffed), Academic Advisors or even the Interim Departments. They all give out wrong information and you'll be taking more courses after you enroll vs. what they tell you over the phone or even at orientation. Believe me, Run!

I'm just trying to get info on upcoming microsoft classes. The lady answering the phones in continuing education was so short & nasty with her answers. She was NOT helpful nor was she trying to be. I called the main number & reached a much more friendly voice but she could not give me any info. She told me I would have to call continuing education dept. Even though I was giving a date the class would start, online it says no upcoming dates found.

The admission process was absolutely horrific. Everytime I went in to hand in documents I was given different information. Ultimately I was denied admission because of my 7 year old college transcript gpa. I did not want to attend school as a tranfer, I wanted to start fresh. They gladly took my money for the whole process though. A total waste of time. I know that I would be much happier attending school elsewhere.

The psychology department is great most of the teachers will work with you the disability services are helpful food on campus sucks though I do not suggest getting a meal plan lots of crime around campus the new dorms are nice they make freshmen stay on campus because they are still paying them off even though most people who go here live close. They made my brother check in even though he hd just the day before had his appendix out he went there because he decided last min not to go to the citadel or vmi because he was going to be a military physicist he instead went here transferred then finished as uga with a degree from uga he got a great high paying job in the field of physics I have enjoyed the psychology department most of the teachers are fun and interactive the classes most of them are easy to understand there the hub for technical support are decent they provide free software and tech support but it is different from west ga they wont give you disks you have to go there to install software and you cant leave your computer there to be repaired. All around it has been helpful for me and I have enjoyed my experience as far as I can see there isn t a club that looks like a bunch of fun nerds lime me except for the anime club and I lost my interest in anime after high school I am not big on school pride I never have been and I don't follow sports so I never know how our teams are doing im sure people have a great time at the game most people on camus seem pretty animated. I will say that allot of people on campus are my age nd a few people are older I am 28 btw but I thnk there is a youthful population there are a lot of people who have kids so if they can work with that kid of schedule then that is good

I have never experienced such a horrible Financial Aid process. I m a distant learner and rely on communication from this school. But no one is available to answer the phone or respond to emails. Even the Director and assistant Directors will not respond. Very unprofessional!

Horrible staff. Bursar s office staff seem uneducated and improperly trained. Every time i have tried to get help from Clayton State staff they treat you as if you re annoying them. Bursars office staff wasn t knowledgeable refused to answer the phone and call back. Once they answer the phone (after calling 5 days straight trying to get someone to pick up) it sounds like they are very miserable and can t wait to go take a lunch break. They treat students like we re bothering them. This school used to be a great school from what I heard now it seems like the staff have turned it into a lesser version of Dekalb Tech.

I can't wait to graduate and i will advocate to make sure nobody I care about goes to this school. Nobody should have to deal with unprofessional rude uneducated staff all the time that never have any answers and always have a condescending attitude.

I entered Clayton State as a Freshman in 2014, graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Human Services in 2019. I am now completing my Masters Degree in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. I have had more positive experiences here than negative ones. The negative experiences I had were minute. Because my negative experiences were minute, I will list those first.

CONS:
- I had an issue with a professor in my undergrad about an assignment I completed that I received a 0 for, and when I attempted to make a meeting with the Dean of Psychology, she canceled the meeting and my issue was never resolved. I received a C in the course, which hurt my GPA. (I am not upset at the professor, since the issue was I didn t follow 1 instruction she gave, my issue was with the Dean canceling the appt.)
- The University Health Services employees are burnt out. They are understaffed, and due to that, they are not that friendly and can take a while to get stuff turned in on time. (However, i stayed on top of it consistently and I was able to get the issue taken care of before the deadline)
- Other employees at the school are not friendly, but that could be due to issues completely unrelated to the school itself.
- Food in the cafeteria is not great.

Now on to the great experiences!

