This place won't disappoint. It's beautiful and quaint - the staff are exceptional - right there in London so your able to walk around a lot on foot. Beautiful atmosphere will stay here again when I return to London.

Fantastic place for lunch, fantastic place for dinner, fantastic place for London. They are having the bar decorated at the moment at the goring and the waiting service prior to lunch has gone missing. We would previously have been sitting in the bar waiting for the sommelier to take out wine order and food order but now that seems to have disappeared, perhaps it is just a phase while the bar is refurbished. Apart from this one complaint from our visit in March the food was out of this world as always and the service was 7 star incredible.

"Delightful" is the only word to describe afternoon tea at The Goring. Friendly and accommodating staff serving a delectable selection of finger sandwiches, scones, and sweets along with an incredible selection of traditionally brewed teas served from silver tea pots.

It would be difficult to a imagine a lovelier, more relaxing afternoon. Highly recommended.

We came here for an afternoon and it was the best afternoon tea one can ever have! Amazing service and our plates of sandwiches/scones/cakes kept on coming, plus they have a lot of variety (vegetarian/vegan). Lovely decoration and amazing history behind those sheeps =) which is part of their branding.

We had the most magical experience here. What started out as a birthday treat ended up as an engagement surprise. The staff were incredible all the way through from when we arrived till when we left. We had drinks by the fire, afternoon tea (highly recommended) and celebratory drinks in our room which had been done up for us. Service was not only good, but incredibly slick making it an effortlessly enjoyable experience going above and beyond which was incredible. I m looking forward to coming back for many more anniversary celebrations in future.

We just spent one night at this hotel during our stay in London. It is a beautiful, comfortable hotel with a lot of charm. Too bad the decoration is a bit faded, in this case in some common areas. It is also very expensive, hence the only night spent there.

Beautiful hotel. Heard the Tea Service was good so we booked for four. Lovely spot, but the service was absolutely terrible. Cannot figure out why, but when we ordered more sandwiches it took 45-50 minutes. Possibly the folks next to us got our sandwiches, but who knows. IT TOOK FOREVER and the kicker was they added gratuity. Nice hotel. I'd look elsewhere for an impressive tea service. Too bad really.

The Goring has a lovely, shady back garden which makes it ideal for families. The high tea is overpriced for the quality, but the location and ambiance make stopping in here for an afternoon's respite quite delightful. Skip the $70USD Afternoon Tea service and just get a pot of tea and a couple of sandwiches.

I visited for afternoon tea.
I definitely wanted to eat authentic afternoon tea

Enjoy the famous Goring afternoon tea
I made a reservation in advance

Two people share one afternoon tea.
So it was just the right volume

The sandwiches, cakes and scones were delicious and
After all the service is excellent.

As Oscar Wilde said, "I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best. The Goring Hotel is just that, simply the best. The staff anticipates my needs and offers superior service. If I don't have what I need for a delightful stay, all I have to do is ask. The facility is fine and the bed comfortable. The location is excellent too. The hotel is a few steps away from the Victoria tube stop. It is close to the major tourist stops, yet off the beaten path enough to avoid the crowds. When my travels bring me back to London, I will definitely stay at The Goring Hotel.

Well, the restaurant /dining room here is quite highly rated. But the main attraction for me is the nice dining room. The food, while good, is not memorable.
Went twice in the past two months. Last time I was there, I ordered grilled dover sole. The quality of the fish, while adequate, was not as tasty as I have come to expecy of a dover sole. It was served with a weird yellow sauce which I can't recall but do remember it overpowered the fish. So I requested some beurre Noisette, which after a lot of fuss, was declined.

To have a meal at the Dining Room is a fantastic experience. Excellent food, exemplary service and wonderful ambience. Unlike the Ritz, there s no nagging dress code here and certainly none of the stuffiness as well.

I am writing this review on behalf of my parents who stayed at the Goring while visiting my husband and I in London. I also was at the Goring quite a bit during their stay, and we were all very disappointed.

It was their anniversary trip, and they booked the hotel through American Express Fine Hotels. We have stayed in many American Express Fine Hotels before, and it seemed as though the goring was simply, lacking.

