Tilki-rockin good time. Deliciously stiff rum drinks. Ample visuals, and I don t just mean the beautiful people, although they re nice, too. Enjoy a pleasant interruption from your alcohol-fueled conversation with what might be easiest to describe as a periodic special effects eruption ...

An amazing place for a night out with friends! The atmosphere and decor here are amazing. The drinks are delicious, I didn't have any of the food but the food I saw looked very good. The seating both inside and on the patio was comfortable and warm.

Wow! What a great experience. Went with a group and rented out the back room. The atmosphere is so much Polynesian fun and the server could not have been more fun or more attentive the food was great and well received by everyone. Overall the experience fat exceeded our expectations. Do yourself a favor and stop in

Alex, the bartender, was a doll. He chatted us up while making drinks which is always nice. Decorations are quintessential tiki with added holiday decorations for this time of year. Drinks were amazing.

Could have been a nice experience because the bar is nice
With a chill tiki atmosphere but unfortunately staff was terrible and busy hiding instead of paying attention to customers and I think the worst was the receipt with a 3% surcharge for inflation if price of product
I ve never seen that people and I am still not fully recovered as today by this terrible scam
It s not about the amount it s he sneaky way they had non state taxes to a bill instead of changing there price

Very fun place, with Asian fusion food and typically-inspired drinks; the entrance is really fun, too. During the day it's an *awesome* poke counter (Good Time Poke), with super fresh fish.

This place is a must see! Very cool speakeasy style Hawaiian themed bar. I love their garnishing and the amazing drinks. Very strong alcohol content though. Their service is "ok"....if they had more bartenders and they were more talkative/attentive then my thought is they would do better. They have bartenders that have friends that come in and take over their bar...and time.
But very good! Food is ok....a little bit out of the norm. Very pricey.

I had the most amazing time at the Grass Skirt! I had no idea that it was a speakeasy when I made the reservation but I am so glad it is! I love speakeasy's and this is one of the best ones I have been to. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and polite. And there was no surprise that the food and drinks were delicious. I drank the "we owe it all to the guava" cocktail and let me tell you this is one of the best cocktails I have ever had. I love fruity cocktail and this was the perfect blend of guava, pineapple, and pomegranate. I am so excited to go back to the Grass Skirt and I am definitely going to try the punch bowl with my friends.

The only and BEST speakeasy in Pacific Beach. Most speakeasies are tight on space, but The Grass Skirt has plenty of room to offer for a casual date to a night out with girlfriends. I like to call this spot one of my hidden gems in the area since it s a short walk off of the boardwalk scene so unless you re a local you most likely wouldn t come across this little slice of paradise! I m excited to see they ve been adding more weekend entertainment from live DJs, magicians, and themed events! They re truly dedicated to their craft of specializing in Asian fusion cuisine and rum cocktails. There s truly no place like this in Pacific Beach and if you haven t been yet you re in for a treat, especially during the holiday season when they do their Sippin Santa themed menus and decor!

Drinks are amazing! Punch bowls are strong and large... the ambience is wonderful and loving, and warm! Food menu looked extensive, and amazing but kitchen was closed. will visit again and update this review for food. Aku Aku Lapu was better than the Scorpion Bowl

This place is a must see if you are a tiki fan or you want something out of the extraordinary. The drinks are great, the place is very fun, the ambiance/decor is very nicely put together with taste. The food too is tasty! It is not over priced although it is a themed speak easy. It defienetly is a great to have a first date, a themed party or whatever floats your boat!

Wow! Lets just say I'm a huge fan of speakeasy's. Who doesn't love them? Its like being a child again, finding the ultimate secret hideout. When you first arrive, there is a little bit of a confusion as to where the entrance is. This was my first time here and prior to coming in I knew nothing about the Grass Skirt other than it being a tiki lounge. Another bystander pointed me out to a nearby poke shop. This can't be the entrance I thought. Oh, but it was. I entered the establishment and was greeted by the kind staff. Reservations are highly recommnded by the way, especially if you come in on a weekend. Anyways, the staff leads you to the kitchen where they open up what you think is a big metal fridge door. No, it's the entrance to the lounge. When that door swung open I was in complete awe. The place is fully decked out with Christmas decorations. It was absolutely stunning.

Now, on to what we ordered. For drinks, we got the Kris Kringle Colada, Sippin' Santa and Boozin' Susan's World Famous Chi Chi. All drinks were good but if you're looking to get a little tipsy, Boozin' Susan's is the way to go. The drink is dangerous, meaning it tastes so good that you dont even realize there's alcohol in it. For food we ordered the Tenderbelly Rice Bowl, the Spicy Tuna Tostada and the Grass Skirt Bao Buns with pork belly, peanuts, cilantro, cucumber, gochuang and hoisin sauce. Ya'll! These bao buns were amazing! Our whole group loved them so much that we ordered a second round. I am officially adding the Grass Skirt as one of my top lounges to visit in San Diego.

Been coming here at least once a month for the last year and I've always enjoyed my experience. Drinks are fantastic, vibe is really cool, and it's fun whether you're coming for Tuesday trivia, date night, or just a Saturday night out. I definitely recommend making reservations if you want a table, the place can fill up quickly.

Yes. Everything about this place. Prepare to drop a fat stack, and enjoy every second of it. Go with a group, share plates, order every cocktail on the menu. Get the pig mac, the rice bowl, and indulge yourself.