PROS:
- The professors in my department are WONDERFUL. I cannot stress how awesome the professors are here. I have gone through a lot in the past few years, and one professor specifically (Dr. Mark Daddona), really helped me through it. As a single mom it was hard, but they have always been very understanding and flexible with me. If they had a Doctorate program, I would take them for that too!
- The students are great. Yes, you have some that are not really here for learning, but the ones that are here to learn are great.
- The janitorial staff is amazing. They have always been kind to me, and they do their job very well! The school has always been kept clean, especially the bathrooms.
- Everyone is pretty responsive. I cannot seem to remember there being a time where I went days without a response from someone in any of the departments or buildings.

If I can remember anything else, I will add it in the future. The professors really care about what they re doing, and it shows. The classes may not be easy and the rules may be strict, but since this is a college, that should be expected. Bottom line, I have had nothing but great experiences. If someone were to ask me for a recommendation, I would let them know to consider Clayton State University!

The administration here is absolutely despicable!!! I toured here for the first time today and was promised free lunch at the beginning of the tour but by the end the same tour guide who offered lunch said She was just kidding and we would have to pay for lunch which by the way wasn't worth it because it was absolutely mediocre! Please stay away from this place !

School is clean, safe, and the classes are challenging with lots of options.

Psychology and Music sections are huge and world-class. I'm in the computer science program, and the department is awesome, filled with dedicated professors and lots of hands-on coursework.

Only downside I know of? Parking is a pain to find.

A side note: I've heard complaints about the majority minority population and my response is, seriously people? Don't you know the demographics of Clayton County? All minority/ majority black. It's only natural the college population would reflect this. Most of us live near the campus.

Clayton State is a very good university. I can't speak for every college degree program, but the college of business does a very good job preparing students for what they will face in the real world. The school is very organized, and takes no time to register online. Advisers were very helpful, approachable, and knowledgeable. The Hub is very helpful with tech support for your laptops, plus you get all of Microsoft Office software installed on your computer through them. Catch a virus on your laptop and the Hub will help you take care of it (it's all included in your tuition). The accounting curriculum is set up to give you the necessary classes to sit for the CPA exam. Clayton State has so much potential and seems to be growing. There's still a few things it can approve on to truly give that University Campus feel, but that will take money that the school may not have right now. I was very satisfied with my experience.

I would choose Clayton State over paying an outrageous tuition at any online college.

Overall the University was nice. The grounds were kept and the dorms were clean. There was constant patrols by campus police which did make me feel a little better about my oldest daughter attending this institute of higher learning.

A portion of the staff here at CSU are some the friendliest and most helpful people, like one of the ladies who works in dining at Chilaca, who has helped me every time there was an error with my dining plan. The other portion of the staff, may not even read your emails, such as my advisor, who is simply not doing her job. Im deeply disappointed that I am going to have to go here for a full semester now. I would not recommend CSU to anyone, especially freshman students trying to get a smooth start in college. This review is posted with deep regret and concern for possible future students. Search elsewhere for your college experience, ignore the amenities!

Man I've been trying to get back into this school for 5-6 years now, finally had my debts out of default and then they got me good, I am still trying to get back in because once you owe this school money, you can't go anywhere else until all of your debts are paid.

Why bother buying a parking pass? the incompetent security will give you parking tickets even with the pass located exactly where it s supposed to be put in the back windshield. Then expect you to appeal It instead of just look up your parking pass like any normal institution.

terrible staff, cant answer questions, been a nightmare trying to enroll here, had to take worthless math classes you pay $1000 then money to take a final exam? professors aren't that great. Only been here for 1 semester and already looking to transfer,

This school is trash. Advising sucks, nobody knows what they're doing. Their nursing department sucks. They don't give you the right information and will make you waste your time and money. I don't recommend this school.

The school is an alright place. Great environment. You have to study hard if you want to succeed at this school. There are several professors I would not recommend.Help you financially until you get your refund. (if you receive one) Book money for book store that sells items that would be convienent to you.Expensive so watch out and choose carefully when considering this school.

The school is exceptionally boring.

The school is exceptionally boring.

The best things about this school is the college of business which includes accounting, supply chain management, business management, finances etc. That department has some great professors especially in the supply chain area. NOT ALL of them are good.