Traditionally, with a booking through Fine Hotels, AMEX provides early check-in (if available), as well as a room upgrade (if available), in addition to breakfast. Upon checking in, they found out neither an upgrade or early check-in was available. Which was fine, such is life. However, when it came to check-in...we were told to "be their guest, go out and about London, and return by 3 and the room should be available". Upon returning, the room was STILL not available at 3 o'clock. Disappointing at best. Finally, once the room was available, my parents had to wait for their luggage and for keys to be sorted. At this point, being international travelers and arriving early in the morning - all they wanted to do was simply go into their room and take a nap. Instead, they had to sit in their room for quite a bit of time - and wait further for everything to get sorted.

Breakfast was disappointing. No where on their website does it state breakfast included is continental. In London where a dozen of eggs costs 2-3 GBP, to not include eggs with breakfast - is absurd. Especially at a 5 star hotel with this reputation. If other 5 star properties in London can do it, so can the Goring. That'll be a 6 GBP charge for an egg if you want it. At the end of the day, what's 6 GBP? But, still. it's the thought. It doesn't take much work to make eggs. Breakfast was the worst service I've experienced. Oatmeal came out before tea and drinks. If you wanted a spoon with your oatmeal, you had to ask for it. Toast? Be sure to ask for butter. Oh, and jam, ask for that too. Also, ask for more coffee - - and dont't forget to ask for a napkin. (Sadly, this wasn't exaggerating). Breakfast the following day, in the main dining room was much improved. The room they stayed in was very nice. It was small but beautifully decorated. Hallway carpeting was being dug up in the corner, exposing floorboards. The hotel does need some TLC. Toilets under the bar in the evening have a bit of a hard time flushing and bathroom downstairs needed some TLC (wet hand towels about etc). Step father was woken up at 4 in the morning from bottles being dumped into the garbage truck. I'll cut it off there. But in sum, I would not recommend this hotel to other guests staying in London. There are far better experiences, at similar properties available. Perhaps they were having a few off days.

My boyfriend bought me here for my birthday and it was the most special night of my life. The food was unlike anything else I've ever experienced and service was impeccable. He also mentioned to them it was my birthday and could they do anything speicial so they bought out cake free of charge as a gift!!! Staff were also so patient as we sat, opened gifts, talked and took photos.

I am absolutely disgusted with The Goring Hotel. I called yesterday to advise I would be unable to attend afternoon tea today due to heavy snow and an extremely painful attack of heartburn (I am heavily pregnant). I was told to call back this morning to speak with the afternoon tea manager, who "may be able to waive the 48 hour cancellation policy" and henceforth I called back at 9am this morning as requested.

On speaking with Emma, I was politely told that as an exception she could rebook me for a future date. Unfortunately with two children, a full time job and the approaching arrival of baby number 3 it's not always possible to commit to a date without having arranged school pick up, nursery collection, annual leave, or when indeed I might go into labour.

I fully appreciate that when I booked I accepted the 48 hour cancellation policy and merrily handed over my card details in good faith. However what I have been left with is a sour taste in my mouth (to add to the burning acid in my chest). I will grudgingly attend afternoon tea at the Goring Hotel since I have paid for it, but I will never recommend it to another soul, in fact I will actively discourage anyone I speak to from booking anything with them in the future, and I talk to a lot of people. Bad business Goring Hotel, very bad business.

A lovely London spot for afternoon tea. I visited in the run up to Christmas, so our pastries were all Christmassy themed, including a meringue snowman. The service is impeccable, (as is to be expected) and whilst it is expensive, it's still acceptable for a special treat. Keep an eye out for the extra bonus courses!

Goring Afternoon Tea is perfection. Staff was friendly, prompt and took care of everything before I needed to ask. The Bollinger rose was a lovely match with strawberries. Scones were cooked just right. The cheese sandwich was my favorite. Each pastry was more delicious than the next. The macaron had a baby macaron!

I have enjoyed an afternoon tea at The Goring and it is one of the better places for afternoon tea. Delicious food served by courteous, smiley waiters in sumptuous surroundings. What more could a gal ask for? :)

Not for the faint of budget!
This place was recommended to me as a nice place to grab a bite to eat. Nice should have been replaced with the word expensive. The walk there was nice, especially through the small neighborhood immediately East of the hotel - hidden from main roads.

Everything in the hotel is great, the environment is quiet and very British. The hotel staff are very friendly, not arrogant at all, and are always willing to provide all help. Here, you can experience the feeling of customer first, and you will feel like a part of this big family. Our room is not big, but it is beautifully decorated.