This hidden restaurant/bar is always a wonderful experience! Thematic food and drinks are complemented by seasonal decoration and great vibes. Would recommend for a group of friends, company events and dates. Sometimes I go there only for the bento box dessert. Yes! It s that good!

The reservation service says they have outside seating, they do not.
Now I'm a big man and I understand that I get warm faster, but having your inside fireplace on full blast in a crowded bar on a september night is just asking for heat stroke.
Wait staff clearly didn't want me and my group there cause we weren't a party of bridesmaids, and looked mad that they had to let us in cause we had a reservation.

Atmosphere was great. Service was incredibly poor- each meal came out separate like 10 minutes apart - the comment was we are busy...very poor excuses
The place has a lot of appeal but the menu is okay - a better place to enjoy cocktails and go elsewhere for food .. the waiters really have lots to learn about dealing with customers.

It took my husband and I three tries to find the entrance to this place, which is via the poke place next door (and a walk-in freezer door). All we wanted were some tiki drinks and a chill vibe. While the drinks were delicious, the vibe was not chill. And the whole having to hunt down the entrance was annoying. I'm too old for that drama. If you like trendy and random secret entrances, enjoy. I'll be relaxing in a quieter place.

Overly priced sugary cocktails with little alcohol and not much beverage. My two drinks were all ice. I got through the mai tai in a few sips. The decor and atmosphere is cool. But i can't see myself coming here twice or recommending this place to anyone.

One of my favorite bars in SD. Great drink, a little pricey but worth it. They could certainly have better food options but it's great that food is available. After a few of these drinks, you might need a bite.

Never even heard of this place until tonight but what a cool spot! A bit pricey but nothing untolerable. I had two Mai Tai's and they were really good. Great atmosphere though. The food was good. The drunken noodles were a bit bland (still good), but the Dan Dan noodles were bomb! Definitely get the Dan Dan noodles. But really cool theme and a place to check out. Memo was our bartender and did a great job.

The grass skirt is a cool speak easy. You go through a stainless steele refrigerator door and walk into the island themed bar/restaurant. There is a giant tiki statue in the middle of the courtyard. At times, the whole restaurant would go into some sort of theatrical mode with the change of music and video focus at the bar. Even the tiki statue's eyes would light up in colors.

For drinks, we ordered the Chi Chi, Tiki Iniki, Jilligan's Island and a Guava cocktail which were all really good and beautifully presented. They have not updated their website based on the cocktail menu we saw and we weren't expecting to see the guava cocktail and Jilligan's Island listed.

We decided to order their special of the day which is a self cook steak platter because our server explained that it was a lot of food to share among our party of four. The platter came with a tiny grill flame and a few cut up pieces of raw steak (to cook over the grill), potatoes and a scoop of rice. We were so disappointed because there was no way that it could fill up four people.

Luckily, we ended the evening with the Half Baked Chocolate Bento which was the perfect last bite.

Overall, the decor was nice and I would come back for the drinks.

This is a little pricey but worth every penny. From the volcanic eruptions to the battleship of drinks, this place is terrific. The staff is wonderful and the experience of walking thru the meat locker into another world is mind blowing!

Six stars. Secret entrance. Inside, they put the awesome in ambiance and the delicious in cocktails. Definitely try the Lava and Ice and/or the ChiChi. The bar tenders were friendly, skilled, and fast. Fabian, the bar back struck up a conversation with us and was very nice. He did an exceptional job.

Love this place. It s right there but so well hidden. Fantastic job on set up, decor, and lay out of place. The poke entrance had my teens boys faked out. Fun drinks and eclectic menu. Really friendly staff and is the poke place the kitchen staff?
Definitely be back.

This place is so fun. You enter through a fridge door from the poke shop. We ended up there on New Years and they played the most random set list I have ever experienced. Many of the drinks come en fuego.

This place was awesome. I wasn t sure where my boss had planned to take us for dinner but he did great!

First off, you enter through the poke bar next door by checking in fir your reservation. Highly recommend making reservations! You are escorted through the freezer door! Yes, I said the freezer door! You walk through a dark rock caved hall to enter the restaurant. It s very dark, lava lamps, tiki lamps, very cool atmosphere.

Happy hour is from 5-6, long enough for 2 mai tai s!

Started with Brussel sprouts for an appetizer.

For dinner we ordered drunken noodles with shrimp (super yummy) ramen and fried chicken.

We even got to see the main entertainment; the volcano. It s random so we got lucky

Great family location until about 9pm but I hear it s hopping after 10pm!

Highly recommend this place and will return.

Very cool atmosphere. And the food was delightfully, surprisingly delicious. As the evening wears on, specialty drinks are ordered and the entire place is filled with sounds and lights. Great fun, great food

Was truly looking forward to trying it. You need a "reservation" to enter. Just an FYI... door is in Poke place next door. Just the guy who works the door made the initial entry negative. If you make the drive to PB don't expect to have fun here.... boring!!!

I've been to the grass skirt quite few times. I prefer to go during the less busy times because it can get a bit rowdy. I love their music and the atmosphere. Their cocktails though pricey are always amazing. A girlfriend shared apps for the first time and were happy with what we ordered. The brussel sprouts were my favorite. Overall great spot in the beach for a more upscale experience.

The Grass Skirt makes a good attempt at being a great tiki bar. The menu of fruity umbrella and flaming drinks is impressive, and the entrance through a "cooler" door is brilliant. But the atmosphere lacks the grass but feel necessary for success. The music track isn't consistent with the tiki theme and the space is a bit tight. Overall, a good place for a few drinks.