I have stayed in Clayton Station which is now known as Laker Village and the apartments aren't bad although you can hear people having sex which is quite annoying if you're a light sleeper like me.

But other than that it's unsafe for students. They have been robbed, sexually assaulted, and shootings have happened. Back in November 2015 a young man was shot on campus in the Clayton station apartments......that young man died. I really think campus police are letting things like this happen to keep their jobs.

Pros:Nice gym
some professors really care
lakes on campus
Campus is pretty clean in appearance
Cafeteria food is okay.

Cons:No football team
No track
no stadium
lots of older people
school is not well-known.
You might get shot.
Parking is terrible during the spring and fall.
Train runs through campus and wakes you up at night.
FRATS WITH NO FRAT HOUSES.
It's in Clayton county.
Too expensive! You might as well go to Georgia state for what you're paying here and you will probably have a lot more fun.

The Information Technology degree program sucks! The school is so small that some classes are offered only once a year. During the summer some WebBSIT classes aren't offered because enough people don't register the year before. I registered for a WebBSIT class and got taken out of it which set me back. It was highly infuriating. Also I had a group project in a class and failed it because my group did not do anything which I thought was very inconsiderate of the professor. Please do not pick IT or Computer Science as a major here. Read the other review about the IT program and you will see what I am talking about. PLEASE DO NOT BECOME A VICTIM OF THIS SCHOOL!

MY ADVISOR PUT ME IN A CLASS TO HELP ME OUT. THAT CLASS WAS 1 I NEEDED TO GRADUATE. BUT I GOT TAKEN OUT OF IT BECAUSE I ASKED THE CHAIR OF CIMS ABOUT AN INTERNSHIP. AND SINCE I DID NOT HAVE THE PREREQUSITES HE TOOK ME OUT. BUT YET I HAVE BEEN IN CLASSES I DID NOT MET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR. THIS MEANS SOMEBODY DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. DO NOT DO THE CIMS PROGRAM.

Please go through all of my pictures I posted until you get to the ones posted under Clayton State University.

Another thing DON'T do a degree in INTEGRATIVE STUDIES. I had to change my major after being taken out of that class because I did not want to wait until 2017 to graduate . And it hurt so bad after telling ppl that I was going to walk the stage in December 2015. I stopped going to church because I was SO EMBARRASSED. Family & friends kept asking me "when are you going to graduate & you must be going to get your MASTERS" It is a setup for failure. I wrote this extravagantly long review because I would hate for what happened to me happen to prospective students.

When you graduate there are a limit on the number of tickets. So if you want a lot ppl in your family to come to your graduation you need to have 4 or 5 in mind. The graduation will likely take place in the schools gym.

Lastly, the housing department does not genuinely care about students. They look at students as cash cows & even tried to force me to pay them extra money which is also in the pic I included for this review. But I WASN'T HAVING IT. How are you going to charge students for housing that they are already in when the semester has already started?

Also they let the basketball players do whatever the hell want little to no consequences. I had to spend a semester with them it was awful. And this is because the basketball team is ALL THEY HAVE.

Please stay away from this school!

Update 2018: I'm glad the person who held that position step down or got demoted. Nobody deserves what I went through.

Thanks for the likes. I'm really happy that this helping people. YOU'RE WELCOME!

The location is great its near everything , great vibes and all. The Housing department is unorganized because they give different information each time you call and ask about something. They also don't update the housing website so you might miss something important if you are not persistent with them. Financial aid is also lacking in communication with the students when it comes to their financial status. I personally registered for classes based on a reward letter they sent then 2 days before the deadline for financial things to be situated they told me the award letter I made decisions on wasn't updated. So I had to sit out a semester because they sent me the wrong award letter . Each department should just be on top of their game because this is the most horrific experience in my life.

