The staff were friendly and prompt. We had a table of 7 with a very poorly elderly lady. We had the carvery which was cooked to perfection both beef and turkey. All vegetables were cooked to perfection and nicely presented.

We ordered pudding after our main meal - how we managed to fit it in I don't know. It was busy but mum was getting very tired I asked the staff if pudding could be prompt because of mum. And hey presto it was with us.

I really can't wait to eat here again.

Pretty much what you would expect from a carvery.

Pretty much what you would expect from a carvery.
Good points:
catered well for young children
attentive pleasant staff
Our waitress was exceptional
Bad points:
Not all the meats on the menu were there
I wasn't aware that the veggie option had to be ordered and only found out when I went to get my food

Only one real ale on and that was refunded as end of barrel.
Going to ditch their hand pumps for "smooth flowed and chilled" John Smith's.
Well won't be visiting here again.
Got 2 stars as apologetic as beer had gone off.

Maybe it was just a one off bad night!

Maybe it was just a one off bad night!
The score would be lower but the staff were very friendly and apologetic - they made amends with a free drink (Pity I was driving)

On arrival - there was no alcohol free beer - so the designated driver had coffee (a Latte) - it was very frothy - more like cappuccino- and watery - gin was not tasty and the gin drinker switched to Lager- Guinness (drunk by someone who likes Guinness) was poor enough that he switched to lager

The Hop House 13 lager was good :-)

We three all ordered vegetarian curry - with a side of naan bread / samosas / vegetarian pakora and onion bajee

The rice with the curry was cold

Worst was that the vegetarian sides were like chicken nuggets - and we couldn t actually identify anything other than the naan bread - we tried a pub quiz identification, but no one could find a samosa or identify anything except the naan bread

The chef did come out and apologise - apparently he opened the wrong packet
But we couldn t really tell what the sides left over were - so they were all left on the side

The restaurant didn t charge for the 3 meals

Btw the toilets were a bit dirty and there didn t seem to be any soap in the dispensers

No more Carvery!

No more Carvery!

The pub is completely run down and urgently needs a refresh. There were about 6 people in total in the place at 7pm when we were there, no noise or atmosphere just the staff chatting behind the bar.

We decided to try the new menu and sampled a few nice sounding / looking items but don't be fooled by the new menu. The quality is poor, the rump steak was like leather and the Mac and cheese was like one of those pasta in a cup with boiling water things. Yuck. My wife liked that though haha!

Sorry but we have no reason to come back anymore. Seems the chain is phasing out the carvery completely :-(

Staff we pretty nice, barman/manager was a typical bar staff person, very fitting for the job. I had the carvery there and the turkey was lovely, the veg was ok, could of been a better selection, but what was there was cooked well and not mushy! The misses had a medium steak, that turn out to be well done woth sweet potato fries, both of which i would be cautious of. We both had starters and both we very nice and tasty. Overall, i would visit again, wasn't the best but i wpild be comfortable saying a solid ok!

Just came back from crown point. My wife and I had a roast dinner. She had beef, it was probably the worst beef I have ever tasted. It was very rare and so stringy with fat. The gravy is a dark brown sludge with no taste. The veg was good More

New owners and it's gone badly downhill.

New owners and it's gone badly downhill.

Used to be a place with warm staff. Who were eager to make sure you had a good experience.
But the new owners have taken all the charm the place had and after giving them the benefit of the doubt. I tried again amd it was worse.
Rude. Booked table wasn't ready amd neither did they care.
Sent back countless bits of tableware as they were dirty.
Staff too busy talking to friends that came by to see them than actually help customers

Very poor. Avoid.

Very poor carvery and rude aggressive manager,. Veg non-existant but the pint of Proper Job was excellent. I have always had a good carvery here but this is the first time it has been awful. Such a shame.

Stopped in here when passing and wasn't sure what to expect. What we found was a nice pub with friendly staff. Massive outside area/beer garden and plenty of parking. Menu was varied and had a good offering of traditional pub food.

Like recent reviewers have said, Crown Point used to be very good. But now it looks and feels tired and dirty (eg holes in carpet, sticky worn tables) and the quality of the food has equally suffered. On our last visit some of the vegetables looked dried and reheated and my wife had to ask for a different portion of meat after receiving a dry and brittle end piece of pork. Also the cloth a staff member was using to move around food dishes looked stained and dirty. Sadly this has completely put us off going back and now we prefer making a longer journey to a competing carvery. If the current owners are prepared to spend some money on refurbishing Crown Point and upping their food and hygiene standards, we'll happily come back. We really miss the convenience of eating there.

We have been to Crown Point many times and it's carvery was one of the best around.
We went today 14/1/18 and it was very disappointing.
Only fresh veg was cauliflower- Potatoes weren't roasted, they were greasy and probably grilled to colour them.
I don't think, sweet corn, peas, frozen diced swede and beans is acceptable for carvery.
No stuffing, no carrots or cabbage.
Won't be going back there on a Sunday

I have never done this before. This was the worst meal i have ever eaten. We had a two year old with us so needed to eat after having waited. The chips were luke warm and slimy. The peas were tepid, the scampi was ok. Do no go there.

I was taken here for a pre-hen party dinner by my friend who lives locally. Bit difficult to spot and possibly easy to speed past it, but once in there was plenty of parking.

I've been informed that service can be slow during busy times, but on a Saturday evening we had no issue at all.

The meats were moist and well cooked and we got plenty. The veggies and gravy were also tasty and cooked to perfection. They were very accommodating to the Celiac sufferers in our party too.

Whilst I was stuffed, I felt that I just had to try the pudding and went for the Bakewell Tart ice cream cake - it's to die for!

Overall a very good experience. I just wish I lived closer!

Crown Point? Nil Point. Staff are pleasant enough but the service was appalling, the carvery veg were dried up and unappealing, and the carvery meat choice was turkey, turkey or turkey. Toilets were disgusting. Won't visit again.

Note: I'm not one to complain. This is a reserved review. This place used to be a family favourite.
It's gone down hill.

Food so bad we couldn't eat it and left hungry.
Don't eat here - go somewhere else. Anywhere else.

What has happened to this place.....friendly hardworking staff but no where near enough to cope. W0 minutes to get a drink. 3 hours for a three course meal at a lunchtime. Extremely average meat on the carvery and overcooked cold vegetables. Such a shame this place has be ruined by incompetent management

Have just waited two hours to get our festive meal. And when we queued for the carvery found they were running out of meet so our servings were rationed, now I've just heard they have run out of everything. This is a joke. I just want to go home and skip the dessert. Definitely could not recommend this place to eat

This place has gone down hill a lot since we first started coming here last year. The menu was 3 times the size, it was quieter, cleaner, and generally nicer than it is now. Also used to be able to get service at the tables...

These days, it always seems extremely understaffed, and because of that, there's always loads of people waiting for tables. And there are dirty tables and pots everywhere. When we went last week, we had to eat in the 'lounge' area because it was so busy, and none of the tables had been cleared. When we went today, we decided to book in advance, so we got a table, but it hadn't been cleaned, and we didn't have any cutlery. If you want any sort of service, you have to go up and wait at the bar for ages.
When we went to get the carvery, the yorkshires were all soggy, and the stuffing looked like vomit! We had to wait ages to get someone to get us cutlery when we sat back down as well, so when we started eating, the food had started cooling. As well as this, while we were eating, it was so difficult to have a conversation, and we were having to shout across the table to each other! For dessert, we had to share an oversized piece of chocolate cake, which felt and tasted like it was about 3 months old!

The food, the service, the cleanliness, and the organisation of this place is just horrible. We won't be going any more.
