Venison burger ($19) was juicy and spicy and quite big.
Truffle fries ($11) with side of aioli were delicious. The fries are not super thick; standard.
Clam chowder soup was spicy and just alright.
They don't have poutine anymore
The mussels alone at this place deserves a Michelin star. The scotch egg is tremendous. Their old fashionds are phenomenal. I love versions 1 and 3. This restaurant is a can't miss. NY strip is prepared better than most steak houses we have been to. The service, absolute top notch. Best of all ,you can bring your 1 year old. They have booths on one side of the restaurant, where you will be able to easily entertain your toddler while you have a 5 star meal. Thank you all very much for what has been two fantastic dining experiences, and hopefully many more to come! but truly, the mussels, even if you went to Barcelona you won't find better!
My husband & I (& dog, Ryder) were recommended this restaurant on our recent trip to Chicago when we asked for a place close to our hotel in the Loop. We had flown in that afternoon (Ryder s first flight) & we wanted a place that was in an area that was walkable, close to sites we could visit & had an outdoor patio where Ryder would be welcomed. The Gage did not disappoint! The atmosphere was friendly, across the street from the Millennium Park & the food was delicious! I had fish & chips & my husband the burger- both so, so good! We are kind of picky b/c we cook & eat at home most of the time since it s hard to find good American fare that s well made with good ingredients. Great place to eat & relax! We will return on our next Chicago visit!
We went with a group of seven at 6p on a Thursday. The restaurant was busy but not crowded. The host kindly accommodated our preference for a different table and our waitress was outstanding. The food was excellent. For appetizers, we ordered crab cakes, fried pickles, buffalo cauliflower, and brussels sprouts. Of these the cauliflower was my favorite, though all were excellent. Our table ordered lamb shank, salmon, halibut, and the burger. Everyone was happy with their meal.
All smiles from this friendly wait staff (under masks, of course). My party selected one of each of the fish entrees, and all were delicious. The buffalo cauliflower side dish was the star, though. Excellent experience for my first post-lockdown restaurant experience. I'm definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu.
Went here with a group and we had great service and great food. Price is up there but worth it if you can afford it! The venison Burger, steak, soup, and everything in between was delicious. And we were even greeted by the owner to make sure things were going well. When I visit Chicago again I would eat here again for sure!
The Gage has a very long European style bar and a welcoming cozy restaurant. It has very large booths for a comfortable feel. Leading into a more private area which is enclosed with beautiful black French pane doors is another area to enjoy dinner. Outside dinning is another option where you can enjoy the delicious food and drinks. A must place to eat and drink.
I can honestly say this was a fantastic experience. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the lovely bartender! He took time with us. Will be back again.
Bathrooms are downstairs but they do have an elevator so that's a plus.
We ve eaten here several times and had a great experience each time. The burgers are great, the fries are great, and the chicken sandwich is wonderful. Whether you re coming from brunch or dinner, I highly recommend. For brunch, the Bloody Mary AND bloody Cesar are both delicious and the patio is covered so makes outdoor dining super pleasant. Definitely recommend for a group as there s so much to choose from and we haven t had a bad thing here yet!
Beautiful bar inside. We sat outside under the canopy and enjoyed a wedge salad, corn chowder (outstanding), and a decent burger. Service was top notch. Very attentive without being overbearing. It was recommended to me, and I recommend it to you.