Had two good teachers, 1 alright teacher and atleast 3 terrible teachers. Ran into dissagreements on somethings with two of my teacher who had opinions on certain grades and k was treated as i was not important and it felt as if they do not care about there success in there students. The superiors cared more about offendeding the personal (the other professor) rather than actually addressing actual issues. I feel as if your paying for an education you should be treated as such not treated like another number. With me being a 8 year VETERAN of the Marine Corps i worked really hard to get my GI bill and i will not have it wasted on below adverage professors who expect you to learn everything on your own rather then instruct and point you in the right direction ultimately being a mentor. If it wasnt for my beginners math class professor and my pysch proffessor i would be giving this place a one star. I am going to all online schools for fall semesters then transferring to a better college for spring.

I have been here since 2012 and plan to graduate in December 2016. I have a good GPA and I am a non-traditional student. My experience here has been a good one. As long as you are proactive with your financial aid and do your work, things go smoothly. Most people who complain on campus have bad grades, rarely show up for class, and are usually bitter because they are irresponsible.

The location of the campus is less than desirable, especially if you are a native Clayton County resident who fled to avoid the area, BUT the campus is beautiful and in a convenient location for people in Metro-Atlanta. The demographic is interesting with people from all over Georgia, different ages, and different backgrounds...that keeps the classes and viewpoints interesting. The crime rate around campus is something of concern and the parking is crap but the professors, scenic campus, and degree options make Clayton State a good choice, in my opinion.

IF YOU ARE A FRESHMEN DO NOT STAY ON CAMPUS !! i know most freshmen want to leave and be gone from their parents but when i say i have disliked staying on campus because of the noise and ALL THE ANTS.. ive never had such an ant problem in my life and the school will have pest control come but they use some of the cheapest stuff because the ants stay gone for a few days but come right back, other than that the school is an OK school. i am a current freshmen at the school.

Phlebotomy Tech Certificate-Continuing Education-8...

Phlebotomy Tech Certificate-Continuing Education-8 week accelerated class
As far as the class it was GREAT. Dawn Cook, instructor, was very knowledgeable of the subject matter. She was always positive and when a student was having difficulties she was very patient. Dawn went the extra mile to make sure all students had everything they needed to be successful in completing the class with confidence. Class would receive and A+.
The Continuing Education office that was in charge of the program not so impressive. They didn't seem to be very organized. The students in the class were told to find locations they (the student) would be able to do their externships. As far as I am concerned the office should have the locations already setup. Now if a student would like to do their externship some location special then they (the student) should let the CE office know. We as students should know where we will be doing our externships by the time the class ended. This is not the case. There were students that completed the class 9/2013 that still had not done their externship or even had any information as to when they were scheduled. A CPR certificate is required. It is part of the classroom experience, the school did give us this CPR class BUT it was the wrong class. Healthcare field requires that the CPR Certificate needs to be from the American Heart Association, the school gave the course from American Red Cross. Red Cross works for the externship but to get a job you must have it from the AHA. So the student will need to find a class on their own and pay extra for the AHA Cert.
Would I take another class? Of course I would.

I am a graduate student and I LOVE CSU! I graduated with my undergrad degree from CAU, and although it's not Clark Atlanta I have enjoyed my time at Clayton State. Great prices, Great location, and great education. Yes, I haven't experienced housing and other undergrad activities, but my experience has been great. I am looking forward to Spring 2017.

Clayton State does not even deserve one star from me. This school is ALL about taking your money and inconveniencing you at any cost just to get it. From the police officers that leave annoying citations on your car (parking decals are included in tuition. Even if you dont own a vehicle you pay for a decal, so WHAT are you patrolling for??) to the financial aid department that will randomly place holds on your account during the first week of classes so that your whole schedule will be dropped and you will incur a $100 registration fee due to their poor time management skills with your trusted documents. My financial aid for the Spring had been finalized and processed 6 MONTHS prior to first week of classes. Suddenly, on the first week, Clayton State decides to put a hold on my account asking for transcripts from years ago. I submit them personally, and they tell me it takes 3-5 business days just to run them through a scanner. Consequently, I owe $5,847 in full within the next 24 hours or I will be forced to put my career on hold until May. Absolutely ridiculous. Do NOT give this school your money. They have no sense of urgency or compassion for their students to succeed expectations.
